Seat System: Removal & Installation Saturn ION I

Removal Procedure

1. Position the bucket seat forward in order to gain access to the seat adjuster bolts.
2. Remove the bolts.
3. Disconnect the seat belt wire harness on the driver side.
4. Tilt the seat forward and lift the seat to disengage the front adjuster hooks.
5. On the coupe, remove the seat belt webbing from the guides.
6. Remove the bucket seat.

Installation Procedure

1. Pull up on the adjuster handle of the bucket seat and slide the adjuster tracks fully forward.
2. Position the seat in the vehicle.
3. Tilt the seat forward and slide the front adjuster hooks into the slots in the floor pan.
4. Connect the seat belt wire harness on the driver side.
5. Position the seat fully forward to gain access to the seat adjuster.
6. Install the rear adjuster bolts. Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 50 N.m (37 lb ft).
7. On the coupe, install the seat belt webbing into the guides.
8. Inspect the seat adjusters for proper operation.

1. Remove the front seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the seat side trim. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
3. Remove the seat adjuster handle by squeezing the bars toward the center of the seat.
4. On vehicles equipped with 4-way adjusters, raise the driver side seat cushion.
5. Remove the attaching bolts from the seat cushion frame.
6. Disconnect the J hook retainers from the seat cushion cover.
7. Remove the seat cushion cover and pad assembly from the seat cushion frame.

1. Install the seat cushion cover and pad assembly onto the seat cushion frame.
2. Connect the J hook retainers.
3. Install the attaching bolts to the seat cushion frame. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
4. Install the seat adjuster handle.
5. Install the seat side trim. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
6. Install the front seat to the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Remove the seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Position the seat back in the upright position.
3. Remove the outer trim panel from the seat back recliner. Refer to «Seat Back Recliner Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S08171157452005101000000) .
4. Remove the outer trim panel. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
5. Remove the seat adjuster handle by squeezing the both sides toward the center of the seat.
6. Disconnect the rear J-hook retainer.
7. Remove the fold-flat cable from the hook in the seat cushion frame.
8. Remove the seat cushion frame bolts.
9. Remove the cushion and frame assembly from the seat.
10. Disconnect the remaining J-hook retainers.
11. Remove the trim and pad assembly from the seat cushion frame.

Scheme 1

1. Install the seat cushion pad and trim assembly to the frame.
2. Connect the front and the side J-hook retainers.
3. Install the seat cushion assembly to the seat.
4. Install the seat cushion frame bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
5. Install the fold-flat cable into the hook in the cushion frame.
6. Install the rear J-hook retainer.
7. Install the seat adjuster handle.
8. Install the seat side trim. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
9. Install the outer trim panel to the seat back recliner. Refer to «Seat Back Recliner Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S08171157452005101000000) .
10. Install the seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Remove the front seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the outer trim panel from the seat back recliner. Refer to «Seat Back Recliner Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S08171157452005101000000) .
3. Remove the screws from the outer trim panel of the front bucket seat cushion.
4. Remove the outer trim panel from the seat.

1. Install the outer trim panel to the front bucket seat cushion.
2. Install the screws to the outer trim panel. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
3. Install the outer trim panel to the seat back recliner. Refer to «Seat Back Recliner Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S08171157452005101000000) .
4. Install the front seat to the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Remove the front seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the recliner handle by pulling firmly on the handle.
3. For vehicles equipped with 4-way adjustable seats, remove the riser trim handle on the driver side by pulling the handle.
4. Remove the screws from the outer trim panel of the front bucket seat cushion.
5. Remove the outer trim panel.

1. Install the outer trim panel to the front bucket seat cushion.
2. Install the screws to the outer trim panel of the front bucket seat cushion. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
3. For vehicles equipped with 4-way adjustable seats, install the riser trim handle on the driver side by pushing the handle.
4. Install the recliner handle by pushing firmly on the handle.
5. Install the front seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Remove the front seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the trim panel from the inner seat back recliner. Refer to «Seat Back Recliner Inner Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S00529362692005101000000) .
3. Remove the screw from the inner trim panel of the seat cushion.
4. Remove the trim panel from the seat adjuster.

1. Install the inner trim panel to the seat adjuster.
2. Install the screw to the inner trim panel. Tighten: Tighten the screw to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
3. Install the trim panel to the inner seat back recliner. Refer to «Seat Back Recliner Inner Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S00529362692005101000000) .
4. Install the front seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Remove the front seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Position the seat back to the full upright position.
3. Remove the outer trim panel from the seat back recliner. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
4. For vehicles equipped with lumbar support, perform the following procedure: Adjust the lumbar knob until the lumbar basket is in the position of least support. Remove the lumbar knob by pulling firmly.
5. Disconnect the J hook retainers from the seat cushion trim cover.
6. Carefully pull the trim cover out from between the seat back and cushion, and from between the seat cushion and the adjusters.
7. Remove the trim cover and pad from the seat.
8. Carefully remove the cover from the pad by disengaging the hook and loop fasteners.

1. Place the trim cover over the pad. Install the cover by pressing on the hook and loop locations.
2. Install the pad and the trim cover on the seat.
3. Connect the J hook retainers. Ensure that the rear J clip material flap is over the fold-flat cable.
4. If the seat is equipped with lumbar support, perform the following procedure: Pull the lumbar cable sleeve forward. Using a sharp-bladed tool, make a small slit where the lumbar actuator comes in contact with the cover. Install the lumbar knob by pushing firmly. Adjust the lumbar knob to ensure that the lumbar is operating correctly.
5. Install the front seat to the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Remove the seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the front seat side trim. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
3. For vehicles with 4-way driver seats, raise the seat cushion.
4. For vehicles equipped with lumbar support, perform the following procedure: Adjust the lumbar knob until the lumbar basket is in the position of least support. Remove the lumbar knob by pulling firmly.
5. Disconnect the J-hook retainers from the seat cushion trim cover.
6. Carefully pull the trim cover out from between the cushion and the seat back and the adjusters.
7. Remove the trim cover and pad from the seat cushion.
8. Carefully remove the trim cover from the pad by disengaging the hook and loop retainers.

1. Install the seat cushion trim cover on the pad.
2. Apply pressure over the hook and loop retainers to secure the retainers.
3. Install the trim and pad on the seat cushion frame.
4. Push the seat cushion trim cover between the cushion and the seat back and the adjusters.
5. Connect the J-hook retainers.
6. If the seat is equipped with lumbar support, perform the following procedure: Pull the lumbar cable sleeve forward. Using a sharp-bladed tool, make a small slit where the lumbar actuator comes in contact with the cover. Install the lumbar knob by pushing firmly. Adjust the lumbar knob to ensure that the lumbar is operating correctly.
7. Install the seat side trim cover. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
8. Install the front seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Remove the seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the front seat head restraint. Refer to «Head Restraint Replacement - Front Seat»(ref-196986-S39459619812005101000000) .
3. Remove the outer trim panel from the front seat cushion. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
4. Position the seat back forward to expose the lower J-hook retainer on the seat back trim cover.
5. Disconnect the J-hook retainer.
6. Position the seat back rearward and pull the trim cover out from between the seat back and the cushion.
7. Pull the seat back trim cover up. Carefully disengage the hook and loop retainers until the head restraint guides are exposed.
8. Remove the guides from the seat back by squeezing the locking tabs. Pull the guides from the seat back.
9. Pull the trim cover up and off of the seat back.
10. Lift the seat back pad off of the frame.

1. Install the seat back pad on the frame.
2. Install the trim cover over the top of the seat.
3. Install the head restraint guides by pushing the guides through the seat back trim cover, the pad, and the frame until you engage the locking tabs.
4. Continue to install the seat back trim cover, pressing over the hook and loop locations to ensure that all the fasteners engage.
5. Push the trim cover between the seat back and the cushion.
6. Install the lower J-hook retainer at the seat trim cover.
7. Install the front seat head restraint. Refer to «Head Restraint Replacement - Front Seat»(ref-196986-S39459619812005101000000) .
8. Install the outer trim panel from the front seat cushion. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
9. Install the seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Remove the front seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the front seat head restraint. Refer to «Head Restraint Replacement - Front Seat»(ref-196986-S39459619812005101000000) .
3. Remove the screws from the trim cover over the outboard seat back recliner.
4. Remove the outboard trim cover from the side of the seat.
5. Remove the screws from the trim cover over the inboard seat back recliner.
6. Remove the inboard trim cover.
7. Remove the screws from the outer trim panel of the seat cushion.
8. Remove the outer trim panel.
9. Position the seat in the fold flat position.
10. Remove the screws from the seat back panel.
11. Remove the panel from the seat back.
12. Remove the bolts holding the seat back to the recliners.
13. Remove the seat back from between the recliners.
14. Disconnect the J hook retainer along the rear edge of the seat back.
15. Lift the seat back trim cover to expose the center J-hook retainer. Disconnect the J-hook retainer.
16. Lift the seat back cover up, carefully disengaging the hook and loop fasteners until you expose the head restraint guides.
17. Press the locking tabs and remove the head restraint guides from the seat frame.
18. Lift the trim cover off of the seat back.
19. Remove the seat back pad from the frame.

1. Position the seat back pad on the frame.
2. Install the trim cover over the top of the seat back.
3. Install the head restraint guides by pushing the guides into the frame until the locking tabs engage.
4. Continue to install the seat back trim cover, pressing over the hook and loop locations to ensure that the fasteners engage.
5. Install the center J-hook retainer.
6. Connect the lower J-hook retainer.
7. Position the seat back between the recliners.
8. Install the seat back frame bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
9. Install the seat back panel.
10. Install the screws to the seat back panel. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
11. Position the outer trim panel to the seat cushion.
12. Install the trim panel screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
13. Install the trim cover to the outboard seat back recliner.
14. Install the trim cover screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
15. Install the trim cover to the inboard seat back recliner.
16. Install the trim cover screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
17. Install the front seat head restraint. Refer to «Head Restraint Replacement - Front Seat»(ref-196986-S39459619812005101000000) .
18. Install the front seat to the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

Seat Back Frame Replacement - Front (Fold Flat)

The seat back frame is exposed after you remove the seat back trim cover and the pad. Refer to Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Non-Fold Flat) or Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Fold Flat) .

1. Remove the seat back cover and pad. Refer to «Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S40209484212005101000000) or «Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S00827562872005101000000) .
2. If the seat is equipped with lumbar support, perform the following procedure: Adjust the lumbar knob until the lumbar basket is in the position of least support. Pull back on the lumbar cable sleeve.
3. Adjust the seat back position until the notches in the seat back frame line up with the springs.
4. Using a suitable tool, carefully slide the springs into the notches. Ensure that the springs are completely engaged in the slots.
5. Adjust the seat back forward to allow the springs to be lifted from the impact tube.
6. Remove the recliner handle spring.
7. Remove the recliner handle bolt.
8. Remove the recliner handle.
9. Remove the nuts from the outboard seat back frame.
10. Remove the teardrop washer bolt.
11. Remove the teardrop washer from the seat.
12. Remove the nuts from the inboard seat back frame.
13. Lift the seat back frame out from between the adjusters.

1. Position the seat back frame between the adjusters. Ensure that the locator tabs are properly seated in both adjusters.
2. Install the nuts to the inboard seat back frame. Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
3. Install the teardrop washer.
4. Install the nuts to the outboard seat back frame. Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).
5. Install the teardrop washer bolt. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 35 N.m (26 lb ft).
6. Install the recliner handle.
7. Install the recliner handle bolt. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
8. Install the recliner handle spring.
9. Adjust the seat back forward until the frame springs catch on the impact tube.
10. If the seat is equipped with lumbar support, perform the following procedure: Pull back on the lumbar cable sleeve. Install the barrel end of the cable to the lumbar actuator. Adjust the lumbar knob to ensure that the cable is properly installed.
11. Install the seat back cover and pad. Refer to «Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S40209484212005101000000) or «Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S00827562872005101000000) .

1. Remove the screws from the outer trim panel of the seat back recliner.
2. Remove the outer trim panel from the seat back recliner.

1. Install the outer trim panel to the seat back recliner.
2. Install the screws to the outer trim panel. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in)

1. Remove the front seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the screws from the inner trim panel of the seat back recliner.
3. Remove the inner trim panel from the seat back recliner.

1. Install the inner trim panel to the seat back recliner.
2. Install the screws to the inner trim panel. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in)
3. Install the front seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Remove the front seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the screws from the recliner trim on the inner and the outer seat back.
3. Remove the trim panels from the inner and the outer seat back recliner.
4. Remove the outer trim panel from the seat cushion. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
5. Remove the screw from the seat cushion inner trim panel.
6. Remove the trim panel.
7. Remove the bolts from the seat back frame.
8. Remove the seat back from between the recliners.
9. Remove the seat adjuster handle by squeezing both sides toward the center of the seat.
10. Remove the rearmost J-hook retainer from the seat cushion trim cover.
11. Remove the seat cushion frame bolts.
12. Remove the seat cushion frame, pad, and cover assembly from between the adjusters.
13. Pry the threaded, inboard end of the recliner cable from the retaining clips.
14. Remove the bolt from the seat belt buckle.
15. Remove the buckle from the side of the seat.
16. Remove the inside bolt that attaches the inboard recliner assembly to the adjuster.
17. Remove the inboard recliner.
18. Remove the outboard side of the recliner cable from the retaining clip.
19. Remove the outboard recliner bolts.
20. Remove the outboard recliner from the adjuster.

1. Install the outboard recliner to the adjuster.
2. Install the outboard recliner bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
3. Install the inboard recliner to the adjuster.
4. Install the inside inboard recliner bolt. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
5. Install the seat belt buckle to the side of the seat.
6. Install the seat belt buckle bolt. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
7. Install the outboard side of the recliner cable.
8. Install the inboard side of the recliner cable.
9. Turn the threaded end in the retaining clip until you remove the slack from the cable.
10. Install the seat cushion frame, pad, and trim cover assembly between the adjusters.
11. Install the bolts to the seat cushion frame. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
12. Install the rear J hook retainer to the seat cushion trim. Ensure that the recliner cable is beneath the material flap of the trim cover.
13. Install the seat adjuster handle by squeezing the sides toward the center of the seat.
14. Install the seat back between the recliners.
15. Install the seat back frame bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
16. Install the seat cushion inner trim panel.
17. Install the screw to the inner trim panel. Tighten: Tighten the screw to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
18. Install the seat cushion outer trim panel. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
19. Install the trim panels to the inner and the outer seat back recliner.
20. Install the screws to recliner trim panels. Tighten: Tighten the screw to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
21. Install the front seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

Pull to remove the recliner trim handle from the recliner handle.

Scheme 2

1. Position the recliner trim handle over the recliner handle.
2. Push on the handle to install the handle in place.

1. Remove the front seat from the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
2. Remove the seat adjuster handle by squeezing both sides toward the center of the seat.
3. Remove the rearmost J-hook retainer from the seat cushion trim cover.
4. Remove the bolts from the seat cushion frame.
5. Remove the seat cushion frame, pad, and cover assembly from between the adjusters.
6. Remove the threaded, inboard end of the recliner cable from the retaining clips.
7. Remove the outboard side of the recliner cable from the retaining clip.

1. Install the outboard side of the recliner cable.
2. Install the inboard side of the recliner cable.
3. Turn the threaded end in the retaining clip until you have removed the slack from the cable.
4. Install the seat cushion frame, pad, and trim cover assembly between the adjusters.
5. Install the bolts to the seat cushion frame. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
6. Install the rear J hook retainer. Ensure that the cable is beneath the material flap on the trim cover.
7. Install the seat adjuster handle.
8. Install the front seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .

1. Position the seat back in the fold flat position.
2. Remove the screws from the seat back trim panel.
3. Slide the trim panel rearward to disengage the top hook from the seat back.
4. Remove the trim panel from the seat.

1. Position the trim panel to the seat back. Ensure that the top hook is engaged in the seat back.
2. Install the screws to the trim panel Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
3. Raise the seat back to the upright position.

1. Remove the seat back pad and cover. Refer to «Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S40209484212005101000000) or «Seat Back Cover and Pad Replacement - Front (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S00827562872005101000000) .
2. Adjust the lumbar knob until the lumbar is at the position of the least support.
3. Remove the lumbar cable end from the lumbar unit by compressing the unit while lifting out the barrel end of the cable assembly.
4. Using a flat-bladed tool, twist out the upper portion of the lumbar unit from the seat frame cross wire.
5. Remove the lower portion of the lumbar unit from the seat cross wire.
6. Remove the lumbar unit.

1. Install the lumbar unit to the lower portion of the seat back cross wire.
2. Position the lumbar unit to the upper portion of the cross wire. Using a flat-bladed tool, twist the lumbar unit over the cross wire assembly.
3. Compress the lumbar unit and connect the cable barrel end to the lumbar unit.
4. Adjust the lumbar unit to ensure proper operation.

2. Remove the lumbar cable from the actuator: Adjust the knob until the lumbar basket is in the position of least support. Pull back on the lumbar cable sleeve. Remove the barrel end of the cable from the lumbar actuator.
3. Remove the lumbar knob by pulling firmly on the knob.
4. Drill out the rivets from the lumbar actuator, if necessary.
5. Remove the lumbar actuator screws.

12. Remove the outside bolt which attaches the outboard recliner to the adjuster.
13. Remove the inside bolt which attaches the outboard recliner to the adjuster.
14. Remove the outboard adjuster.
15. Remove the seat belt buckle bolt.
16. Remove the seat belt buckle.
17. Remove the inside bolt which attaches the inboard recliner to the adjuster.
18. Remove the inboard adjuster.

1. Install the inboard adjuster to the seat recliner.
2. Install the inside bolt to the inboard recliner. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
3. Install the outboard adjuster to the seat recliner.
4. Install the outside recliner bolt. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
5. Install the inside recliner bolt. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
6. Install the seat belt buckle to the seat.
7. Install the bolt to the seat belt buckle. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
8. Install the seat cushion frame.
9. Install the bolts to the seat cushion assembly. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
10. Install the fold-flat cable into the hook in the seat cushion frame.
11. Install the rear J-hook retainer to the seat cushion trim cover. Ensure that the material flap is over the fold-flat cable.
12. Install the seat adjuster handle.
13. Install the inner trim panel to the seat cushion.
14. Install the inner trim panel screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
15. Install the inner trim panel to the seat back recliner.
16. Install the inner trim panel screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
17. Install the outer trim panel to the seat cushion.
18. Install the trim panel screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
19. Install the outer trim panel to the seat back recliner.
20. Install the trim panel screws. Tighten: Tighten the screws to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
21. Install the seat in the vehicle. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
22. Verify the seat adjusters for proper operation.

3. Position the seat back forward.
4. Disconnect the J-hook retainer at the bottom of the front seat back.
5. Disconnect the J-hook retainer on the inboard side of the seat.
6. Recline the seat back.
7. Remove the seat back trim cover from between the seat back and the cushion.
8. Raise the seat back trim cover enough to expose the lower seat back frame and recliner springs.
9. Adjust the seat back position until the notches in the seat back frame line up with the seat back springs.
10. Using a suitable tool, carefully slide the springs into the notches. Ensure that the springs are completely engaged in the slots.
11. Adjust the seat back forward to allow the springs to be lifted from the impact tube.
12. Remove the recliner handle spring.
13. Remove the recliner handle screw.
14. Remove the recliner handle.
15. Remove the nuts from the outboard seat belt frame.
16. Remove the teardrop washer bolt.
17. Remove the teardrop washer from the seat.
18. Remove the nuts from the inboard seat back frame.
19. Lift the seat back out from between the seat adjusters.
20. On the 4-way driver seats, raise the seat cushion to the highest position.
21. Remove the seat adjuster handle by squeezing the both sides toward the center of the seat.
22. Remove the bolts from the seat cushion frame. Disconnect the rosebud fastener which holds the driver seat belt buckle wiring to the cushion frame.
23. Remove the seat cushion assembly from the seat.
24. Remove the bolt from the seat belt buckle.
25. Remove the seat belt buckle from the inboard adjuster.
26. Remove the bolt from the impact tube.
27. Remove the impact tube from between the adjusters.
28. On the 4-way driver seats, remove the seat cushion riser bar.

1. Install the impact tube between the adjusters.
2. Install the bolt to the impact tube. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
3. On the 4-way driver seat, install the seat cushion riser bar.
4. Install the seat belt buckle to the inboard seat adjuster.
5. Install the bolt to the seat belt buckle. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 45 N.m (33 lb ft).
6. Position the seat cushion assembly between the adjusters.
7. Install the bolts to the seat cushion frame. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
8. Install the rosebud fastener, holding the driver seat belt buckle wiring harness to the cushion frame.
9. Install the seat adjuster handle.
10. Install the seat back between the adjusters. Ensure that the locator tabs are properly seated in both adjusters.
11. Install the nuts to the inboard seat back frame. Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 25 N.m (18 lb ft).
12. Install the teardrop washer.
13. Install the nuts to the outboard seat back frame. Tighten: Tighten the nuts to 17 N.m (13 lb ft).
14. Install the teardrop washer bolt. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 35 N.m (26 lb ft).
15. Install the recliner handle.
16. Install the recliner handle bolt. Tighten: Tighten the bolt to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
17. Install the recliner handle spring.
18. Adjust the seat back forward until the seat back frame springs catch on the impact bar.
19. Lower the seat back trim cover.
20. Connect the trim cover J-hook retainers.
21. Install the seat cushion side trim. Refer to «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S34496290472005101000000) or «Seat Cushion Outer Trim Panel Replacement - Front Seat (Non-Fold Flat)»(ref-196986-S27598980042005101000000) .
22. Install the driver seat. Refer to «Seat Replacement - Front Bucket»(ref-196986-S39525070032005101000000) .
23. Verify the seat adjusters for proper operation.

Pull to remove the adjuster trim handle from the adjuster handle.

1. Position the adjuster trim handle over the adjuster handle.
2. Push on the handle to install the handle in place.

1. Press the head restraint guide button and raise the head restraint to the highest position.
2. Remove the head restraint by inserting a small awl in the guide holes and lifting up on the restraint.

1. Position the head restraint above the seat back.
2. Push the restraint into the guide as far as the restraint will go.

7. Pull the seat back cover up. Carefully disengage the hook and loop and retainers until the head restraint guides are exposed.
8. Squeeze the head restraint locking tabs.
9. Pull the guides up and out of the seat back frame, the pad, and the trim cover.

1. Install the head restraint guides by pushing the guides into the seat back trim cover, the pad, and the frame. Push until you engage the locking tabs.
2. Install the seat back trim cover. Press over the hook and loop fasteners to ensure that the fasteners engage.
3. Push the trim cover between the seat back and the cushion.
4. Install the trim cover J-hook retainer.

3. Install the center J-hook retainer.

5. Position the seat back between the recliners.
6. Install the seat back frame bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 60 N.m (44 lb ft).
7. Install the seat back panel.
8. Install the screws to the seat back panel. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
9. Install the outer trim panel to the seat cushion.
10. Install the outer trim panel screws. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 1 N.m (9 lb in).
11. Install the trim panels to the inboard and the outboard seat back recliners.
12. Install the trim panel screws. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 1 N.m (9 lb in).

1. Remove the push-in fastener from the rear seat center console.

4. Remove the rear seat cushion.

1. Position the rear seat cushion in the vehicle.
2. Lift the rear seat center console and pull the seat belt buckles through the pockets between the seat cushion and the console.
3. Install the rear seat cushion by pushing rearward and down until the cushion engages in the floor pan tabs.
4. Push down on the center console.
5. Install the center console push-in fastener.

1. Push rearward on the front edge of the seat cushion, then lift up to disengage the frame from the floor pan locking tabs.
2. Remove the seat cushion from the vehicle.

3. Remove the rosebud fastener which retains the latch cable to the rear compartment shelf.
4. Remove the latch bolts.
5. Remove the grommet from the sheet metal.
6. Pull the latch assembly into the passenger compartment.
7. Remove the latch assembly from the vehicle.

1. Install the latch assembly.
2. Feed the cable and the release handle through the sheet metal to the rear compartment.
3. Install the rear seat back latch bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 12 N.m (106 lb in).
4. Install the grommet.
5. Install the rosebud fastener to the latch assembly cable.
6. Install the release handle and engage the handle in the clip.
7. Install the garnish molding to the lower lock pillar. Refer to «Garnish Molding Replacement - Lock Pillar Lower»(ref-196949-S34824073122005101000000) .

1. Unlatch the rear seat back by pulling the release handle in the trunk.
2. Fold the rear seat back forward.
3. Using a large screwdriver, press the tab to release the outboard side of the seat back.
4. Lift the outboard corner of the seat back up to remove it from the lower anchor assembly.
5. Slide the seat back off the center pivot pin of the lower anchor assembly.

1. Slide the seat back on to the center pivot pin of the lower anchor assembly.
2. Press down on the outboard corner of the seat back until the seat back snaps into the locking tab on the lower anchor assembly.
3. Raise the seat back.
4. Push the seat back over the latch locations until the seat back engages. Pull up on the seat back to ensure that the latch has engaged.
5. Inspect the seat belts for proper operation.
