SYSTEM DESCRIPTION

  1. ILLUMINATED ENTRY SYSTEM The illuminated entry system provides convenience when getting in or out of the vehicle at night. This function is controlled by the main body ECU. The operation and condition of this control are described below.
OperationCondition
Fade inWhen any of the following conditions is met, the personal light*1, room light and engine switch illumination*2 fade in. A key enters any actuation area around the doors when the ignition switch is off and all doors are closed*2. Any door is opened. Any door is unlocked when the ignition switch is off and all doors are closed*4. Ignition switch is turned from ACC to off when all doors are closed.
Fade out immediatelyWhen either of the following conditions is met, the personal light*1, room light and engine switch illumination*2 fade out. Ignition switch is turned from off to ACC or ON when all doors are closed. All doors are locked when the ignition switch is off*4.
Illuminate for approximately 15 seconds, and then fade outAll doors are closed when the ignition switch is off.
Fade out (Battery saving control)When all of the following conditions are met, the main body ECU turns off the lights. A key is not inserted in the ignition key cylinder*3. A key is not in the actuation area*2. There is no change in the condition of the doors for 20 minutes. When any of the following conditions is met, the count of the battery save times will be cleared. A key is inserted in the ignition key cylinder*3. A key is in the actuation area*2. Any of the doors is opened.

OperationCondition
Fade inWhen any of the following conditions is met, the personal light*1, room light and engine switch illumination*2 fade in.   1. READ VALUE USING TECHSTREAM Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Data List. Read the display on the Techstream.   2. INSPECT DOOR COURTESY SWITCH Inspect the front door courtesy switch (See «INSPECTION»(ref-338661-S42521082512009082800000) ), rear door courtesy switch (See «INSPECTION»(ref-338661-S19744515692009082800000) ), or luggage compartment door courtesy switch (See «INSPECTION»(ref-338661-S39245969812009082800000) ). OK: Door courtesy switches are normal. NG: REPLACE DOOR COURTESY SWITCH OK: Go to next step
  3. CHECK HARNESS AND CONNECTOR (INSTRUMENT PANEL JUNCTION BLOCK - SWITCH) Disconnect the E50*1 or E61*2 main body ECU connector. Disconnect the 2A and 2E instrument panel junction block connectors. Disconnect the L18 door lock assembly connector. Disconnect each door courtesy switch connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below. The main body ECU controls the personal light*1 and room light according to the door courtesy switch, door lock position switch, and ignition switch conditions.

  1. Light control switch is in TAIL position.

  1. PERFORM ACTIVE TEST USING TECHSTREAM Connect the Techstream to the DLC3. Turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the Techstream on. Enter the following menus: Body Electrical / Main Body / Active Test. Check the operation. Main Body (Main Body ECU) ACTIVE TEST REFERENCE Tester Display Test Part Control Range Diagnostic Note Indicator for Lighting Engine switch illumination (All doors are closed) ON/OFF - OK: Engine switch illumination comes on. NG: Go to step 2 OK: PROCEED TO NEXT CIRCUIT INSPECTION SHOWN IN PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE (See «PROBLEM SYMPTOMS TABLE»(ref-338661-S10111302792009082800000) )
  2. INSPECT ENGINE SWITCH Remove the engine switch. Connect a (+) lead from the battery to terminal 11 and a (-) lead to terminal 4 or 5. Check that the illumination comes on. OK: Engine switch illumination comes on. NG: REPLACE ENGINE SWITCH OK: Go to next step
  3. CHECK HARNESS OR CONNECTOR (ENGINE SWITCH - MAIN BODY ECU AND BODY GROUND) Disconnect the E51 main body ECU connector. Disconnect the E38 engine switch connector. Measure the resistance according to the value(s) in the table below.

  1. REMOVE MAP LIGHT ASSEMBLY (w/o Sliding Roof) Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 clips. Disconnect the connector and remove the map light assembly.
  2. REMOVE MAP LIGHT ASSEMBLY (w/ Sliding Roof) Using a moulding remover, disengage the 4 clips. Disconnect the connector and remove the map light assembly.
  3. REMOVE MAP LIGHT BULB (w/o Sliding Roof) Turn the 2 map light bulbs and the 2 map light sockets in the direction indicated by the arrow and remove them as a unit. Remove the 2 map light bulbs from the 2 map light sockets.
  4. REMOVE MAP LIGHT BULB (w/ Sliding Roof) Turn the 2 map light bulbs and the 2 map light sockets in the direction indicated by the arrow and remove them as a unit. Remove the 2 map light bulbs from the 2 map light sockets.

  1. INSPECT MAP LIGHT ASSEMBLY (w/o Sliding Roof) Connect a positive (+) lead from the battery to terminal 1 and a negative (-) lead to terminal 2. Check that the personal lights come on.   1. INSTALL MAP LIGHT BULB (w/o Sliding Roof) Install the 2 map light bulbs to the 2 map light sockets. Turn the 2 map light bulbs and the 2 map light sockets in the direction indicated by the arrow and install them as a unit.
  2. INSTALL MAP LIGHT BULB (w/ Sliding Roof) Install the 2 map light bulbs to the 2 map light sockets. Turn the 2 map light bulbs and the 2 map light sockets in the direction indicated by the arrow and install them as a unit.

  1. REMOVE NO. 1 ROOM LIGHT ASSEMBLY Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 claws and remove the lens cover. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. Disengage the claw and guide in the order shown in the illustration, and remove the room light cover. HINT: Use the same procedure for the RH side and the LH side. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 2 claws as shown in the illustration. HINT: Tape the screwdriver tip before use. Disengage the 2 claws. Using a screwdriver, disengage the 4 claws and remove the No. 1 room light assembly.

Measure the voltage according to the value(s) in the table below.   1. INSTALL NO. 1 ROOM LIGHT ASSEMBLY Engage the guide and claw in the order shown in the illustration, and install the room light cover. HINT: Use the same procedure for the RH side and the LH side. Engage the 4 claws and install the lens cover. Engage the 4 claws and install the room light switch base to the No. 1 room light assembly. Engage the 4 claws and install the No. 1 room light assembly.
