Installation Procedure

  1. Transfers all parts as necessary.
  2. Refer to «FASTENER CAUTION»(ref-653635-S22306564902014090100000) Insert the sunroof housing assembly to gauge pin location in the opening. Thight the three fasteners.
  3. Install the sunroof housing assembly with the remaining fasteners and tighten to 9 Nm (80 lb in).
  4. Connect the front wiring harness actuation unit. Connect the 2 wiring harness plugs.
  5. Install the rear water drain hose actuation unit. Connect the 2 hoses and apply tie straps if required.
  6. Install the front water drain hose actuation unit. Connect the 2 hoses and apply tie straps if required.
  7. Verify the operation of the sunroof.
  8. Water test the vehicle before installing the headliner.
  9. Install the headlining. Refer to «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S23250645742014090100000) or «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITH SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S18681831402014090100000) .

Scheme 1: Sunroof Housing Front Drain Hose, Replace 4D

Preliminary Procedure Remove the headlining trim panel. Refer to HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT SUNROOF) or HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITH SUNROOF) . Remove front wheelhouse liner. Refer to FRONT WHEELHOUSE REAR LINER REPLACEMENT .
1Sunroof Housing Front Drain Hose Procedure Remove the sunroof housing front drain hose from the sunroof assembly. Remove the rubber grommet from the front wheelhouse. Draw the front drain hose out of the A-pillar. Separate the rubber grommet from the front drain hose. NOTE: It is only necessary to lower the headlining trim panel in the front area.

Scheme 2: Sunroof Housing Rear Drain Hose, Replace 4D

Preliminary Procedure Remove the headlining trim panel. Refer to HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT SUNROOF) or HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITH SUNROOF) . Remove the body lock pillar upper trim panel. Refer to C-PILLAR UPPER TRIM PANEL, REPLACE 4D Remove the rear compartment side trim panel. Refer to REAR COMPARTMENT SIDE TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT .
1Sunroof Housing Rear Drain Hose Procedure Remove the sunroof housing rear drain hose from the sunroof assembly. Remove the rubber grommet from the tail lamp pocket. Draw the rear drain hose out of the C-pillar. Separate the rubber grommet from the rear drain hose. NOTE: It is only necessary to lower the headlining trim panel in the rear area.

Scheme 3: Sunroof Module Assembly Replacement

Scheme 4: Sunroof Window Motor Replacement

Preliminary Procedure It is only necessary to lower the headliner. Only perform the steps in the headliner replacement procedure that will lower the headliner enough to gain access to the part. Refer to HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT SUNROOF) or HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITH SUNROOF) .
1Sunroof Window Motor Fastener (Qty: 3) Refer to FASTENER CAUTION Procedure Disconnect the electrical wiring harness connector. Tighten 4 Nm (35 lb in)
2Sunroof Window Motor Procedure When replacing the sunroof motor, refer to SUNROOF MOTOR/ACTUATOR INITIALIZATION/TEACH PROCESS (NEW MOTOR) or SUNROOF MOTOR/ACTUATOR INITIALIZATION/TEACH PROCESS (EXISTING MOTOR) . Verify the operation of the sunroof before installing the headliner.

Perform the Initialization/Teach Process any time the sunroof motor/actuator is removed from the sunroof.

"Manual" indicates the first switch detent

"Express" indicates the second switch detent

  1. Ensure that the electrical harness is connected to the sunroof motor.
  2. Make sure the glass/roller blind is in the full close position before re-initialization.
  3. Re-initialization (Normalization) - Press "manual close switch" for more than 10 seconds until glass/roller blind finds hard stop.
  4. Learn (this step is recommended for existing motors but required for new motors): 4.1. Open the glass/roller blind with the express or manual open switch to the full open position and release the switch 4.2. Press "manual open switch" for more than 10 seconds until the sunroof glass/roller blind starts AND reaches the Closed Position.
  5. Verify the operation of the sunroof.

Note. The Initialization/Teach Process is not complete if any of the following actions take place before the initialization cycle is done: The sunroof switch is not held in the close position. The ignition and/or battery power has been removed. The glass panel has not reached the closed position. The Initialization/Teach Process must be restarted if the procedure is not carried out completely.

Perform the Initialization/Teach Process any time a new sunroof motor actuator is installed in the vehicle.

  1. Ensure that the electrical harness on the headliner is connected to the sunroof motor.
  2. Put the ignition in the RUN position. (CAL file will be automatically downloaded by Body Control housing, BCM). "Manual close" is allowed and limited "manual open" is allowed
  3. Re-initialization (Normalization) - Press "manual close switch" until glass/roller blind finds hard stop. After initialization "express open" is allowed but not "express close"
  4. Learn: 4.1. Open the sunroof window/sunshade with the express or manual open the switch to the full open position the release the switch. 4.2. Press "manual open switch" for more than 10 seconds or until the sunroof window starts AND reaches the closed position.
  5. Verify the operation of the sunroof.

Note. The Initialization/Teach Process is not complete if any of the following actions take place before the initialization cycle is done: The sunroof switch is not held in the close position. The ignition and/or battery power has been removed. The glass panel has not reached the closed position. The Initialization/Teach Process must be restarted if the procedure is not carried out completely.

  1. It is only necessary to lower the headliner. Only perform the steps in the headliner replacement procedure that will lower the headliner enough to gain access to the part.   2. Remove the power sunroof motor. 2.1. Remove the 3 bolts (1). 2.2. Disconnect the wiring harness plug (2).
  1. Install the power sunroof motor.
  2. Refer to «FASTENER CAUTION»(ref-653635-S22306564902014090100000) Connect the wiring harness plug. Tighten Tighten the 3 bolts to 7 Nm (62 lb in).
  3. Verify the operation of the sunroof.
  4. When replacing the motor/actuator. Refer to «SUNROOF MOTOR/ACTUATOR INITIALIZATION/TEACH PROCESS (NEW MOTOR)»(ref-653667-S19235899652014090100000) or «SUNROOF MOTOR/ACTUATOR INITIALIZATION/TEACH PROCESS (EXISTING MOTOR)»(ref-653667-S30480581622014090100000) .
  5. Install the headlining. Refer to «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S23250645742014090100000) or «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITH SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S18681831402014090100000) .

  1. Open the sunshade.
  2. Lower the molded headlining. Refer to «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S23250645742014090100000) or «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITH SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S18681831402014090100000) .
  3. IMPORTANT: The sunshade is blocked and cannot roll open. Lock the sunshade. 3.1. Manually roll the sunshade until the notch (1) is almost vertical to the sunshade. 3.2. Place a bolt pin (2) approximately 1 mm (0.04 in) thick on the left side in the notch in order to prevent the rolling open of the sunshade spring.
  4. Remove the rear crossmember. Remove the 4 bolts (1) and remove the rear crossmember.
  5. Remove the sunshade at the rails. Remove the 2 bolts (1).
  6. Remove sunshade. Disconnect the sunshade (90 degree rotation) and remove.

Scheme 9: Installation Procedure
  1. IMPORTANT: Ensure that the sunshade cover is correctly placed into the guide (1) Insert the sunshade. 1.1. Insert the sunshade into the guide and lock into position. 1.2. Insert the sunshade in the guide rails until the stop (2).
  2. Install the sunshade at the rails. Tighten Tighten the 2 bolts to 2.5 Nm (22 lb in).
  3. Install the rear crossmember.
  4. Disconnect the sunshade. Remove the pin. Tighten Tighten the sunshade.
  5. Close the sunshade
  6. Install the headlining. Refer to «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S23250645742014090100000) or «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITH SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S18681831402014090100000) .

  2. Remove the Sunroof Housing Assembly. Refer to «SUNROOF HOUSING REPLACEMENT»(ref-653667-S19305286952014090100000) .
  3. Remove the window outer seal. Remove the window outer seal from the guide.

Scheme 12: Installation Procedure
  1. NOTE: Position the window outer seal with the sunroof in the front area on markings. Cut off the window seal at the lower area of the opening of the sunroof. Install the window outer seal. 1.1. Insert the window outer seal into the guide. 1.2. Cut off the extra window seal and glue the end to the abutting seal (super glue).
  2. Install the sunroof housing assembly. Refer to «SUNROOF HOUSING REPLACEMENT»(ref-653667-S19305286952014090100000) .
  3. Install the roof headliner. Refer to «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITHOUT SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S23250645742014090100000) or «HEADLINING TRIM PANEL REPLACEMENT (WITH SUNROOF)»(ref-653664-S18681831402014090100000) .

Removal Procedure

  1. Remove the front sunroof window. Refer to «SUNROOF WINDOW REPLACEMENT - FRONT»(ref-653667-S42526564292014090100000) .
  2. Remove the rear sunroof window. Refer to «SUNROOF WINDOW REPLACEMENT - REAR»(ref-653667-S40699682592014090100000) .
  3. Remove the seal. Remove the seal from the sunroof housing track.

  1. Install the seal to the sunroof housing track.
  2. Install the rear sunroof window. Refer to «SUNROOF WINDOW REPLACEMENT - REAR»(ref-653667-S40699682592014090100000) .
  3. Install the front sunroof window. Refer to «SUNROOF WINDOW REPLACEMENT - FRONT»(ref-653667-S42526564292014090100000) .

1Sunroof Window Rear Seal Side Procedure Before removing the sunroof window, apply a double layer of masking tape around the perimeter of the painted surfaces. Remove the sunroof window weatherstrip by grasping the edge, pull downward to release it from the retainer. Clean around the inside surface of the window weatherstrip retainer with a 50/50 mixture of isopropyl alcohol and water by volume on a dampened lint free cloth. Position the sunroof window rear seal side in the center of the window retainer, working outward the entire length. Ensure the window height. Refer to SUNROOF WINDOW HEIGHT AND OPENING FIT ADJUSTMENT . Inspect sunroof for proper operation.

  1. Remove the front air deflector covers (1) from left and right sides.
  2. Open the sunroof to the vent position.
  3. Loosen the sunroof window rear bolts. Loosen the 4 bolts.
  4. Open the sunroof to the half open position.
  5. Loosen the front sunroof window. Loosen the 2 bolts.
  6. Close the sunroof.
  7. NOTE: Tighten the window in the upper position. Adjust the window.
  8. Refer to «FASTENER CAUTION»(ref-653635-S22306564902014090100000) . Tighten the window rear bolts. Tighten Tighten the 4 bolts to 4 Nm (35 lb in).
  9. Open the sunroof window until the rear part is in the vent position.
  10. Tighten the sunroof window front bolts. Tighten Tighten the 2 bolts to 4 Nm (35 lb in).
  11. Install the front air deflector covers (1) to left and right sides.
  12. Close the sunroof. Inspect the gap 1.5-2 mm (0.06-0.08 in).

  1. Open the sunshade.
  2. Open the sunroof to the vent position.
  3. NOTE: Ensure the position disk does not drop off. Remove the sunroof window rear bolts, two on each side. Remove the 4 bolts.
  4. Open the sunroof to the half open position.
  5. NOTE: Ensure the position disk does not drop off. Remove the front window bolts, one on each side. Remove the 2 bolts.
  6. Remove the window.

  1. Insert the window. Align and insert the window on one side.
  2. NOTE: Position disk may not rotate, since it can cause scratches in the rear glass cover. Install the front window. 2.1. Insert the 2 long position window panes (1) if equipped. 2.2. Install the 2 screws (3) with washers (2).
  3. Close the sunroof until the rear part is in the vent position.
  4. NOTE: Position disk may not rotate, since it can cause scratches in the rear window. Install the sunroof window rear bolts. 4.1. Insert the 4 long position window panes. 4.2. Install the 4 screws with washers.
  5. Close the sunroof. Inspect the gap 11.0 + or -0.3 mm (0.43in).
  6. Refer to «FASTENER CAUTION»(ref-653635-S22306564902014090100000) Tighten the sunroof, rear. Press the seal lightly down (arrow). Tighten Tighten the 4 bolts to 4 Nm (35 lb in).
  7. Open the sunroof to the half open position.
  8. Tighten the sunroof window front bolts. Tighten Tighten the 2 bolts to 4 Nm (35 lb in).
  9. Install the front air deflector covers. Insert and clip in covers.
  10. When replacing the motor. Refer to «SUNROOF MOTOR/ACTUATOR INITIALIZATION/TEACH PROCESS»(ref-653667-S30480581622014090100000) .
  11. Verify the operation of the sunroof.
  12. Close the sunroof.

  1. Open the sunshade.
  2. Open the sunroof to the vent position.
  3. Remove the rear window. 3.1. Push up on the side covers to access the fasteners. 3.2. Remove the 4 fasteners.
  4. Remove the rear window.

  1. Install the rear sunroof window.
  2. Tighten the rear window in the upper position.
  3. Refer to «FASTENER CAUTION»(ref-653635-S22306564902014090100000) Install the rear window. Inspect the window gap 11.0 + or -0.3 mm (0.43in). Tighten Tighten the 4 bolts to 4 Nm (35 lb in).
  4. Verify the operation of the sunroof.
