Starters: Removal & Installation Subaru Baja I

Removal

  1. Disconnect ground cable from battery.
  2. Remove air cleaner case for non-turbo model. See «AIR CLEANER CASE»(ref-167711-S23664579662004102000000).
  3. Remove intercooler for turbo model. See «INTERCOOLER»(ref-167711-S18468998952004102000000).
  4. Remove air cleaner case stay. (Scheme 9)
  5. Disconnect connector and terminal from starter. (Scheme 10)
  6. Remove starter from transmission.

Installation

Install in the reverse order of removal. Tighten bolts to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .

Removal & Installation

  1. Disconnect the ground cable from battery.
  2. Disconnect the connector (A) of intake air temperature sensor.
  3. Remove the bolts (B) which install air cleaner case to stay. (Scheme 11)
  4. Disconnect the hoses and intake duct from air cleaner case.
  5. Loosen the clamp which connects air cleaner case to throttle body. (Scheme 12)
  6. Remove the air cleaner case.
  7. Install in the reverse order removal.

  1. Disconnect PCV hose from PCV pipe. (Scheme 13)
  2. Remove PCV pipe from intercooler. (Scheme 14)
  3. Disconnect hose from air bypass valve. (Scheme 15)
  4. Remove bolt which secure intercooler to bracket. (Scheme 16)
  5. Loosen clamp (A) which connects turbocharger and intercooler duct. (Scheme 17)
  6. Loosen clamp (B) which connects throttle body and intercooler.
  7. Disconnect intercooler duct from turbocharger.
  8. Remove intercooler from throttle body.

Install in the reverse order of removal. (Scheme 16)
