CAUTION

1. Before disassembling or reassembling parts, always disconnect the battery ground cable from battery. When replacing the audio, control module and other parts provided with memory functions, record the memory contents before disconnecting the battery ground cable. Otherwise, the memory is cleared.
2. Reassemble the parts in the reverse order of disassembly procedure unless otherwise indicated.
3. Adjust parts to the given specifications.
4. Connect the connectors securely during reassembly.
5. After reassembly, make sure functional parts operate smoothly.
6. Yellow connectors and harnesses with yellow tapes around them are the connectors and harnesses for the airbag system. Using a tester above such circuits may cause malfunction of airbag system. Follow the cautions for the airbag system in this case. Refer to «CAUTION»(ref-565203-S06105343772013071000000) .
7. Be careful not to damage the airbag system wiring harness when servicing electrical parts and switches.
8. If the steering wheel and steering angle sensor (steering roll connector) are removed, adjust the steering angle sensor. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-565186-S16232332342013071000000) .

CHECK MICROPHONE CONNECTION

Perform the inspection mode of the microphone connection.

1. When "HOOK OFF" button of the satellite switch is pressed with telephone unregistered, the screen switches to «BT» and "Welcome" is displayed.
2. While "Welcome" is displayed, press "+" --> "HOOK OFF" --> "+" --> "HOOK OFF" --> "+" continuously in 5 seconds.
3. After "Speak loudly" is displayed, the inspection mode of the microphone connection is started.
4. When the inspection mode of the microphone connection is completed, the inspection result is displayed. MIC: good: normal MIC: CHECK: There is something wrong with the connection status of the microphone. Check the following items. Connection status of the microphone Change the microphone or audio unit and check the microphone connection again then replace the faulty part.

CHECK EACH VEHICLE SIGNAL

1. With the main power OFF, press and hold the button (c) for 3 seconds or more while pressing the buttons (a) and (b) simultaneously. NOTE: Pressing the button (a) for 3 seconds or more, or turning the ignition switch from ACC OFF to ON position can exit the diagnostic mode.
2. Line Diag screen is displayed.
3. Check the connection status for each item listed in "Vehicle Signal Check" displayed on the right of the screen.

1. CHECK ILLUMINATION NOTE: Before starting inspections, turn the ignition switch to ON. Turn the lighting switch to level 1. Make sure that the bright switch is not turned ON at this time. Make sure that "ON" lights in ILL+ and then the screen becomes dim. ON: Normal. OFF: Abnormal. Check the signal line connector. If there are no problems, the unit could be faulty.
2. CHECK SPEED SENSOR NOTE: Before starting inspections, check the safety around the vehicle. Lift up the vehicle as necessary. When the diagnostic trouble code is input in the VDCCM, perform the Clear Memory operation. Drive the vehicle at 9 km/h (6 MPH) or more. Check that "ON" is displayed in SPD. ON: Normal. OFF: Vehicle speed is less than 7 km/h (4 MPH), or malfunction is detected in the signal line. Check the signal line connector. If there are no problems, the unit could be faulty.
3. CHECK PARKING BRAKE SIGNAL Pull parking brake lever. Check that "ON" is displayed in PKB. ON: Normal. OFF: Abnormal. Check the signal line connector. If there are no problems, the unit could be faulty.
4. CHECK BACK SENSOR NOTE: Before starting inspections, check the safety around the rear end of the vehicle and then turn the ignition switch to ON. Pull the parking brake and depress the brake, then put the gear in reverse. Make sure that "ON" is displayed in REV. ON: Normal. OFF: Abnormal. Check the signal line connector. If there are no problems, the unit could be faulty.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
2. Remove the center panel assembly. CAUTION: Do not put your finger on the fin of the air vent grille. Doing so may damage the fin. Attach the protective tape (a) to the meter visor. Insert a finger into the air vent grille and release the left and right clips at the top of the center panel. (A), (B) Insert a finger into the air vent grille and release the left and right clips at the center of the center panel. (C), (D) Release the clips at the bottom of the center panel and remove the center panel assembly.
3. Remove the audio assembly. Remove the left and right screws, and partially pull the audio out from center console. Disconnect the connectors, and remove the audio assembly.

SEDAN MODEL

2. Remove the rear shelf trim. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-565181-S06213101142013071000000) .
3. Remove the woofer. Remove the screws. Disconnect the harness connector and remove the woofer assembly.

OUTBACK MODEL

1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
2. Remove the rear quarter trim LWR. Refer to «OUTBACK MODEL»(ref-565181-S28303562872013071000000) .
3. Remove the woofer. Remove the woofer bracket mounting bolts and nuts, then remove the woofer bracket. Disconnect the harness connector and remove the woofer assembly.

TYPE B

Measure the resistance between the antenna terminal and each antenna wire.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
2. Wrap a piece of aluminum foil around the tip of probe and press foil against antenna wire with your finger.
3. To locate the broken point, move the probe along antenna wire. NOTE: If an antenna wire is OK, resistance will be less than 20 ohms. If an antenna wire is broken, resistance will be more than 1 Mohms.
4. Repair the antenna wire if the place of the open circuit is identified. Refer to «REPAIR»(ref-565215-S32564809682013071000000) .

Scheme 87

1. Clean the external circumference of antenna wire and around with alcohol or white gasoline.
2. Paste a thin masking film on the glass along broken wire.
3. Apply the conductive silver composition (DUPONT No. 4817) on the broken portion with a drawing pen.
4. Dry out the deposited portion.
5. After repair has been completed, measure the resistance in repaired wire.

Scheme 88

1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
2. Remove the rear shelf trim. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-565181-S06213101142013071000000) .
3. Remove the noise suppressor. Disconnect harness connector from noise suppressor. Remove the harness clamps and bolts and detach the noise suppressor.

1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
2. Remove the rear gate trim. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-565181-S41202083732013071000000) .
3. Remove the noise suppressor. Disconnect harness connector from noise suppressor. Remove the harness clamps and bolts and detach the noise suppressor.

STEERING ROLL CONNECTOR

Scheme 90

1. Adjust the roll connector. Refer to «ADJUSTMENT»(ref-565203-S35151865132013071000000) .
2. Set the roll connector to the central position.
3. Check the resistance between each connector under the following conditions: Measure the resistance with the roll connector at the center position (the front wheels in straight-ahead position). Turn the roll connector counterclockwise from the center position (with the front wheels in straight-ahead position) until it stops, and then measure the resistance while turning the connector clockwise by approximately 2.5 turns.
