Checking Injector Flow Capacity (9-3)

CAUTIONThe utmost cleanliness must be observed when handling the fuel rails and injectors. Wash around the injectors, fuel rail and intake manifold and dry with compressed air.
  1. Remove the fuel rail.
  2. Attach the fuel connections to the fuel rail. Fit a transparent hose to the nozzle. The hose should be approx. 40 cm long with an inner diameter of 15 mm. (Scheme 44)
  3. Direct the hose into a receptacle/measuring glass.
  4. Plug in the connectors to their respective injectors.
  5. Start the fuel pump by connecting Diagnostics Cable, LH System, Jumper Lead (83 93 886) between the lower pin of fuse 32 for the fuel pump and the upper pin of fuse 4 for the luggage compartment lighting.
  6. Conduct the flow capacity test using the diagnostic tool. The diagnostic tool will then activate the injector in question with battery voltage for exactly 30 seconds. (Scheme 45)
  7. After 30 seconds, the amount of fuel should be 176 +/- 7 ml. The difference between injectors must not exceed 14 ml.
  8. Change any defective injectors.
  9. Disconnect the fuel line connections from the fuel rail and fit the fuel rail.

Checking Injector Flow Capacity (9-5)

CAUTIONThe utmost cleanliness must be observed when handling the fuel rails and injectors. Wash around the injectors, fuel rail and intake manifold and dry with compressed air.
  1. Remove the fuel rail.
  2. Fit a transparent hose onto the nozzle. This hose should be about 40 cm long and have an inside diameter of 15 mm. (Scheme 46)
  3. Place the end of the hose in a receptacle or measuring flask.
  4. Connect each injector to its proper connector.
  5. Start the fuel pump by connecting Lead Fault Diagnosis, LH-System Diagnostics Cable (83 93 886) to the upper pin on fuse No. 8 and the lower pin of fuse No. 19.
  6. Perform a flow capacity test with the diagnostic tool. The diagnostic tool then activates the injector concerned with battery voltage for exactly 30 seconds.
  7. Check the quantity of fuel against «INJECTOR CAPACITY FIGURES»(ref-151929-S33263845702003010900000).
  8. Replace any defective injectors. see scheme 29
  9. Attach the fuel rail.
