- Drain engine oil. Refer to «CHANGING ENGINE OIL»(ref-375753-S14397525362010102800000) .
- Remove oil pan (lower) using the following steps. Remove the oil pan (lower) bolts using power tool in reverse order as shown. Insert Tool between the oil pan (lower) and the oil pan (upper). Tool number: KV10111100 (J-37228) CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the mating surfaces. Do not insert screwdriver, this will damage the mating surfaces. NOTE: Tap (1) Tool to insert it and then slide (2) it by tapping on the side of the Tool as shown.
Removal (Upper)

- Remove engine under covers (front) and (rear). Refer to «FRONT BUMPER: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375736-S25592846052010102800000) .
- Drain engine oil. Refer to «CHANGING ENGINE OIL»(ref-375753-S14397525362010102800000) .
- Drain engine coolant. Refer to «CHANGING ENGINE COOLANT»(ref-375748-S18727906452010102800000) .
- Remove oil level gauge and oil level gauge guide.
- Remove front final drive (4WD models). Refer to «FRONT FINAL DRIVE ASSEMBLY: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375708-S40695854452010102800000) .
- Remove front frame crossmember.
- Disconnect steering gear lower joint shaft bolt and steering gear nuts and bolts, position out of the way. Refer to «POWER STEERING GEAR AND LINKAGE: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375696-S10085087742010102800000) .
- Remove stabilizer bar brackets and position stabilizer bar out of the way. Refer to «FRONT SUSPENSION ASSEMBLY: COMPONENT»(ref-375714-S16245017402010102800000) .
- Disconnect A/T fluid cooler tube brackets and position out of the way. Refer to «TRANSMISSION ASSEMBLY: COMPONENT»(ref-375705-S19453451932010102800000) .
- Remove oil filter, as necessary. Refer to «OIL FILTER: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375753-S35351721652010102800000) .
- Disconnect oil cooler hoses and remove oil cooler, if necessary. Refer to «OIL COOLER: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375753-S28632772362010102800000) .
- Disconnect oil pressure switch and remove, if necessary.
- Remove oil pan (lower).
- Remove oil strainer.
- Remove transmission joint bolts which pierce oil pan (upper). - Remove rear cover plate.
- Remove oil pan (upper) bolts with power tool in reverse order as shown. Insert Tool between oil pan (upper) and lower cylinder block. Tap (1) Tool to insert it and then slide (2) it by tapping on the side as shown. Tool number: KV10111100 (J-37228) CAUTION: Be careful not to damage mating surfaces.
- Remove O-rings from bottom of lower cylinder block and oil pump.
Oil Cooler: Removal and Installation
| WARNING | Be careful not to burn yourself, as the engine oil and engine coolant may be hot. |
| CAUTION | Do not spill engine coolant on the drive belt. Do not spill engine oil on rubber parts such as drive belts and engine mounting insulator. |
Removal
Note. When removing oil cooler only, step 1 is unnecessary.
- Drain engine coolant from radiator and cylinder block. Refer to «CHANGING ENGINE COOLANT»(ref-375748-S18727906452010102800000) and «ENGINE UNIT: DISASSEMBLY AND ASSEMBLY»(ref-375721-S36922285552010102800000) . NOTE: Perform this step only when removing water pipes and hoses.
- Remove engine front under cover. Refer to «FRONT BUMPER: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375736-S25592846052010102800000) .
- Disconnect water hoses from oil cooler, pinching hoses near oil cooler to prevent engine coolant from spilling. CAUTION: Perform this step when engine is cold.
- Remove oil filter. Refer to «OIL FILTER: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375753-S35351721652010102800000) .
- Remove connector bolt, and remove oil cooler.
Installation
Installation is in the reverse order of removal, paying attention to the following.
Scheme 49
- Confirm that no foreign objects are adhering to the sealing surfaces of the oil cooler and oil pan (upper).
- Tighten connector bolt after aligning cutout on oil cooler with protrusion on oil pan (upper) side.
- Disconnect the battery negative terminal. Refer to «BATTERY: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375739-S30033651042010102800000) .
- Remove the RH and LH wheels and tires. Refer to «WHEEL AND TIRE ASSEMBLY: ROTATION»(ref-375729-S18715319452010102800000) .
- Remove the RH and LH front fender protectors. Refer to «FRONT FENDER: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375735-S17665662782010102800000) .
- Remove the air duct and resonator assembly and the air cleaner case (upper). Refer to «AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT: EXPLODED VIEW»(ref-375721-S38591214502010102800000) .
- Remove timing chain (primary) only. Refer to «TIMING CHAIN: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION»(ref-375721-S13913298932010102800000) .
- Remove the oil pump assembly.
Installation is in the reverse order of removal, paying attention to the following.
- When installing, align crankshaft flat faces with inner rotor flat faces.
