Vehicle Dynamics Control System (Except Wrx): Other Subaru XV GP

CAUTION

  1. Wear appropriate work clothing, including a helmet, protective goggles and protective shoes when performing any work.
  2. Remove contamination including dirt and corrosion before removal, installation or disassembly.
  3. Keep the disassembled parts in order and protect them from dust and dirt.
  4. Before disconnecting connectors of sensors or units, be sure to disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  5. Before removal, installation or disassembly, be sure to clarify the failure. Avoid unnecessary removal, installation, disassembly and replacement.
  6. Vehicle components are extremely hot after driving. Be wary of receiving burns from heated parts.
  7. Be sure to tighten fasteners including bolts and nuts to the specified torque.
  8. Place shop jacks or rigid racks at the specified points.
  9. When removing, installing or replacing the VDCCM&H/U, VDCCM&H/U bracket, steering wheel or steering angle sensor, perform "VDC sensor midpoint setting mode" of the VDC. < Refer to «VDC SENSOR MIDPOINT SETTING MODE»(ref-560389-S40582429032013061300000) , ADJUSTMENT, VDC Control Module and Hydraulic Control Unit (VDCCM&H/U). >

CHECK FUSE

  1. Remove the fuse and inspect visually.
  2. If the fuse is blown out, replace the fuse.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove the intake boot. < Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-560358-S14301381762013061300000) , Air Intake Boot. > CAUTION: Move aside the intake boot to perform the operation without disconnecting the PCV hose.
  3. Remove the VDC control module & hydraulic control unit (VDCCM&H/U). Remove any dirt from around the VDCCM&H/U. Pull up the lock lever (b) while pressing the lock button (a) and disconnect the VDCCM&H/U connector. CAUTION: Do not pull on the harness when disconnecting the connector. Using a flare nut wrench, disconnect each brake pipe from VDCCM&H/U. CAUTION: Wrap the brake pipe with a vinyl bag so as not to spill the brake fluid on the painted surface of the vehicle body. If brake fluid is spilled on the painted surface of the vehicle body, wash it off immediately with water and wipe clean. Remove the nuts and remove the VDCCM&H/U from the bracket - hydraulic unit. CAUTION: Do not drop or bump the VDCCM&H/U. Do not turn the VDCCM&H/U upside down or place it sideways for storage. Be careful not to let foreign matter enter the VDCCM&H/U Be careful that no water and fluid enter the connectors.

VDC SENSOR MIDPOINT SETTING MODE

After installing, replacing or adjusting the following parts, perform the VDC sensor midpoint setting mode.

  1. Steering angle sensor
  2. Steering wheel
  3. Suspension parts
  4. Wheel alignment
  5. VDCCM&H/U
  6. VDCCM&H/U bracket
  1. Park the vehicle on a level surface, and set the steering wheel to the neutral position.
  2. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to data link connector. Run the "PC application for Subaru Select Monitor". On «Main Menu» display, select {Each System Check}. Select {Brake Control System}. When {VDC} is displayed, select the [OK] button. From {Current Data Display & Save}, select {Steer Angle Sensor Op}, {Longitudinal G Sensor} and {Lateral G sensor Output}.
  3. Check that the steering angle sensor output value is between -10 and 10 deg.
  4. Check that output values for the longitudinal G sensor and lateral G sensor are -2 - 2 m/s 2 .
  5. From {Work Support}, select {VDC sensor midpoint setting mode}, and perform the setting according to the procedure displayed on the Subaru Select Monitor Screen.
  6. Drive the vehicle for 10 minutes, and check that there is no system malfunction or the warning light illumination while driving.
  7. Make sure that the DTC is not stored.

ABS SEQUENCE CONTROL WITH SUBARU SELECT MONITOR

Note. In the event of any trouble, the ABS sequence control will not operate.

  1. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to data link connector. Run the "PC application for Subaru Select Monitor". On «Main Menu» display, select {Each System Check}. Select {Brake Control System}. When {VDC} is displayed, select the [OK] button. Select the {ABS Sequence Control Mode} from {Work Support}.
  2. Follow the procedures displayed in the Subaru Select Monitor to execute the following. When using a brake tester, depress the brake pedal with a force of 100 N (10.2 kgf, 22.5 lbf). When using a pressure gauge, press the brake pedal so that the pressure gauge indicates 3, 500 kPa (36 kgf/cm 2 , 511 psi).
  3. The brake system being operated is displayed on the Subaru Select Monitor.

CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF ABS SEQUENCE CONTROL

When the following conditions develop, the ABS sequence control stops and ABS operation is returned to the normal control mode.

  1. When the speed of at least one wheel reaches 10 km/h (6 MPH).
  2. When the brake pedal is released during ABS sequence control and the switch - stop light becomes OFF.
  3. After completion of ABS sequence control.
  4. When a malfunction is detected.

VDC SEQUENCE CONTROL WITH SUBARU SELECT MONITOR

Note. In the event of any trouble, sequence control will not operate.

  1. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to data link connector. Run the "PC application for Subaru Select Monitor". On «Main Menu» display, select {Each System Check}. Select {Brake Control System}. When {VDC} is displayed, select the [OK] button. Select the {VDC Function Check Mode} from {Work Support}.
  2. Operate according to the procedures displayed in the Subaru Select Monitor.
  3. The brake system being operated is displayed on the Subaru Select Monitor.

CONDITIONS FOR COMPLETION OF VDC SEQUENCE CONTROL

1 CHECK YAW RATE & G SENSOR. Check the installation condition of the VDC control module & hydraulic control module (VDCCM&H/U). Select "Current Data Display & Save" on the Subaru Select Monitor. CHECK WITH SUBARU SELECT MONITOR

  1. Connect the Subaru Select Monitor to data link connector. Run the "PC application for Subaru Select Monitor". On «Main Menu» display, select {Each System Check}. Select {Brake Control System}. When {VDC} is displayed, select the [OK] button. From {Current Data Display & Save}, select {FR Wheel Speed} and {FL Wheel Speed}.
  2. Check if the speed indicated on the display changes in the same manner as the speedometer reading during acceleration/deceleration when the steering wheel is in the straight-ahead position.
  3. If the speed indicated on the display does not change in the inspection, check the ABS wheel speed sensor. < Refer to «CHECK ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR UNIT»(ref-560389-S30985459822013061300000) , INSPECTION, Front ABS Wheel Speed Sensor. >

Scheme 80: CHECK ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR UNIT
  1. Visually check the tip of the ABS wheel speed sensor for foreign particles or damage. If necessary, clean the tip or replace the ABS wheel speed sensor.
  2. Disconnect the ABS wheel speed sensor connector.
  3. Check the ABS wheel speed sensor cable for discontinuity. If defective, replace the ABS wheel speed sensor.
  4. Connect a 12 V power supply to No. 1 terminal of ABS wheel speed sensor connector, then attach resistance to the No. 2 terminal. Rotate the wheel at about 2.75 km/h (2 MPH), and measure the voltage using an oscilloscope. Standard value of output voltage: 0.7 - 1.4 V
  5. Replace the ABS wheel speed sensor if the inspection result is not within the standard value.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the rear wheels.
  3. Remove the rear ABS wheel speed sensor. CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the sensor. Do not apply excessive force to the sensor harness. Leave the sensor harness clamp on the vehicle side. Take out the trunk mat. Tilt the backrest assembly of the rear seat forward. Remove the clips located at the bottom of the cover COMPL - rear backrest LH and RH of the rear seat back. Remove the clips, and turn over the trim panel - trunk side. Disconnect the connector of the rear ABS wheel speed sensor. Remove the grommet from the rear wheel housing, and pull out the connector of the rear ABS wheel speed sensor. Remove the harness clip and bolt, and remove the rear ABS wheel speed sensor.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Lift up the vehicle, and then remove the rear wheels.
  3. Remove the rear ABS wheel speed sensor. CAUTION: Be careful not to damage the sensor. Do not apply excessive force to the sensor harness. Leave the sensor harness clamp on the vehicle side. Tilt the backrest assembly of the rear seat forward. Remove the clips located at the bottom of the cover COMPL - rear backrest LH and RH of the rear seat back. Remove the mat - rear floor CTR and the spacer - rear floor side. Remove the clips, and remove the trim panel - rear skirt. Remove the lid upper rear (a) and the cap - rear strut (b) in the order from (1) to (6). Disconnect the connector of the rear ABS wheel speed sensor. Remove the grommet from the rear wheel housing, and pull out the connector of the rear ABS wheel speed sensor. Remove the harness clip and bolt, and remove the rear ABS wheel speed sensor. ABS WHEEL SPEED SENSOR
