Inspection

  1. Move brake and clutch pedal pads in the lateral direction with a force of 2 lbs. (10 N) to ensure pedal deflection is in specified range. See «ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162994-S18187322712004061600000). NOTE: If excessive deflection is noted, replace bushings with NEW ones.
  2. Check position of pedal pad. (Scheme 3) See «ADJUSTMENT SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162994-S18187322712004061600000).
  3. If it is not in specified value, adjust it by adjusting brake booster operating rod length.

Scheme 3

Scheme 3
  1. Install disc rotor by tightening 5 wheel nuts.
  2. Set a dial gauge on the disc rotor. Turn the disc rotor to check runout. (Scheme 4) NOTE: Make sure dial gauge is set 0.2" (5 mm) inward of rotor outer perimeter. If runout of disc rotor exceeds 0.003" (0.075 mm), check for abnormal free play at hub bearing and runout in the thrust direction. See steps A - C. If hub bearing is okay, replace disc rotor. Inspect rattle of bearing, give tires a shake with grasping both upper and lower sides of the tire. Also inspect to rotate the wheel smoothly. Inspect the lean of axis direction using a dial gauge. Replace hub bearing if the load range exceeds 0.002" (0.05 mm). CAUTION: If bearing is faulty, replace it as a bearing set. Be sure to replace oil seal at every overhaul. Inspect removed parts for wear and damage. If defective, replace with NEW ones.
  3. Measure disc rotor thickness. see scheme 9 See «FRONT DISC BRAKE SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162994-S02319968592004061600000) table under DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS. If thickness of disc rotor is below 0.003" (0.075 mm), replace disc rotor.

Scheme 4

Scheme 4
  1. Set dial gauge on disc rotor. Turn disc rotor to check runout. (Scheme 5) NOTE: Securely adjust the disc rotor to hub. Make sure dial gauge is set to 0.2" (5 mm) inward of rotor outer perimeter.
  2. If runout of disc exceeds the limit, check for abnormal free play at the hub bearing and runout in the thrust direction. See «REAR DISC BRAKE SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162994-S32847438122004061600000) table under DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS. See INSPECTION under REAR AXLE under REMOVAL & INSTALLATION in appropriate REAR AXLE SHAFTS article under DRIVELINE/AXLES.
  3. If hub bearing is okay, replace the disc rotor.
  4. Measure disc rotor thickness. see scheme 17 If thickness of disc rotor is below runout limit, replace the disc rotor. See «REAR DISC BRAKE SERVICE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-162994-S32847438122004061600000) table under DISC BRAKE SPECIFICATIONS. NOTE: Make sure dial gauge is set to 0.2" (5 mm) inward of rotor outer perimeter.
