Programming The Speedometer Saab 9-5 I рестайлинг

Main Instrument Unit 4 illustrations ~570 words

Programming The Speedometer

The ABS or TC/ABS control module reads 29 pulses per wheel revolution. Depending on the dimensions of the tyre and rim (physical circumference), one kilometre will correspond to a different number of pulses when the main instrument unit receives the value from ABS or TC/ABS. It is therefore possible to change how the main instrument unit interprets the total number of pulses per kilometre so they correspond to the tyre dimension fitted on the car. Programming must be carried out so that the speedometer and odometer can give the driver the correct information. On certain markets, it is a legal requirement that the speed the speedometer shows is between 0 and 10 km/h too high.

Note. If the speedometer is not programmed correctly, the speed that is displayed to the driver may be lower than the actual speed and SID will provide incorrect information on the fuel quantity and time of arrival.

Scheme 116: Programming The Speedometer

The current tyre dimension is programmed with Tech 2. Select the correct tyre from the list in Tech2 or choose to program the dynamic circumference of the tyre manually.

If the speedometer is programmed for a certain tyre and new wheels with larger circumference are fitted, the speed indicated by the speedometer will be too low.

Note. The car must be approved for fitting 17 inch wheels.

Scheme 117: Adjustment Of Display Illumination, Odometer

The SID calculates a suitable value for the display lighting using the rheostat value and the value for cabin light intensity from the light sensor. The SID transmits this calculated value on the bus as Display lighting level, unit %. The MIU adds an offset value to this, which can be adjusted with the diagnostic tool. As there is only one offset value, the display illumination cannot be turned completely on or off. Adjustment is in %.

Scheme 118: Adjusting Temperature Gauge Night Panel

The Night Panel function in SID turns off the temperature gauge lighting under normal conditions. If the engine temperature exceeds a given level, then the engine temperature gauge lighting will light up. This command enables alteration of the temperature at which the main instrument unit lights up the engine temperature gauge when Night Panel is active. The works setting is 120 °C for a 4-cylinder engine and 114 °C for a 6-cylinder engine.

Adjustment can be checked afterwards by activating Night Panel with the diagnostic tool.

Scheme 119

Scheme 119: Adjusting The Temperature Gauge

Using information on the engine coolant temperature form Trionic, the main instrument unit inserts fixed break points to provide a more stable display of the engine coolant temperature. The scale on the temperature gauge is divided into 4 fixed "break points". There are 2 ways of adjusting the coolant temperature display. The coolant temperatures that correspond to the fixed break points can be adjusted and the horizontal break point can be adjusted (gauge display, engine at operating temperature)

Adjustment can be made with the following break points/commands

  1. Low temp. High - Break point where needle leaves the "blue" zone (works setting: 4 -cyl. 50°C, 6-cyl.47°C)
  2. Horizontal Low temp. - Break point for needle in horizontal position (works setting: 4 -cyl. 83°C, 6-cyl. 80°C).
  3. Horizontal High temp. - Break point where the needle leaves horizontal position (works setting: 4 -cyl. 115°C, 6-cyl. 112°C).
  4. High temp Low - Break point where the needle goes into the "red" zone (works setting: 4 -cyl. 129°C, 6-cyl. 126°C).
  5. Horizontal Offset. Adjusts the horizontal position of the needle in degrees.
