MODE CONTROL LEVER

The mode control lever controls the flow of air into the vehicle. When control lever is in vent position, air is discharged from the center and side outlets of the instrument panel. When lever is in the bi-level position, air is discharged from the floor, center and side outlets.

When mode control lever is in heater position, heated air is discharged from the floor outlets only. In heater and defrost position, heated air is discharged from floor outlets and windshield and side defroster outlets. When lever is in the defrost position, heated air is discharged from the windshield and side defroster outlets.

FRESH AIR CONTROL LEVER

The fresh air control lever mechanically operates a cable which opens or closes the fresh/recirculated air mode door to fresh (outside) air. When lever is in recirculated air position, outside air is shut off and air from inside passenger compartment is recirculated through the blower motor to selected air outlets.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL LEVER

When temperature control lever is moved to full hot position, the air temperature diverter door opens fully, allowing all airflow through heater core to selected outlets. In full cold position, the air temperature diverter door closes off airflow through heater core. Adjusting the air temperature control lever allows more or less air to by-pass heater core.

BLOWER LEVER

The blower lever controls blower motor speed. When lever is in OFF position, ram air will continue to enter the passenger compartment.

MODE CONTROL CABLE

Move control lever to vent position. Put outer cable into control lever cable guide. Push mode control door lever to fully open position. This will put cable in proper position. Clamp control cable securely.

TEMPERATURE CONTROL CABLE

Move control lever to maximum cooling position. Push temperature control door lever fully in counterclockwise direction. This will adjust cable to proper position. Clamp control cable securely.

FRESH AIR CONTROL CABLE

Move control lever to fresh air position. Push fresh air control door lever fully clockwise. This will adjust cable to proper position. Clamp control cable securely.

BLOWER MOTOR WILL NOT RUN

Check fuse. Check blower motor resistor for damage and continuity. Check blower motor. Check blower motor resistor. See BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR under TESTING.

TEMPERATURE NOT CORRECT

Control cable is broken or binding. Check cables, and adjust them as necessary. Air damper is broken. Repair air damper. Air ducts are restricted. Repair ducts as necessary. Heater core is leaking or clogged. Replace heater core. Heater hoses are leaking, kinked, or clogged. Replace or reroute heater hoses.

BLOWER MOTOR RESISTOR

  1. Blower resistor is mounted in front lower blower motor housing, on right side of instrument panel. Disconnect wiring harness from resistor.
  2. Check for continuity between terminal No. 2 (Pink wire) and terminal No. 4 (Pink/Black wire). Check for continuity between terminal No. 2 (Pink wire) and terminal No. 3 (Pink/Green wire). Check for continuity between terminal No. 2 (Pink wire) and terminal No. 1 (Pink/Blue wire). Continuity should exist in all cases. If continuity is not as specified, replace blower motor resistor.

BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH

Disconnect blower motor switch. Check continuity between blower motor switch terminals in indicated switch positions. See BLOWER MOTOR SWITCH CONTINUITY table. If continuity is not as specified, replace blower motor switch.
