Scheme 1: SERVICE INDICATOR & WARNING LIGHTS

BRAKE FLUID WARNING LIGHT

Light indicates low brake fluid level in the master cylinder reservoir. Stop vehicle and check brake fluid reservoir if light comes on while driving. Add brake fluid as necessary and have the system checked and serviced immediately. If light blinks on and off, it indicates that the brake pads may need replacement. DO NOT continue driving if further trouble is experienced.

ANTI-LOCK BRAKE WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)

If light comes on while driving, it indicates a possible defect in the anti-lock braking system. Have the system checked and serviced promptly. The regular braking system will still operate normally, but without anti-lock function.

CAUTIONDO NOT continue to operate vehicle if both Brake Fluid and Anti-Lock warning lights are illuminated at the same time.

OIL PRESSURE WARNING LIGHT

Light indicates low oil pressure, but does not indicate amount of oil in the engine. Stop vehicle, turn off engine and check oil level if light comes on while driving. DO NOT continue to drive vehicle if light comes on again after restarting engine, even if oil level is correct, as severe engine damage may result. Have the system checked and serviced immediately.

ALTERNATOR WARNING LIGHT

Light indicates possible fault in the charging system. The alternator belt may be loose or broken. Have the system checked and serviced promptly if light comes on while driving. DO NOT drive vehicle if alternator belt is loose or broken.

PARK BRAKE WARNING LIGHT

Light comes on with the parking brake fully or partially engaged. If light does not come on as designed or comes on at any other time, it indicates possible fault in the electrical system or the parking brake switch may be damaged. Have the system checked and serviced as necessary to correct problem.

CHECK ENGINE WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)

Light comes on if there is an electrical malfunction in the fuel injection system. A back-up system in the control unit will take over to allow continued operation of vehicle after light has illuminated. On non-turbo models, light may also indicates fault in the ignition system. Have the system checked and serviced as soon as possible if light comes on.

EXH WARNING LIGHT (8-VALVE ENGINES)

EXH light comes on every 30,000 miles as a maintenance service reminder for components in the emission control system.

SHIFT UP INDICATOR LIGHT (MANUAL TRANSMISSION VEHICLES)

Light serves as a gearshift guide for conserving fuel by illuminating when it is time to shift into the next higher gear.

CRUISE INDICATOR LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)

Light comes on to indicate that the cruise control switch is currently in the ON position.

SUPPLEMENTAL RESTRAINT SYSTEM (SRS) AIR BAG WARNING LIGHT (IF EQUIPPED)

Light is designed to come on briefly with the ignition switch in the ON position and should go out shortly after. If light blinks or glows steadily while driving, it indicates possible fault in the Supplemental Restraint System (SRS) and should be checked and serviced as soon as possible.
