- Disconnect negative battery cable. Drain coolant. Remove air cleaner assembly. Remove PCV valve. Release fuel pressure. See «FUEL PRESSURE RELEASE»(ref-1450-S39821245792000031300000) . Disconnect fuel supply and return lines. Disconnect throttle cable from throttle body. Remove throttle cable bracket.
- Disconnect engine wiring harness from fuel injectors, Throttle Position (TP) sensor, Idle Air Control (IAC), Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor and EGR valve. Disconnect heater hose at intake manifold. Remove intake manifold support bracket (DOHC). Remove accessory drive belt. Remove power steering pump, and position it aside (leave hoses attached). Remove intake manifold nuts. Remove intake manifold.
Installation
Install NEW intake manifold gasket. Install intake manifold. Tighten nuts to specification in proper sequence. (Scheme 5)or (Scheme 6). See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS table. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.

Raise and support vehicle. Disconnect exhaust pipe from manifold. Lower vehicle. Remove A/C compressor (leave hoses connected) and rear bracket. Disconnect oxygen sensor connector. Remove oxygen sensor (if necessary). Remove exhaust manifold nuts. Remove exhaust manifold.
Install NEW exhaust manifold gasket with smooth side toward manifold. Install exhaust manifold. Tighten nuts to specification. (Scheme 7)or (Scheme 8). See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS. To complete installation, reverse removal procedure.
