Shift Lock Control System: Removal & Installation Saturn Astra I

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front floor console. Refer to «Front Floor Console Replacement»(ref-302290-S10871999652008102100000) .
  2. Remove the selector actuator cable (2) from the selector lever. Remove the retaining clamp (1). Disconnect the selector lever from the bracket.
  3. Remove the selector lever assembly. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (1). Remove the 4 bolts (2). Remove the selector lever assembly.
  4. Remove the 2 shift lock actuator from the selector lever assembly. Remove the bolt (1). IMPORTANT: Note the configuration of cables. Disconnect the 4 wiring plugs from the shift lock actuator.
  5. Remove the 2 shift lock actuator (1) from the bracket (2). Carefully bend the 2 lock outward. Remove the 2 shift lock actuator with the spacer plate (3).

Installation Procedure

  1. Install the 2 shift lock actuator (1) to the bracket (2). Insert the 2 shift lock actuator with the spacer plate (3). The 2 locks must engage.
  2. Install the 2 shift lock actuator to the selector lever assembly. Connect the 4 wiring plugs to the shift lock actuator. Tighten: Tighten the bolt (1).
  3. Install the selector lever assembly. Insert the selector lever assembly. Tighten: Tighten the 4 bolts (2) to 5 N.m (44 lb in). Connect the wiring harness plug (1).
  4. Install the selector actuator cable (2) to the selector lever. Install the selector lever to the bracket. Install the retaining clamp (1).
  5. Install the front floor console. Refer to «Front Floor Console Replacement»(ref-302290-S10871999652008102100000) .
  6. Check the selector lever safety functions.
  7. For reprogramming procedures, refer to «Control Module References»(ref-302291-S24032387652008102100000) .
  1. Remove the front floor console. Refer to «Front Floor Console Replacement»(ref-302290-S10871999652008102100000) .
  2. Remove the selector linkage (2) from the selector lever. Remove the retaining clamp (1). Disconnect the selector lever from the bracket.
  3. Remove the selector lever assembly. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (1). Remove the 4 bolts (2). Remove the selector lever assembly.
  4. Remove the lock control solenoid selector lever lock (2). IMPORTANT: Note the configuration of cables. Disconnect the 2 wiring plugs (1) from the lock control solenoid. Remove the 2 bolts (3). Remove the lock control solenoid from the selector lever lock.
  1. Install the lock control solenoid for the selector lever lock (2). Insert the lock control solenoid for the selector lever lock. Tighten: Tighten the 2 bolts (3) to 4 N.m (35 lb in). Connect the 2 wiring plugs (1) to the lock control solenoid.
  2. Install the selector lever assembly. Insert the selector lever assembly. Tighten: Tighten 4 bolts (2) 5 N.m (44 lb in). Connect the wiring harness plug (1).
  3. Install the selector linkage (2) to the selector lever. Install the selector lever to the bracket. Install the retaining clamp (1).
  4. Install the front floor console. Refer to «Front Floor Console Replacement»(ref-302290-S10871999652008102100000) .
  5. Check the selector lever safety functions.
  6. For reprogramming procedures, refer to «Control Module References»(ref-302291-S24032387652008102100000) .

The automatic transmission shift lock control system is a safety device that prevents an inadvertent shift out of PARK when the engine is running. The driver must press the brake pedal before moving the shift lever out of the PARK position. The system consists of the following components

  1. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid
  2. The park lock relay
  3. The stop lamp switch

With the ignition in the ON position, the transmission control module supplies ignition voltage to the automatic transmission park interlock relay. The relay coil is permanently grounded. When the relay is energized, the brake applied voltage signal continues to the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. The automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid is also permanently grounded. This energizes the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid allowing the transmission shift lever to be moved from the PARK position. When the brake pedal is released, the contacts in the stop lamp switch open, de-energizing the automatic transmission shift lock control solenoid. This locks the shift lever in the PARK position.
