CAUTION

  1. Wear working clothing, including a cap, protective goggles, and protective shoes during operation.
  2. Remove contamination including dirt and corrosion before removal, installation or disassembly.
  3. Keep the disassembled parts in order and protect them from dust or dirt.
  4. Before removal, installation or disassembly, be sure to clarify the failure. Avoid unnecessary removal, installation, disassembly and replacement.
  5. Be careful not to burn your hands, because each part on the vehicle is hot after running.
  6. Use SUBARU genuine steering fluid, grease etc. or the equivalent. Do not mix steering fluid, grease etc. with that of another grade or from other manufacturers.
  7. Be sure to tighten fasteners including bolts and nuts to the specified torque.
  8. Place shop jacks or safety stands at the specified points.
  9. Apply steering fluid onto sliding or revolution surfaces before installation.
  10. Before installing O-rings or snap rings, apply sufficient amount of steering fluid to avoid damage and deformation.
  11. Before securing a part on a vise, place cushioning material such as wood blocks, aluminum plate, or shop cloth between the part and the vise.

  1. Disconnect the ground terminal from battery.
  2. Set the tires to straight-ahead position.
  3. Remove the airbag module. See «REMOVAL & INSTALLATION»(/subaru/impreza-wrx/gdgg-2002-2005/remont/airbag/#air-bag-restraint-systems__removal-installation) , Driver's Airbag Module. WARNING: Always refer to "Air Bag System" before performing airbag module service. See «AIR BAG SAFETY PRECAUTIONS»(/subaru/impreza-wrx/gdgg-2002-2005/remont/airbag/#air-bag-restraint-systems__air-bag-safety-precautions) , Driver's Airbag Module.
  4. Remove the steering wheel nut, and then draw out the steering wheel from the shaft using steering puller. NOTE: Make the matching marks on the steering wheel and steering column in advance.
