Fuel Pressure Release: Overview Toyota Corolla VIII

Mechanical 2 illustrations ~488 words

Ensure ignition is off. Disconnect negative battery cable. Place an approved gasoline container under fuel line connection. Cover fuel line connection with shop towel. Slowly loosen fuel line connection, allowing fuel pressure to be released. Once fuel pressure is released, fuel system components may be serviced.

Scheme 8
  1. Release fuel pressure. See «FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-49471-S17051076352001011500000). Drain cooling system and engine oil. Remove hood, battery and battery tray.
  2. Remove air intake duct with air cleaner assembly and air cleaner case. Disconnect control cables at throttle body. Disconnect cruise control actuator cable from retaining clamps. Remove underhood relay box, located above radiator.
  3. Disconnect electrical connectors, coolant hoses and transmission oil cooler lines (A/T) for radiator removal. Remove radiator with cooling fan(s). Disconnect necessary control cables, electrical connectors, fuel lines, coolant hoses and vacuum hoses for engine removal.
  4. Remove covers from fuse/relay box located at driver's side front corner of engine compartment. Disconnect 2 engine wiring electrical connectors from bottom of fuse/relay box. (Scheme 7)
  5. Remove passenger's side kick panel, and scuff plate from door opening. Remove carpet for access to engine wiring at Engine Control Module (ECM), located below instrument panel. (Scheme 8)
  6. Remove engine wiring bracket from ECM. Disconnect necessary connectors so wiring can be pulled out through engine side of firewall. Remove engine wiring-to-firewall retaining nuts, located below wiper motor. Pull engine wiring out, through firewall.
  7. Remove A/C compressor and power steering pump with hoses attached and secure aside. Remove bolts and A/C relay box from body. A/C relay box is located at passenger's side front corner of engine compartment, near rear of headlight assembly.
  8. Raise and support vehicle. Remove lower engine covers. Remove front exhaust pipe and support bracket. Front exhaust pipe is located between front catalytic converter or exhaust manifold and rear catalytic converter.
  9. Disconnect control cables and electrical connectors at transaxle. On M/T models, disconnect clutch release cylinder from transaxle with hose attached and secure aside. On A/T models, disconnect oil cooler hoses at transaxle. On all models, disconnect transaxle shift cable brackets from engine mount crossmember.
  10. Drain transaxle fluid. Remove front wheels, cotter pin and axle shaft nut. Remove nut and separate tie rod from steering knuckle. Disconnect stabilizer bar link from lower control arm.
  11. Remove ball joint-to-lower control arm bolts/nuts. Using soft-faced hammer, tap axle shaft to loosen from hub assembly. Push lower control arm down and separate axle shaft from hub assembly. Remove axle shafts from transaxle by prying between transaxle case and end of axle shaft until axle shaft disengages from transaxle.
  12. Support engine with hoist. Remove front and rear engine mount through-bolts. Remove rear engine mount-to-engine mount crossmember bolts/nuts. Remove rear engine mount from crossmember. Remove rear engine mount bracket from cylinder block.
  13. Disconnect A/C pipe bracket from engine mount crossmember. Remove bolts and engine mount crossmember. Remove left (transaxle side) and right (timing belt side) engine mounts. Lift engine and transaxle from vehicle.
