| WARNING | All Saab 9-5 models are fitted with the SRS system as standard with a passenger airbag available as an option. Comply to the safety and handling instructions in Group 8, Airbag (SRS), "Technical description". If it is necessary to remove the contact roller, it is important that it is centred when the steering wheel is refitted (wheels straight ahead). |

- Ignition switch in the OFF position.
- Remove the speaker grille (fastened with clips).
- Remove the speakers and unplug the connectors.
- Remove the cover on the centre of the dashboard front. Cars with ACC and/or alarm: Unplug the connector concerned and push the sensor down through the hole in the dashboard.
- Remove the glove box, see «GLOVE BOX»(ref-212275-S20148062352005122300000) . Lift out the air duct.
- Turn the steering wheel so that the wheels are pointing straight ahead.
- Remove the driver's airbag, 2 covers and screws.
- Unplug the connectors to the airbag and horn, as well as to the audio system if fitted IMPORTANT: As there will be a sudden jolt when the steering wheel is loosened from the cone, there is a risk that the contact roller/leads will fasten in the steering wheel and be damaged.
- Undo the steering wheel nut, leaving it fastened to the last few threads and pull off the steering wheel up to the nut. Then remove the nut and carefully lift off the steering wheel. NOTE: Secure the contact roller to the steering column by taping it in the correct position.
- Remove the data link connector, 2 screws.
- Remove the lower dashboard panel with air duct on the driver's side, 3 screws.
- Remove the floor light in the lower dashboard panel.
- Manual gearbox: Lift up the gear lever gaiter. Automatic transmission: Remove the rim with a small screwdriver.
- Remove the compartment or, alternatively, the ashtray with holder using a screwdriver.
- Undo the screws behind the compartment, 2 pcs.
- Unplug the connector to the central locking system switch.
- Lift up the gear lever cover and unplug the connector for the seat heater and cigarette lighter.
- Remove the switch panel, see «SWITCH PANEL»(ref-212275-S32054404182005122300000) .
- Remove the fuse box, 3 screws.
- Remove the steering column gaiter, 4 screws.
- Remove the main instrument unit, 4 screws. Unplug the connectors on the back.
- Remove the air duct on the driver's side, 1 screw.
- Cars with passenger airbag: Unplug the airbag connector. Remove the strap holding the airbag in place, 1 screw.
- Remove the front scuff plate.
- Fold back the carpet and remove the protective plate in front of the lower dashboard mounting, 2 nuts at each mounting point.
- Remove the rear part of the centre console by lifting it straight up and unplugging the connector.
- Select reverse (manual) or P (automatic) and remove the key.
- Rotate and lift up the theft protection antenna unit (bayonet fitting) from the ignition switch and unplug the connector. Insert the key and select neutral.
- Disconnect the switch for the electric window lifts and unplug the connectors.
- Remove the screws holding the upper part of the centre console, 6 screws. Lift out the upper part of the centre console. NOTE: Mark the position of the metal bracket before removing it.
- Undo the metal bracket with the locating pin on the floor console, 3 screws.
- Unscrew the upper edge of the dashboard, 2 screws and 1 nut. The middle nut need only be slackened, the hole is slotted.
- Unscrew the lower edge of the dashboard, 2 screws.
- Lift up the dashboard and pull it outwards.
- Lift out the dashboard.
- Remove the switch panel, see «SWITCH PANEL»(ref-212275-S32054404182005122300000) .
- Remove the cup holder from the rear of the switch panel, 2 screws.
Note. Removal will be easier if done by 2 persons.

- Lower the rear seat armrest and press the cup holder halfway out.
- Use screwdrivers to bend aside the two locking tongues while withdrawing the cup holder from the armrest.

- Press the cup holder in so that the locking tongues engage.
- Raise the armrest.

- Pull the ashtray out of the holder.
- Withdraw the ashtray holder while carefully bending the clips aside, first the 2 lower ones and then the 2 upper ones, using a screwdriver.

- Manual gearbox: Lift up the gear lever gaiter. Automatic transmission: Remove the edging using «82 93 474 REMOVAL TOOL»(ref-212275-S05598643222005122300000) .
- Remove the compartment or ashtray with holder using a screwdriver and «82 93 474 REMOVAL TOOL»(ref-212275-S05598643222005122300000) . See «ASHTRAY»(ref-212275-S26503338002005122300000) .
- Remove the gear lever cover, 2 screws.
- Unplug the connector for the central locking system switch.
- Lift up the gear lever gaiter and undo the connectors for the seat heating, seat ventilation and cigarette lighter switches. IMPORTANT: Mark the connectors to avoid incorrect reconnection.
- Remove the rear section of the centre console by removing the screw on the top. Then lift straight up and unplug the connector.
- Select reverse (manual) or P (automatic) and remove the key.
- Rotate and lift up the theft protection antenna unit (bayonet fitting) from the ignition switch and unplug the connector. Insert the key and select neutral.
- Disconnect the switch for the electric window lifts and unplug the connectors.
- Remove the screws holding the upper part of the centre console, 6 screws. Lift out the upper part of the centre console.
- Fold back the carpets and remove the front screws, 2 pcs.
- Remove the rear screws, 2 pcs.
- Lift and remove the centre console.

- Lift the centre console into place. IMPORTANT: Make sure no cables or connectors are pinched.
- Screw on the centre console front and back, 4 screws. Start with the one at the front left, which is used as a guide.
- Refit the carpets.
- Lift the upper part of the centre console backwards. At the same time, carefully guide the wires into place. Be careful with the lead for the theft protection system. IMPORTANT: For manual gearbox: Check that the gear lever gaiter is not trapped.
- Screw the upper part of the centre console in place, 6 screws.
- Refit the switch for the electric window lifts and clip the handbrake gaiter back into place.
- Plug in the connectors in the rear section of the centre console and fit the rear section. Fit the upper screw.
- Reconnect the central locking system connector.
- Plug in the connector for the seat heating, seat ventilation and cigarette lighter switches. IMPORTANT: Make sure the connectors are plugged into the correct switches.
- Refit the gear lever cover, 2 clips at the back and 2 screws at the front.
- Refit the compartment or ashtray with holder.
- Manual gearbox: Refit gear lever gaiter. Automatic gearbox: Fit the rim around the gear lever housing.
- Select reverse (manual) or P (automatic) and remove the key.
- Plug in the connector for the theft-protection antenna unit and fit it (bayonet fitting).

- Manual gearbox: . Lift up the gear lever gaiter. Automatic transmission: Remove the rim with a small screwdriver.
- Remove the compartment or, alternatively, the «ASHTRAY»(ref-212275-S26503338002005122300000) with holder using a screwdriver.
- Remove the two screws of the gear lever cover and lift it upwards and backwards.
- Unplug the connector for the central locking system switch.
- Unplug the connectors of the seat heating switches (keep track of the left and right connector) and the cigarette lighter.
- Remover the rear part of the centre console by lifting it straight up.
- Manual gearbox: Engage reverse and remove the key. Automatic transmission: Select the P position and remove the key.
- Turn the theft protection antenna unit clockwise, lift it (bayonet fitting) from the ignition switch and unplug the connector. Insert the key and engage neutral.
- Remove the switches for the electric windows and unplug the connectors.
- Remove the screws holding the upper part of the centre console, 6 screws.
- Remove the clip that holds the gaiter in place. Remove the gaiter from the upper part of the console.
- Lift out the upper part of the centre console.
- Pull the gaiter forwards over the lever (destructive removal).
- Pry off the plastic sleeve with a screwdriver.

- Invert the gaiter over the sleeve and thread the sleeve onto the handbrake lever.
- Re-invert the gaiter and press the sleeve as far as possible onto the lever.
- Fit the gaiter and press the clip to the upper part of the console into place. NOTE: Manual gearbox: Ensure that the gear lever gaiter does not get caught.
- Lift back the upper part of the centre console. At the same time, carefully position the leads. Be careful with the lead for the theft protection system.
- Screw the upper part of the centre console in place, 4 front screws.
- Fit the spring and the two rear screws to the upper part of the centre console.
- Connect and refit the switch for the electric window lifts.
- Refit the rear part of the centre console.
- Plug in the connectors of the cigarette lighter and heated seat switches. NOTE: Make sure the left-hand and right-hand connectors are plugged in correctly.
- Plug in the central locking switch connector.
- Refit the gear lever cover, 2 clips at the back and 2 screws at the front.
- Refit the compartment or «ASHTRAY»(ref-212275-S26503338002005122300000) with holder.
- Manual gearbox: Fit the gear lever gaiter. Automatic transmission: Fit the rim around the selector lever housing.
- Manual gearbox: Engage reverse and remove the key. Automatic transmission: Select the P position and remove the key.
- Plug in the connector to the theft protection antenna unit. Refit the antenna unit (bayonet fitting).

- Remove the cover for the heating and ventilation unit.
- Remove the lower part of the dashboard under the glove box, 4 screws. There are clips on the front.
- Remove the floor lighting from the lower dashboard panel.
- Undo 3 retaining screws underneath and 3 retaining screws inside the glove box.
- Lift out the glove box slightly and unplug the connector for the glove box light.
- Cars with A/C: Detach the cooling hose.
- Lift out the glove box.
- Remove the main fuse box cover.
- Insert one hand into the main fuse box hole and press out the light switch from inside.
- Unplug the connector.

- Connect the new light switch
- Press the light switch into the panel.
- Fit the main fuse box cover.
