CAUTION

  1. Before disassembling or reassembling parts, always disconnect the ground cable from battery. When repairing radio, control module, etc. which are provided with memory functions, record the memory contents before disconnecting the ground cable from battery. Otherwise, these contents are cancelled upon disconnection.
  2. Reassemble parts in the reverse order of disassembly procedure unless otherwise indicated.
  3. Adjust parts to specifications contained in this manual if so designated.
  4. Connect the connectors and hoses securely during reassembly.
  5. After reassembly, ensure all functional parts operate smoothly.
  6. Airbag system wiring harness is routed near the electrical parts and switch.
  7. All airbag system wiring harness and connectors are colored yellow. Do not use electrical test equipment on these circuits.
  8. Be careful not to damage the airbag system wiring harness when servicing the ignition key cylinder.

CHECK BATTERY DISCONNECT PROTECTION

  1. Remove the key from the ignition switch.
  2. Close all the doors and rear gate.
  3. Open the front hood.
  4. Press the LOCK/ARM button of the transmitter.
  5. Disconnect the ground cable from the battery.
  6. Reconnect the cable to the battery.
  7. Check that the security indicator light blinks after reconnecting the battery cable. If NG, replace the security control module.

  1. Remove the door trim. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-200811-S24361924552005102300000) , Front Door Trim.
  2. Remove the sealing cover. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-200812-S29696316242005102300000) , Front Sealing Cover.
  3. Remove a screw and two cables.
  4. Remove the front inner remote.

HOOD OPENER

Install in the reverse order of removal.

FUEL FLAP OPENER

Install in the reverse order of removal.

FRONT DOOR

  1. Remove the door trim. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-200811-S24361924552005102300000) , Front Door Trim.
  2. Pull back the sealing cover. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-200812-S29696316242005102300000) , Front Sealing Cover.
  3. Close the front door glass completely.
  4. Remove the rod clamp (A). Remove the lock plate (B). Replace the key cylinder.

Note. Be sure to replace the lock plate (B) with a new one.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove the glove box. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-200811-S42774016482005102300000) , Glove Box.
  3. Disconnect the connector from the security control module.
  4. Remove nuts (A) and cruise control module (B).
  5. Remove the security control module (C).

IMPACT SENSITIVITY

Note. Before adjustment, make sure the security control module has been securely installed on the bracket.

  1. Remove the security control module. Refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-200810-S15844136152005102300000) , Security Control Module.
  2. Adjust the sensitivity adjust screw in the security control module. NOTE: After adjusting, be sure to plug the adjust screw hole.
  3. Install the security control module.
  4. Perform the impact sensitivity test.

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove the nuts and then detach the security horn while disconnecting the connector.

TRANSMITTER BATTERY

Remove the battery from transmitter.

Note. To prevent static electricity damage to transmitter printed circuit board, touch the steel area of building with hand to discharge the static electricity carried on body or clothes before disassembling transmitter.

Install in the reverse order of removal.

Measure the voltage between battery (+) terminal and (-) terminal.

Note. Battery discharge occurs during measurement. Complete the measurement within 5 seconds. During battery voltage measurement, voltage falls more than 1.8 volts in 3 seconds period.

TRANSMITTER PROGRAMMING

Note. A maximum of four transmitters can be registered for each individual vehicle. When replacing or adding the transmitter (key), registration is also necessary. The Transmitter Programming Procedure must be started within 45 seconds of completing Entering Programming Mode .

The keyless entry system is equipped with a special code learning feature that allows the programming of new transmitter codes into the system or to delete old ones. The system can learn up to four unique transmitter codes. The four transmitter codes may be the same or different.

Entering Programming Mode

  1. Disarm the security system.
  2. Open the driver's door and sit in the driver's seat.
  3. Close the driver's door.
  4. Place the ignition key into the ignition switch and cycle the switch from LOCK to ON ten times within 15 seconds. Be sure to stop at the LOCK position. The horn will sound once to indicate that you are in the transmitter programming mode.

Transmitter Programming Procedure

  1. Open the driver's door.
  2. Close the driver's door.
  3. Press and release any button on the transmitter that you wish to program into the system.
  4. Horn will chirp two times to indicate that the transmitter has been programmed. NOTE: Repeat steps 1 through 3 for an additional transmitter.

Exiting Programming Mode

  1. Remove the ignition key from the ignition switch.
  2. The horn will chirp three times to indicate that the system has exited the programming mode.
  3. Check the keyless entry system properly operates by operating each transmitter.

Deleting Old Transmitter Codes

The control unit of the keyless entry system has four memory locations to store transmitter codes, giving it the ability to operate with up to four transmitters. When a transmitter is lost, the lost transmitter's code remains in the memory. For security reasons, lost transmitter codes should be deleted from the memory.

To delete old transmitter codes, program four transmitter codes into the system. If only one current transmitter is available, program it four times. If there are two current transmitters, program each one twice. If there are three current transmitters, program two of them once and the third one twice. This process will leave only current transmitter codes in the system's memory.
