Heater & Ventilation: Diagnosis Suzuki Vitara I

HEATER BLOWER RESISTOR INSPECTION

Measure each terminal-to-terminal resistance on resistor.

If measured resistance is incorrect, replace heater blower resistor.

Heater blower resistor resistance

Scheme 1

1. HI - LO: Approx. 2.0 ohms
2. HI - M1: Approx. 1.0 ohms
3. HI - M2: Approx. 0.4 ohms

Scheme 2

1. Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
2. Disable air bag system, if equipped. See «DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM»(ref-160470-S11816149552004021000000) .
3. Open glove box, then remove screw.
4. Remove glove box.
5. Disconnect relay coupler.
6. Remove heater blower relay (1) by loosening its fastening screw (2).

HEATER BLOWER RELAY INSPECTION

1. Connect battery positive (+) terminal to terminal (2) of relay.
2. Connect battery negative (-) terminal to terminal (1) of relay.
3. Check continuity between terminal (3) and (4). If there is no continuity when relay is connected to the battery, replace relay.

1. Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
2. Disable air bag system. See «DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM»(ref-160470-S11816149552004021000000) .
3. Pull off heater control lever knobs.
4. Remove meter cluster hood (1) by removing its mounting screws (2).
5. Remove ashtray, center garnish (1) and instrument glove box compartment.
6. Remove mode control switch (2) with heater control panel (3) from heater control lever assembly.
7. Remove heater control panel (3) from heater mode control switch (2).

HEATER MODE CONTROL ACTUATOR INSPECTION

1. Connect battery voltage (+) to terminal "b" and (-) to terminal "a".
2. Connect each terminal listed below to terminal "a" (negative (-) terminal of battery) as listed below and check operates at proper position with the blower fan operates.

1. Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
2. Disable air bag system. See «DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM»(ref-160470-S11816149552004021000000) .
3. Remove mode control switch. See «HEATER MODE CONTROL SWITCH REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(ref-182730-S08693058452005080900000) .
4. Remove glove box.
5. Disconnect control cables (3) from blower motor unit (2) and heater unit (1).
6. Disconnect heater blower motor switch (1) connector at coupler.
7. Remove heater control lever assembly (2).

1. Install in reverse order of removal procedure, adjustment the following items. Move control lever (1) to FRESH position (2). Push heater lever fully in arrow direction and fix cable with clamp in position as shown in the figure. Push blower lever fully in arrow direction and fix cable with clamp in position as shown in the figure. NOTE: After installing control cables, be sure that control levers move smoothly and stop at proper position.
2. Enable air bag system. See «DISABLING & ACTIVATING AIR BAG SYSTEM»(ref-160470-S11816149552004021000000) .

HEATER CONTROL LEVER ASSEMBLY INSPECTION

Check heater blower motor switch for each terminal-to-teminal continuity. See HEATER & VENTILATION WIRING CIRCUIT DIAGRAM .

2. Disconnect control cables (2) from control lever assembly (1).
