Circuit/System Testing

  1. Ignition ON, verify that DTC C0035, C0040, C0045, or C0050 is not present in the EBCM.
  2. If any listed DTC is present, refer to «DTC C0035, C0040, C0045, OR C0050»(ref-653657-S07746048992014090100000) to diagnose that DTC prior to this diagnostic.
  3. Replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module and verify the DTC does not reset.
  4. If the DTC resets, replace the module that set the DTC.

Ignition ON

The BCM detects a short to ground on the signal circuit.

The BCM ignores the traction control switch signal input.

A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.

CONTROL MODULE REFERENCES for scan tool information

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S109 Sport Mode Switch.
  2. Test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Ignition ON, verify the scan tool BCM Traction Control Switch parameter is No.
  5. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
  6. Install a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 3 and ground.
  7. Verify the scan tool BCM Traction Control Switch parameter is Yes.
  8. If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to voltage or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 Body Control Module.
  9. If all circuits test normal, test or replace the S109 Sport Mode Switch.

Static Test

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S109 Sport Mode Switch.
  2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 1 and the ground circuit terminal 3 with the switch in the released position.
  3. If less than the specified value, replace the S109 Sport Mode Switch.
  4. Test for less than 5 ohms between the signal circuit terminal 1 and the ground circuit terminal 3 with the switch in the pressed position.
  5. If greater than the specified value, replace the S109 Sport Mode Switch.

  1. The EBCM disables the ABS, traction control, stability control and hill start assist for the duration of the ignition cycle.
  2. The ABS indicator turns ON.
  3. The traction control/stability control-active indicator turns ON.
  1. A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
  2. The EBCM will turn OFF the indicator in the next ignition cycle.

Diagnostic Aids

  1. Do not use a magnet to clean the encoder ring.
  2. If 2 or more wheel speed sensors are inoperative, diagnose each wheel speed sensor individually.
  3. If the customer comments that the ABS indicator is ON only during moist environmental conditions (rain, snow, vehicle wash, etc.), inspect the wheel speed sensor wiring for signs of water intrusion. If the DTC is not current, clear all DTCs and simulate the effects of water intrusion by using the following procedure
  1. Spray the suspected area with a 5% saltwater solution.
  2. Test drive the vehicle over various road surfaces (bumps, turns, etc.), above 40 km/h (25 MPH) for at least 30 s.
  3. Rinse the area thoroughly when completed.

CONTROL MODULE REFERENCES for scan tool information

  1. Inspect the appropriate wheel speed sensor for contamination, physical damage and correct installation.
  2. If contamination, physical damage or incorrect installation is diagnosed, repair or replace the wheel speed sensor.
  3. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module and at the wheel speed sensor.
  4. Ignition ON, test for less than 0.3 V between the circuit terminal listed below and ground: Left front wheel speed sensor low reference circuit terminal 28 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector Right front wheel speed sensor low reference circuit terminal 4 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector Left rear wheel speed sensor low reference circuit terminal 35 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector Right rear wheel speed sensor low reference circuit terminal 10 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector
  5. If greater than the specified value, test the low reference circuit for a short to voltage.
  6.   15. Ignition ON, test for greater than 11 V between the 12 V reference circuit terminal 1 at the harness connector of the wheel speed sensor and ground.
  16. If less than the specified value, test the 12 V reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module.
  17. Test for greater than 11 V between the 12 V reference circuit terminal 1 and the low reference circuit terminal 2 at the harness connector of the wheel speed sensor.
  18. If less than the specified value, test the low reference circuit for an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module.
  19. If all circuits test normal, test the wheel speed sensor.

Component Testing

Note. Circuit/System Testing must be performed before Component Testing.

Dynamic Test

  1. Ignition OFF, connect the harness connector at the wheel speed sensor.
  2. Disconnect the harness connector at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module.
  3. Connect a fused jumper wire between B+ and the circuit terminal listed below: Left front wheel speed sensor 12 V reference circuit terminal 27 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector Right front wheel speed sensor 12 V reference circuit terminal 3 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector Left rear wheel speed sensor 12 V reference circuit terminal 36 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector Right rear wheel speed sensor 12 V reference circuit terminal 11 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector
  4. Spin the wheel very slowly, test for alternating current between ca. 7 mA and ca. 14 mA between the circuit terminal listed below and ground: Left front wheel speed sensor low reference circuit terminal 28 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector Right front wheel speed sensor low reference circuit terminal 4 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector Left rear wheel speed sensor low reference circuit terminal 35 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector Right rear wheel speed sensor low reference circuit terminal 10 at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module harness connector
  5. If not within the specified range, replace the wheel speed sensor.

  1. The EBCM disables the ABS, traction control, stability control and hill start assist for the duration of the ignition cycle.
  2. The ABS indicator turns ON.
  3. The traction control/stability control active indicator turns ON.
  4. The brake warning indicator turns ON.
  1. A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
  2. The EBCM will turn OFF the indicators in the next ignition cycle.

CONTROL MODULE REFERENCES for scan tool information

  1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module.
  2. Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuits listed below and ground. Terminal 13 Terminal 38
  3. If greater than the specified range, test the ground circuit for an open/high resistance.
  4. Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.
  5. If the test lamp does not illuminate, test the B+ circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance.
  6. If all circuits test normal, replace the brake pressure modulator valve assembly and verify the DTC does not reset.
  7. If the DTC resets, replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module.

  4. If the DTC resets replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module.

The electronic suspension control module detects an invalid brake pedal applied signal.

The EBCM disables the hill start assist for the duration of the ignition cycle.

A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.

The DTC C0161 can be set if the brake pedal is applied while accelerating or the brake pedal position sensor is out of adjustment.

CONTROL MODULE REFERENCES

  1. Ignition ON, verify that DTC C0277 is not present in the BCM.
  2. If DTC C0277 is present, refer to «DTC C0277 OR C0890»(ref-653643-S28939574582014090100000) .
  3. Ignition ON, observe the stop lamps while applying and releasing the brake pedal. Verify the stop lamps operate properly.
  4. If the stop lamps do not operate properly, refer to «SYMPTOMS - LIGHTING»(ref-653643-S07763487572014090100000) .
  5. Replace the module which sets the DTC and verify the DTC does not reset.
  6. If the DTC resets replace the K9 Body Control Module.
