SYSTEM TEST INDEX

COMPONENT TESTS

Note. For component locations, see COMPONENT LOCATIONS .

COURTESY SWITCH

Disconnect door courtesy switch harness connector. Connect ohmmeter between body of door courtesy switch and electrical terminal. Continuity should exist when pin on door courtesy switch is released to on position. Continuity should not exist when pin on door courtesy switch is depressed to off position. Replace door courtesy switch if faulty.

KEY UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH

Disconnect key unlock warning switch 2-pin harness connector. Check continuity between key unlock warning switch connector terminals. (Scheme 5) Continuity should not exist when key is removed from ignition lock cylinder. Continuity should exist when key is inserted in ignition lock cylinder. Replace key unlock warning switch if continuity is not as specified.

Scheme 5

Scheme 5: KEY UNLOCK WARNING SWITCH

HEADLIGHT RELAY

Remove headlight control relay from engine room R/B. Check continuity between headlight relay terminals No. 4 and 3. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Continuity should exist. Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage between terminals No. 4 and 3. Check continuity between terminals No. 1 and 2. Continuity should exist while battery voltage is applied. Continuity should not exist when battery voltage is removed. If continuity is not as specified, replace headlight relay.

TAILLIGHT RELAY

Remove taillight relay from engine compartment junction block. Check continuity between taillight relay terminals No. 1 and 2. See WIRING DIAGRAMS . Continuity should exist. Using jumper wires, apply battery voltage to terminals No. 1 and 2. Check continuity between terminals No. 3 and 5. Continuity should exist while battery voltage is applied. Continuity should not exist when battery voltage is removed. If continuity is not as specified, replace taillight relay.

TAILGATE SWITCH

Check continuity of tailgate switch. There should be continuity between terminals No. 2 and 3 when switch is in UP position and between terminals No. 1 and 3 when switch is in DOWN position. (Scheme 6) There should be no continuity when switch is in OFF position. If continuity is not as specified, replace switch.

PIN VOLTAGE TESTS

Ensure all pin voltage values at Body Electronic Control Unit (ECU) are within specifications. Measure voltage (backprobe) between body ground and appropriate terminal. (Scheme 7)and (Scheme 8). For pin voltages, see BODY ECU PIN VOLTAGE TEST and BACK DOOR ECU PIN VOLTAGE TEST tables.
