ESP® Hydraulic Unit/Control Module Assembly Removal and Installation

CAUTIONPerforming certain prohibited service operations will affect the original performance of the ESP® hydraulic unit / control module assembly. Do not perform the following prohibited service operations: Never disassemble ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly, loosen blind plug or remove motor. Performing any of these prohibited services will affect original performance of ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly. Do not allow brake fluid to get on painted surfaces. Painted surfaces will be damaged by brake fluid, flush it with water immediately if any fluid is spilled. Regarding ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly removal and installation, confirm specified torque and use hand tool to avoid damage. Use care not to allow dust to enter ESP® hydraulic unit/control module. Do not place ESP® hydraulic unit/control module on its side or upside down. Handling it in inappropriate way will affect its original performance. Do not give an impact to hydraulic unit. Brake fluid is extremely damaging to painted surfaces. If brake fluid contacts a painted surface, immediately wipe it off and flush the surface thoroughly with water.

  1. Disconnect negative (-) cable from battery.
  2. Disconnect ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly connector (1) by pull up the lock lever (2).
  3. Using special tool, loosen flare nuts (1) and disconnect brake pipes (2) from ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly (3). Special Tool (A): 09950-78220 NOTE: Put bleeder plug cap or the like onto pipe to prevent fluid from spilling. Do not allow brake fluid to get on painted surfaces.
  4. Remove ESP® hydraulic unit/control module with bracket from vehicle by removing three bracket bolts.
  5. Remove bolt and pull out ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly (1) from bracket (3) using flat end rod or the like (2).

  1. Install ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly (1) to bracket (2). Tightening torque ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly bolt (a): 9 N.m (0.9 kg-m, 7.0 lbf-ft)
  2. Install ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly with bracket to vehicle body.
  3. Tighten ABS hydraulic unit/control module assembly bracket bolt as follows. Tighten bracket bolt "1" and "2" by hand. Then tighten bracket bolt to specified torque. Tighten order "1" --> "2". Tightening torque ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly bracket bolt (b): 26 N.m (2.6 kg-m, 19.0 lbf-ft)
  4. Connect brake pipe to ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly. Special Tool : 09950-78220 Tightening torque Brake pipe flare nut (M10) (c): 16 N.m (1.6 kg-m, 12.0 lbf-ft) Tightening torque Brake pipe flare nut (M12) (d): 19 N.m (1.9 kg-m, 14.0 lbf-ft)
  5. Connect ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly connector (1) by pull up the lock lever (2).
  6. Connect negative (-) cable to battery.
  7. Bleed air from brake system, see «AIR BLEEDING OF BRAKE SYSTEM»(ref-514572-S01294073172012112100000) .
  8. Check each installed part for fluid leakage.
  9. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC.
  10. Turn ignition switch to ON position. And SLIP indicator light flush. (Other than replace with new one) If other than SLIP indicator light lights, check DTC and repair it.
  11. Turn ignition switch to ON position. And ESP® warning light, SLIP indicator light, ESP® OFF light, EBD warning light (brake warning light) lights and ABS warning light flush. (Replace new one)
  12. Check DTC. NOTE: If any DTC(s) other than C1075 are detected, sensor calibration can not be completed. Repair the detected it(s) first.
  13. Perform «SENSOR CALIBRATION OF ESP®»(ref-514554-S22939193582012112100000) .
  14. Perform «ESP® HYDRAULIC UNIT OPERATION CHECK»(ref-514554-S11251751542012112100000) .
  15. Turn ignition switch to OFF position once and then ON position. In this state, make sure that indicator light and warning light turns off.
  16. Check DTC(s) are not stored in ESP® hydraulic unit/control module.

Front Wheel Speed Sensor Removal and Installation

Front Wheel Speed Sensor Encoder Removal and Installation

Rear Wheel Speed Sensor Encoder Removal and Installation

Reference: REAR WHEEL SPEED SENSOR ENCODER ON-VEHICLE INSPECTION

CAUTIONRear wheel encoder is included in rear wheel hub assembly. If rear wheel encoder needs to replaced, replace it as a rear wheel hub assembly.

For removal and installation of rear wheel hub assembly referring to REAR WHEEL HUB ASSEMBLY REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (REAR DISC BRAKE MODEL) .

  1. Check that basic brake system other than ESP® refer to «BRAKES DIAGNOSIS NOTE»(ref-514572-S41509579162012112100000) .
  2. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC (1) with ignition switch OFF. Special Tool (A): SUZUKI scan tool (SUZUKI-SDT)
  3. Turn ignition switch to ON position and select menu "Data List" mode of SUZUKI scan tool. Refer to scan tool operators manual for further details.
  4. When brake pedal is released, check "Master Cyl Press" under "Data List" of SUZUKI scan tool. If pressure is out of specification, replace ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly. Master cylinder pressure specification Brake pedal released: 0 ± 0.8 MPa (0 ± 8 kgf/cm 2 , 0 ± 113 psi)
  5. Hoist vehicle and remove right-side front wheel.
  6. Install special tool to right-side front caliper as follows. Remove bleeder plug from right-side front caliper. Install special tool to bleeder plug hole of right-side front caliper. Special Tool (A): 09956-02311 Install bleeder plug (1) to special tool.
  7. When bleeder plug loosen and depress brake pedal to make special tool gauge reading 10 MPa (100 kgf/cm 2 , 1422 psi), check "Master Cyl Press" under "Data List" of SUZUKI scan tool. If pressure displayed on SUZUKI scan tool is out of specification, replace ESP® hydraulic unit/control module assembly. Master cylinder pressure specification Brake pedal depressed 10 MPa (100 kgf/cm 2 , 1422 psi): 10 ± 1.2 MPa (100 ± 12 kgf/cm 2 , 1422 ± 170 psi)
  8. After completing the check, turn ignition switch to OFF position and disconnect SUZUKI scan tool from DLC.
  9. Tighten bleeder plug and bleed air from brake system, referring to «AIR BLEEDING OF BRAKE SYSTEM»(ref-514572-S01294073172012112100000) .

  1. Park and level the vehicle with parking brake and fix wheels with chokes.
  2. Check yaw rate/G sensor installation condition.
  3. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC (1) with ignition switch OFF. Special Tool (A): SUZUKI scan tool (SUZUKI-SDT)
  4. Turn ignition switch to ON position and select menu "Data List" mode of SUZUKI scan tool. Refer to scan tool operators manual for further details.
  5. Check "G Sensor (lateral)" under "Data List" of SUZUKI scan tool in the following vehicle conditions. Level condition Right-up condition Left-up condition If Lateral G condition is out of specification, replace yaw rate/G sensor.   1. Check yaw rate/G sensor installation condition.
  2. Connect SUZUKI scan tool to DLC (1) with ignition switch OFF. Special Tool (A): SUZUKI scan tool (SUZUKI-SDT)
  3. Turn ignition switch to ON position and select menu "Data List" mode of SUZUKI scan tool. Refer to scan tool operators manual for further details.
  4. Check "Yaw rate sensor" under "Data List" of SUZUKI scan tool in the following vehicle conditions. Parking condition Drive vehicle in right turning condition with steering wheel fully turned Drive vehicle in left turning condition with steering wheel fully turned If yaw rate condition is out of specification, replace yaw rate/G sensor. Yaw rate specification YAW RATE SPECIFICATION Vehicle condition Yaw rate Parking 0 ± 4 deg/s Right turning 30 ± 4 deg/s Left turning -30 ± 4 deg/s NOTE: Drive the vehicle on level ground and at 10 km/h (6.2 mile/h). Minimum turning radius is 5.3 m (17.4 ft).

Yaw Rate/G Sensor Removal and Installation

CAUTIONIf you do not take proper precautions when removing and installing the yaw rate / G sensor, you can damage it or cause it to lose its original performance. Avoid using an impact wrench to remove or install the yaw rate / G sensor. Using such a tool increases the risk of over-tightening the assembly's bolts and damaging the sensors. Be careful not to drop or otherwise expose the sensor assembly to a large impact. If the sensor assembly is dropped or hits hard against something, do not try to disassemble and repair it but replace the sensor assembly with a new one.

Removal

  1. Disconnect negative (-) cable at battery.
  2. Remove console box referring to «CONSOLE BOX COMPONENTS»(ref-514561-S29435778172012112100000) .
  3. Disconnect connector from yaw rate/G sensor.
  4. Remove yaw rate/G sensor from sensor bracket.

Installation

  1. Before installing yaw rate/G sensor (1), check installing condition as follows. Deformations around sensor installation area (2) (in sensor bracket). Foreign matters on mating surface between sensor and sensor bracket.
  2. Install yaw rate/G sensor (1) to floor panel. Tightening torque Yaw rate/G sensor bolt (a): 6.5 N.m (0.65 kg-m, 5.0 lbf-ft)
  3. Connect connector to yaw rate/G sensor.
  4. Install console box referring to «CONSOLE BOX COMPONENTS»(ref-514561-S29435778172012112100000) .
  5. Connect negative (-) cable to battery.

Steering Angle Sensor Removal and Installation

Refer to STEERING ANGLE SENSOR REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION (ESP® MODEL) .
