E: INSPECTION
- Inspect the removed parts by comparing with new ones for deformation, damage and wear. Repair or replace if defective.
- Confirm the select lever COMPL operating condition before assembling. Normal if it operates smoothly.

- Set the vehicle on a lift.
- Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
- Prior to removal, set the lever to "N" range.
- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Remove the front and center exhaust pipes. Non-turbo model REMOVAL Front Exhaust Pipe. > Turbo model REMOVAL Front Exhaust Pipe. >
- Remove the heat shield cover. (If equipped)
- Remove the snap ring from the range select lever. (Scheme 4): Identifying Snap Ring And Range Select Lever
- Remove the plate assembly from the transmission case. (Scheme 5): Identifying Plate Assembly
- Disconnect the select cable from select lever and then remove the cable bracket. (Scheme 6): Disconnecting Select Cable From Select Lever
- Remove the select cable from plate assembly.

- Install the select cable to plate assembly. Tightening torque: 18 N.m (1.8 kgf-m, 13.0 ft-lb)
- Install the select cable to select lever.
- Install the plate assembly to the transmission. Tightening torque: T: 24.5 N.m (2.5 kgf-m, 18.1 ft-lb) (Scheme 7): Identifying Select Cable And Select Lever
- Install the washer and snap pin to range select lever. (Scheme 8): Identifying Washer And Snap Pin
- Move the select lever to the "N" range, then adjust the select cable position. ADJUSTMENT Select Cable. >
- Install the heat shield cover. (If equipped)
- Install the front and center exhaust pipe. Non-turbo model INSTALLATION Front Exhaust Pipe. > Turbo model INSTALLATION Front Exhaust Pipe. >
C: INSPECTION
Check the removed cable and replace if damaged, rusty or having problems.
- Check the cable for smooth operation.
- Check the inner cable for damage and rust.
- Check the outer cable for damage, bends and cracks.
- Check the boot for damage, cracks and deterioration.
- Move the select lever from "P" to "1" range. Check the existence of feel to contact the detents in each range. If the detentes cannot be felt or the position pointer is improperly aligned, adjust the cable.

- Set the vehicle on a lift.
- Set the select lever to "N" range.
- Lift-up the vehicle.
- Remove the rear exhaust pipe and muffler.
- Remove the heat shield cover. (If equipped)
- Loosen the adjusting nuts on both sides. (Scheme 9): Identifying Adjusting Nuts
- Turn the adjusting nut B until it lightly touches the connector. (Scheme 10): Identifying Adjusting Nut
- Set a spanner wrench to adjusting nut B so that it does not rotate, and then tighten the adjusting nut A. Tightening torque: 7.5 N.m (0.76 kgf-m, 5.5 ft-lb) (Scheme 11): Setting Spanner Wrench To Adjusting Nut
- After completion of fitting, make sure that the select lever operates smoothly all across the operating range.
- Install in the reverse order of removal.
