The main lighting of the car comprises main beam and dipped beam, number-plate lighting and parking lights.
It is turned on with the light switch in position 2 and the ignition in position OFF, ON, or ST.
Switching between main and dipped beams is done with the dipswitch, the lever to the left of the steering wheel.
With the ignition in position OFF, ON or ST, a voltage of +X is supplied from the ignition switch to pin 16 of the light switch. When the light switch is turned to position 2 the power is fed to the dipped-beam relay (8) from pin 11 and to DICE pin 15 so that DICE will know the position of the switch. DICE grounds the relay (8), after which power is fed to the filament monitor (228b) and further to fuses (7 and 9) and to the dipped-beam lamps (12).
The dipswitch controls the main beam in two different ways: either "flash", with the dipswitch drawn to the spring-loaded position, or "main beam", with the dipswitch in a fixed position. In both cases the dipswitch is drawn towards the rim of the steering wheel.
The main beam is controlled using the dipswitch (215) and the light switch (10). If the light switch (10) is in position 0 and the switch (215) is on, +30 will be fed to the main beam lamps (11) via the filament monitor (228b) and fuses 8, 10 and 13. To get continuous main beam, switch (10) must be set to position 2. DICE (628) will then ground the relay (8a), which powers the main beam through the filament monitor (228b) and fuses 8 and 10.
If the light switch is in position 0 or 1 and the ignition is held in position ST, the dipped-beam relay will release after 20 seconds.
When the light switch is in position 2 and the ignition is ON, DICE puts "Main beam ON" onto the bus. The message is used by SID, which switches on the instrument lighting. The intensity of the light is decided by the setting of the rheostat (0-100%).
The light switch positions operate different lighting modes depending on how DICE is programmed. There are 3 different program alternatives. The reason for this is that different markets demand different lighting modes. When program alternative 1 is to be used, fuse 35 must first be removed.

ALTERNATIVES WHEN IGNITION ON
If main beam is on and the ignition is turned to position OFF, or if the light switch is turned to any other position, the main beam will be switched off and must be turned on again.
When the ignition is in the OFF position the same programming function is employed for all markets. In position 0 or 2, there will be no lights on. In Position 1, the parking lights will be on.

Dipped beam is on when the light switch (10) is in position 2 and the ignition is in OFF, ON or START position. When the ignition is ON, the power supply will be applied to the dipped beam lamps by DICE. Dipped beam is used on certain markets as daylight driving lights (light switch in 0 or 1). On some markets there are also side marker lights (234FL/FR). This is an extra filament in the front direction indicators that sends a beam of light to the side through an aperture in the reflector.
To enable DICE to determine what position (0-1-2) the light switch (10) is set to, the control module uses bus information from TWICE and its own pins 39 and 15.
TWICE monitors the parking lights and sends information on the bus (Rear light Left ON/OFF and Rear light Right ON/OFF). The ON message corresponds to switch position 1 and the OFF message corresponds to position 0 or 2.
To enable DICE to determine the position setting, it uses pins 39 and 15. DICE pin 39 is connected to light switch pin 10, which corresponds to position 0. DICE pin 15 is connected to light switch pin 11, which corresponds to position 2.
From pin 11 on the dipswitch (10), +X voltage is fed from the ignition switch to pin 15 on the control module, thus grounding the main light relay through pin 4 on the control module and causing the relay to close. +30 voltage is fed through the relay via the filament monitor and on to the fuses (7 and 9).
