CONFIRMATION DRIVING PATTERN
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation). Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-425888-S21843066702011101200000) .
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Wait 5 seconds.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
- Read the pending DTCs. HINT: If a pending DTC is output, the system is malfunctioning. If a pending DTC is not output, perform the following procedure.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Utility / All Readiness.
- Input the DTC: P0010.
- Check the DTC judgment result. - PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (OPERATE CAMSHAFT TIMING OIL CONTROL VALVE ASSEMBLY) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine. Turn the Techstream on. Turn the A/C switch to ON. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank 1). Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake camshaft) using the Techstream. Result Techstream Operation Specified Condition 0% Normal engine speed 100% Engine idles roughly or stalls HINT: If the result is not acceptable, cool the engine and perform the Active Test again. Start the engine when the engine coolant temperature is 30°C (86°F) or less. Turn the Techstream on. Turn the A/C switch to ON. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the VVT Linear (Bank 1). Check the engine speed while operating the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly (for intake camshaft) using the Techstream with the engine coolant temperature is 50°C (122°F) or less. If the difference between the target and actual camshaft timing is greater than the specified value, the ECM operates the VVT actuator (camshaft timing oil control valve assembly) for 10 seconds by applying and releasing oil pressure.
Then, the ECM monitors the camshaft timing change for 10 seconds.

- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation). Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-425888-S21843066702011101200000) .
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature reaches 75°C (167°F) or higher [B].
- Drive the vehicle at approximately 37 mph (60 km/h) for 10 minutes or more [C]. WARNING: When performing the confirmation driving pattern, obey all speed limits and traffic laws.
- Idle the engine for 3 minutes or more [D].
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes [E].

- The intake air temperature sensor, mounted in the mass air flow meter, monitors the intake air temperature. The intake air temperature sensor has a built-in thermistor with a resistance that varies according to the temperature of the intake air. When the intake air temperature becomes low, the resistance of the thermistor increases. When the temperature becomes high, the resistance drops. These variations in resistance are transmitted to the ECM as voltage changes see scheme 1
- The intake air temperature sensor is powered by a 5 V supply from the THA terminal of the ECM, via resistor R which is located inside the ECM.
- Resistor R and the intake air temperature sensor are connected in series. When the resistance value of the intake air temperature sensor changes, according to changes in the intake air temperature, the voltage at terminal THA also varies. Based on this signal, the ECM increases the fuel injection volume when the engine is cold to improve driveability. HINT: When any of DTCs P0112 and P0113 are set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. During fail-safe mode, the intake air temperature is estimated to be 20°C (68°F) by the ECM. Fail-safe mode continues until a pass condition is detected.

FAIL-SAFE
When any of these DTCs, as well as other DTCs relating to electronic throttle control system malfunctions, are set, the ECM enters fail-safe mode. During fail-safe mode, the ECM cuts the current to the throttle actuator, and the throttle valve is returned to a 5.5° throttle angle by the return spring. The ECM then adjusts the engine output by controlling the fuel injection (intermittent fuel-cut) and ignition timing, in accordance with the accelerator pedal angle, to allow the vehicle to continue at a minimal speed. If the accelerator pedal is depressed firmly and gently, the vehicle can be driven slowly.
Fail-safe mode continues until a pass condition is detected, and the ignition switch is then turned off.

- Stop the engine and allow it to soak.
- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Data List / All Data / Coolant Temp and Intake Air.
- Check that "Coolant Temp" is 56°C (133°F) or less and "Intake Air" is between 0 and 35°C (32 and 95°F).
- Set the heater to MAX HOT with fresh air mode selected and turn the A/C off.
- Start the engine and drive the vehicle at 50 mph (80 km/h) for 15 minutes [B]. HINT: Data can be captured relatively easily by using the snapshot function in the Data List. Enter the following menus: Data List / Function / Snap-shot configuration / Record time / 5 min. Data capture can be started by using the target point function. For example, setting the target point to an engine speed of 4000 RPM and then racing the engine, etc. to raise the engine speed to a speed of 4000 RPM or more will cause data capture to start.
- After "Coolant Temp" stabilizes, check that "Coolant Temp" is 75°C (167°F) or higher [C]. HINT: If "Coolant Temp" is below 75°C (167°F) while driving the vehicle at 50 mph (80 km/h), inspect the cooling system and thermostat.

- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.

- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on [A].
- Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher with all the accessories switched off [B].

When the engine misfires, high concentrations of hydrocarbons (HC) enter the exhaust gas. High HC concentration levels can cause an increase in exhaust emission levels. Extremely high concentrations of HC can also cause increases in the three-way catalytic converter temperature, which may cause damage to the three-way catalytic converter. To prevent this increase in emissions and to limit the possibility of thermal damage, the ECM monitors the misfire rate. When the temperature of the three-way catalytic converter reaches the point of thermal degradation, the ECM blinks the MIL. To monitor misfires, the ECM uses both the Camshaft Position (CMP) sensor and the Crankshaft Position (CKP) sensor. The camshaft position sensor is used to identify any misfiring cylinders and the crankshaft position sensor is used to measure variations in the crankshaft rotation speed. Misfires are counted when the crankshaft rotation speed variations exceed predetermined thresholds. If the misfire count exceeds the threshold levels, and could cause emission control system performance deterioration, the ECM illuminates the MIL and sets a DTC.

- Connect the Techstream to the DLC3.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON.
- Turn the Techstream on.
- Clear the DTCs (even if no DTCs are stored, perform the clear DTC operation). Refer to «DTC CHECK / CLEAR»(ref-425888-S21843066702011101200000) .
- Turn the ignition switch off and wait for at least 30 seconds.
- Turn the ignition switch to ON and turn the Techstream on.
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Monitor / Current Monitor.
- Check that Catalyst Efficiency / Current is Incomplete.
- Start the engine and warm it up until the engine coolant temperature is 75°C (167°F) or higher [A].
- Drive the vehicle at approximately 37 mph (60 km/h) for 10 minutes or more [B]. HINT: Drive the vehicle while keeping the engine load as constant as possible. The monitor item will change to Complete as the catalyst efficiency monitor operates [C].
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
- Check if any DTCs (pending DTCs) are stored. HINT: If the monitor does not change to Complete and no pending DTCs are stored, perform the following procedure.
- Drive the vehicle at a speed between 47 and 63 mph (75 and 100 km/h) for 10 minutes or more [D]. HINT: Drive the vehicle while keeping the engine load as constant as possible. The monitor item will change to Complete as the catalyst efficiency monitor operates [E].
- Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes.
- Check if any DTCs (pending DTCs) are stored.
- CHECK ANY OTHER DTCS OUTPUT (IN ADDITION TO DTC P0420) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Trouble Codes. Read the DTCs. - PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM (CONTROL THE INJECTION VOLUME FOR A/F SENSOR) Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Start the engine and warm it up. Turn the Techstream on. Run the engine at an engine speed of 2500 RPM for approximately 90 seconds. Enter the following menus: Powertrain / Engine and ECT / Active Test / Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor / Data List / All Data / AFS Voltage B1S1 and O2S B1S2. Perform the Active Test operation with the engine in an idling condition (press the RIGHT or LEFT button to change the fuel injection volume). Monitor the voltage outputs of the air fuel ratio sensor and heated oxygen sensor (AFS Voltage B1S1 and O2S B1S2) displayed on the Techstream. HINT: The Control the Injection Volume for A/F Sensor operation lowers the fuel injection volume by 12.5% or increases the injection volume by 25%. Each sensor reacts in accordance with increases and decreases in the fuel injection volume. The air fuel ratio sensor has an output delay of a few seconds and the heated oxygen sensor has a maximum output delay of approximately 20 seconds. If there is almost no response from the air fuel ratio sensor, a malfunction of the air fuel ratio sensor is suspected.
