Disassembly
- Using hub remover, support housing and hub securely. CAUTION: Be careful not to scratch polished area of hub. Be sure to install inner race on the side of outer race from which it was removed. (Scheme 27)
- Attach hub stand to housing and drive hub out. (Scheme 26) If inner bearing race remains in the hub, remove it with appropriate tool.
- Remove disc cover from housing. (Scheme 28) CAUTION: DO NOT use old oil seals.
- Using a standard screwdriver, remove outer and inner oil seals.
- Using flat bladed screwdriver, remove snap ring. (Scheme 29)
- Using housing stand, support housing securely. CAUTION: DO NOT remove outer race unless it is faulty. Discard outer race after removal. DO NOT replace inner or outer race separately; always replace as a unit.
- Using bearing remover, press inner race to drive out outer bearing. (Scheme 30) CAUTION: Be careful not to hammer hub bolts. This may deform hub.
- Using hub stand and a hydraulic press, drive hub bolts out. (Scheme 31)

Reassembly
- Securely attach hub to hub stand. (Scheme 32) CAUTION: Be sure to press hub bolts until their seating surfaces contact the hub. NOTE: Use.47" (12 mm) diameter holes in hub stand to prevent bolts from tilting.
- Using a hydraulic press, press new hub bolts into place.
- Clean dust or foreign particles from inside the housing. CAUTION: Always press outer race when installing bearing. Be careful not to remove plastic lock from inner race when installing bearing. Charge bearing with new grease when outer race is not removed.
- Using housing stand and bearing remover, press a new bearing into place. (Scheme 33) CAUTION: Make sure to install it firmly to groove.
- Using pliers, install snap ring in its groove. (Scheme 34)
- Using oil seal installer and housing stand, press inner oil seal until it contacts circlip. (Scheme 35)
- Invert housing stand.
- Using oil seal installer and housing stand, press outer oil seal until it contacts the bottom of housing. (Scheme 36) CAUTION: If specified grease is not available, remove bearing grease and apply Auto Rex A instead. DO NOT mix different types of grease.
- Apply sufficient grease to oil seal lip. Specified grease: SHELL 6459N
- Install disc cover to housing and the 3 bolts. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-167664-S36252250322004101900000).
- Attach hub to hub stand.
- Clean dust or foreign particles from the polished surface of hub.
- Using hub installer, press bearing into hub by driving inner race. (Scheme 37)

- Using a coil spring compressor, compress coil spring. (Scheme 38)
- Using strut mount socket, remove self-locking nut. (Scheme 39)
- Remove strut mount, upper spring seat and rubber seat from strut.
- Gradually decreasing compression force, and remove coil spring.
- Remove dust cover and helper spring.

Assembly
- Before installing coil spring, strut mount, etc., on the strut, check for the presence of air in the dampening force generating mechanism of the strut since air prevents proper dampening force from being produced.
- Checking for the presence of air Place the strut vertically with the piston rod facing up. Move the piston rod to the center of its entire stroke. While holding the piston rod end with fingertips, move the rod up and down. If the piston rod moves at least.39" (10 mm) in the former step, purge air from the strut. NOTE: After completely purging air from the strut, be sure to place the strut with the piston rod facing up. If it is laid down, check for entry of air in the strut as outlined under in step 2.
- Air purge procedure Place the strut vertically with the piston rod facing up. Fully extend the piston rod. With the piston rod fully extended, place the piston rod side down. The strut must stand vertically. Fully contract the piston rod. Repeat 3 or 4 times from step a. NOTE: Make sure that the vertical installing direction of coil spring is (Scheme 40)
- Using a coil spring compressor, compress the coil spring.
- Set the coil spring correctly so that its end face fits well into the spring seat. (Scheme 41)
- Install a helper and dust cover to the piston rod. NOTE: Ensure that upper spring seat is positioned (Scheme 42)
- Pull the piston rod fully upward, and install rubber seat and spring seat. CAUTION: Be sure to use a new self-locking nut.
- Install strut mount to the piston rod, and tighten the self-locking nut temporarily.
- Using a hexagon wrench to prevent strut rod from turning, tighten self-locking nut with strut mount socket. (Scheme 39)
