Precautions of EVAP System
The EVAP system differs depending on the vehicle specification, and the main difference is whether the vehicle equipped with the EVAP leak check system or not.
Because the service is different according to each EVAP system, be sure to identify the EVAP system referring to EVAP SYSTEM COMPONENTS .
EVAP Leak Check Pressure Sensor Circuit Check
- Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC with ignition switch OFF.
- Turn ignition switch to ON position, select "Data LIST" mode on SUZUKI scan tool.
- Check that displayed barometric pressure is specified value referring to " «EVAP LEAK CHECK PRESSURE SENSOR CHECK»(ref-514580-S07520555142012112100000) " under «EVAP LEAK CHECK MODULE INSPECTION»(ref-514580-S13927201172012112100000) . If barometric pressure is within specified value, EVAP leak check pressure sensor and its circuit are in good condition. If barometric pressure is out of specification, check EVAP leak check pressure sensor, wire harness and connections.

- Turn ignition switch to ON position, clear DTC and select "Active Test" mode on SUZUKI scan tool.
- Using SUZUKI scan tool, check that operating sound of EVAP leak detection pump is heard only when pump is switched ON. If operating sound of EVAP leak detection pump is heard, EVAP leak detection pump and its circuit are good condition. If operating sound of EVAP leak detection pump is not heard, check EVAP leak detection pump, wire harness and connections.

- Operate EVAP canister vent valve referring to Step 6) of «EVAP LEAK CHECK SYSTEM SMOKE TEST»(ref-514580-S25300746052012112100000) .
- Check that operating sound of EVAP canister vent valve (1) is heard only when EVAP canister vent valve is switched ON and OFF. If operating sound of EVAP canister vent valve is heard, EVAP canister vent valve and its circuit are in good condition. If operating sound of EVAP canister vent valve is not heard, check EVAP canister vent valve, wire harness and connections.

- Check coil resistance of EVAP canister vent valve between terminal "6" and "7" in EVAP leak check module. If resistance is as specified, proceed to next step. If not, replace. Coil resistance of EVAP canister vent valve 25 - 30 ohms at 20°C (68°F)
- Remove EVAP leak check module (1) from EVAP canister.
- Blow breath (2) from port (3). Breath should come out of port (4). If not, replace EVAP leak check module.
- Connect 12 V-battery to terminal "6" and terminal "7" of EVAP leak check module. In this state, blow breath from port (3). Breath should not come out of port (4). If check result is not specified above, replace EVAP leak check module. WARNING: If vacuum is applied by sucking at the valve, there is a risk of inhaling harmful fuel vapor that may present inside the valve. Be sure to use a hand vacuum pump to apply vacuum. CAUTION: If the battery is connected to the wrong terminals of the EVAP leak check module, the EVAP canister vent valve in the EVAP leak check module may be damaged. Be sure to connect the battery to the correct terminals of the EVAP leak check module.
EVAP Leak Detection Pump Check

- Check EVAP leak detection pump in EVAP leak check module as follows. Connect spherical pneumatic plastic bag (1) with approximately 12.5 cm (4.92 in.) diameter (volume of a sphere: 1L) to EVAP leak check module using a rubber band (2) as shown in figure. Operate EVAP canister vent valve and EVAP leak detection pump by connecting 12 V-battery to EVAP leak check module terminals as shown in figure. Check that air in the pneumatic plastic bag is fully evacuated by EVAP leak detection pump within approximately 2 minutes. If check result is not as described above, replace EVAP leak check module. CAUTION: Check to make sure that connection is made between correct terminals. Wrong connection can cause damage to EVAP canister vent valve and EVAP leak detection pump in EVAP leak check module.
EVAP Leak Check Pressure Sensor (combine with BARO sensor) check

Check barometric pressure and reference vacuum pressure as follows.

- Initial (barometric) pressure check: Arrange 3 new 1.5 V batteries (1) in series and connect its positive terminal to terminal "4" for EVAP leak check pressure sensor of EVAP leak check module and negative terminal "2". Check EVAP leak check pressure sensor output voltage (barometric pressure signal voltage) between terminal "3" and "Ground" terminal. If output voltage is out of specification, replace EVAP leak check module. If output voltage is within specified value, go to next step. CAUTION: If the battery is connected to the wrong terminals of the EVAP leak check module, the EVAP leak check pressure sensor in the EVAP leak check module may be damaged. Be sure to connect the battery to the correct terminals of the EVAP leak check module. - Reference vacuum pressure (reference orifice vacuum) check: In the state of Step 1 ), operate EVAP leak detection pump by connecting 12 V-battery to terminal "1" and terminal "5" of EVAP leak check module. Under pump operating, check that pressure sensor output voltage (reference orifice vacuum) becomes lower than pressure sensor output voltage of Step 1 ) by approx. 0.1 V. If sensor voltage is out of specification, replace EVAP leak check module.
EVAP Leak Check Module Visual Check

Check EVAP leak check module and its O-ring (1) for damage and deterioration.
If malfunctioning is found, replace.

- Disconnect negative cable at battery.
- Hoist vehicle.
- Remove EVAP canister as follows. EVAP leak check model Remove EVAP canister bracket cover (1). Disconnect EVAP leak check module connector. Disconnect vapor control hose (2) from fuel tank and suction pipe No. 1 (3) from suction pipe No. 2 (10). For quick joint of hoses, disconnect it as follows: Remove mud or dust around joint by blowing compressed air, and push joint fully in arrow direction. Disconnect hose joint while joint lock is unlocked by pushing both sides of joint lock. Remove EVAP canister bracket (7) and cover (8) after removing bolts (4), (5) then (6). Disconnect purge pipe No. 2 (9) from EVAP canister. Remove EVAP leak check module (11) referring to «EVAP LEAK CHECK MODULE REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-514580-S25648915292012112100000) , if necessary. Non-EVAP-leak-check model Disconnect hoses (1) from EVAP canister (2). Remove EVAP canister bracket (3) with EVAP canister from vehicle body. Remove EVAP canister from EVAP canister bracket.
