Removal & Installation
Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheels. Remove caliper pin bolts. Remove caliper from caliper carrier, and wire aside. Remove brake pads and anti-rattle clips. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheels. Disconnect brake flexhose. Plug all brakeline openings. Remove caliper pin bolts. Remove caliper from caliper carrier. To install, reverse removal procedure. Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove front wheels. Remove caliper assembly, and wire aside. Mount dial indicator and check rotor runout before removal. Maximum rotor runout is .006" (.15 mm) for Grand Vitara and Vitara, and .004" (.10 mm) for Esteem and Swift.
- On Esteem and Swift, remove 2 rotor attaching screws. On all models, install two 8-mm bolts into rotor holes between wheel studs. Alternately tighten bolts and pull rotor from hub. To install, place rotor on hub and reverse removal procedure.
- Remove master cylinder. Disconnect vacuum hose from booster. Disconnect push rod clevis from brake pedal arm. Remove 4 nuts attaching booster to firewall. Remove booster.
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Bleed hydraulic system. Check and adjust push rod clevis measurement from booster firewall mounting surface (with gasket attached) to center of brake pedal clevis pin hole. (Схема №1)
Removal & Installation (Swift)
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheel and spindle dust cap. Unstake and remove spindle nut. Ensure parking brake is fully released. Loosen adjustment nut on parking brake cable.
- To increase drum-to-shoe clearance, remove plug from back side of backing plate. Insert screwdriver into hole until it contacts shoe hold-down spring. Push screwdriver in and toward front of vehicle, depressing hold-down spring and releasing tension on parking brake lever.
- Remove brake drum using Slide Hammer (09942-15510) and Adapter (09943-17911).
- Install brake drum using NEW spindle nut. Tighten spindle nut to specification and restake. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-4558-S05046985942000070500000) . Install backing plate plug. Adjust brake shoes and parking brake. See «PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE»(ref-4558-S25872658472000070500000) under ADJUSTMENTS.
Removal & Installation (Esteem, Grand Vitara & Vitara)
Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheel. Ensure parking brake lever is fully released. Loosen adjustment nut on parking brake cable. Remove brake drum by inserting two 8-mm bolts through holes in front of drum and alternately tightening bolts. To install, reverse removal procedure. Adjust brake shoes and parking brake. See PARKING/EMERGENCY BRAKE under ADJUSTMENTS.
Remove brake drum. Remove shoe hold-down springs. Remove brake shoe strut and return springs. Remove brake shoes. Check springs and brake shoe strut ratchet for wear or damage. To install, reverse removal procedure. Pump brake pedal several times to set automatic adjuster.
With brake drum and shoes removed, disconnect brakeline from wheel cylinder, and cap line. Remove mounting bolts and remove wheel cylinder. To install, reverse removal procedure.
Disconnect fluid level sensor lead wire (if equipped). Disconnect brakelines on master cylinder. Cap all brakelines, and plug holes. Remove 2 nuts attaching master cylinder to brake booster, and remove master cylinder. To install, reverse removal procedure. Bench bleed master cylinder and bleed brake system after installation. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
Removal
Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect and plug brakelines from LSPV. Remove LSPV together with spring and stay. Remove spring and stay from lever.
Installation
To install, reverse removal procedure. Apply multipurpose grease to upper and lower joints of coil spring. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS . Bleed brake system. See BLEEDING BRAKE SYSTEM .
Removal & Installation (Grand Vitara & Vitara)
- Raise and support vehicle. Remove rear wheels. Remove rear brake drum. Disconnect brakeline from wheel cylinder, and plug openings. Remove 4 backing plate-to-rear axle housing bolts.
- Using Adapter (09943-35511) and Slide Hammer (09942-15510), remove rear axle. Remove oil seal from axle housing. To install, reverse removal procedure.
