REMOVAL

  3. DISCONNECT CABLE FROM NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL CAUTION: Wait at least 90 seconds after disconnecting the cable from the negative (-) battery terminal to prevent airbag and seat belt pretensioner activation. NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See «INITIALIZATION»(ref-290683-S20539755842008071700000) ).

  18. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN COVER Remove the 2 screws. Disengage the 2 claws to remove the lower steering column cover. Disengage the claw to remove the upper steering column cover.
  19. REMOVE TURN SIGNAL SWITCH ASSEMBLY WITH SPIRAL CABLE SUB-ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connectors from the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly. Using pliers, grip the claws of the clip and remove the turn signal switch assembly with spiral cable sub-assembly.
  20. REMOVE NO. 1 AIR DUCT SUB-ASSEMBLY Disengage the 2 claws and remove the No. 1 air duct sub-assembly.
  21. SEPARATE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY Loosen the bolt. Remove the bolt and slide the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly. NOTE: Do not separate the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly from the power steering link assembly. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly and the power steering link assembly. Separate the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly from the power steering link assembly.
  22. REMOVE STEERING COLUMN ASSEMBLY Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly. HINT: As shown below, turn the lock lever to disconnect the connector. Disconnect the connector from the power steering ECU assembly. Disconnect the connectors and disengage the wire harness clamps from the steering column assembly. Remove the bolt, 2 nuts, and the steering column assembly.
  23. REMOVE STEERING INTERMEDIATE SHAFT SUB-ASSEMBLY Remove the bolt. Put matchmarks on the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly and the steering column assembly. Remove the steering intermediate shaft sub-assembly from the steering column assembly.

  6. REMOVE STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Remove the steering wheel assembly set nut. Put matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and the steering main shaft. Disconnect the connectors from the spiral cable. Using SST, remove the steering wheel assembly. SST 09950-50013 (09951-05010, 09952-05010, 09953-05020, 09954-05021) NOTE: Apply a small amount of grease to the threads and tip of SST (09953-05020) before use.

  1. REMOVE CRUISE CONTROL MAIN SWITCH (See «REMOVAL»(ref-290715-S16216082262008071700000) )
  2. REMOVE STEERING PAD SWITCH ASSEMBLY (w/ Steering Pad Switch) (See «REMOVAL»(ref-290716-S24923424592008071700000) )
  3. REMOVE NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL ORNAMENT (w/o Steering Pad Switch) Remove the screw. Disengage the 2 pins to remove the No. 2 steering wheel ornament from the steering wheel spoke sub-assembly.
  4. REMOVE NO. 1 STEERING WHEEL ORNAMENT (w/o Steering Pad Switch) HINT: Perform the same procedure as for the No. 2 steering wheel ornament.
  5. REMOVE LOWER STEERING WHEEL BOSS COVER Remove the 2 screws. Disengage the 4 claws to remove the lower steering wheel boss cover from the steering wheel spoke sub-assembly.
  6. REMOVE STEERING PAD ATTACHING SCREW Remove the 2 steering pad attaching screws from the lower steering wheel boss cover.

INSTALLATION

  1. POSITION FRONT WHEELS STRAIGHT AHEAD
  2. ADJUST SPIRAL CABLE (See «INSTALLATION»(ref-290707-S13983356112008071700000) )
  3. INSTALL STEERING WHEEL ASSEMBLY Align the matchmarks on the steering wheel assembly and steering main shaft. Install the steering wheel assembly set nut. Torque: 50 N*m (510 kgf*cm, 37 ft.*lbf) Connect the connectors to the spiral cable sub-assembly.
  4. INSTALL STEERING PAD (See «INSTALLATION»(ref-290707-S42253112992008071700000) )
  5. INSTALL LOWER NO. 3 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See «INSTALLATION»(ref-290707-S42253112992008071700000) )
  6. INSTALL LOWER NO. 2 STEERING WHEEL COVER (See «INSTALLATION»(ref-290707-S42253112992008071700000) )
  7. INSPECT STEERING WHEEL CENTER POINT
  8. CONNECT CABLE TO NEGATIVE BATTERY TERMINAL NOTE: When disconnecting the cable, some systems need to be initialized after the cable is reconnected (See «INITIALIZATION»(ref-290683-S20539755842008071700000) ).
  9. INSPECT STEERING PAD (See «INSTALLATION»(ref-290707-S42253112992008071700000) )
