1. Ignition switch in the OFF position.
2. Remove the Airbag, driver. See «AIRBAG, DRIVER (333D) (2006)»(ref-274867-S35361315952007122400000) or «AIRBAG, DRIVER (333D) (2007)»(ref-278646-S04247036182008013000000) .
3. Remove the Steering wheel. See «Steering wheel»(ref-274860-S06787797802007122400000) .
4. Remove the upper and lower steering column covers.
5. Remove the windscreen wiper stalk switch.
6. Cut the cable tie.
7. Unplug the contact roller connector.
8. Remove the screws securing the contact roller.
9. Lift out the coil spring.

1. Check that the contact roller is locked in the center position.
2. Put in place the contact roller and cable harness. Fit the cable tie.
3. Plug in the connector.
4. Fit the screws securing the contact roller
5. Fit the windscreen wiper stalk switch.
6. Fit the upper and lower steering column covers.
7. Fit the Steering wheel. See «Steering wheel»(ref-274860-S06787797802007122400000) .
8. Fit the Airbag, driver (333D). See «AIRBAG, DRIVER (333D) (2006)»(ref-274867-S35361315952007122400000) or «AIRBAG, DRIVER (333D) (2007)»(ref-278646-S04247036182008013000000) .
9. Switch on the ignition and check the airbag system and control module with the diagnostic tool as follows: Connect the diagnostic tool to the diagnostic socket under the dashboard. Delete any trouble codes. Switch off the ignition and switch it on again. Wait at least 10 minutes with the ignition switched on. Check whether a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) is displayed: If a diagnostic trouble code is shown: Carry out fault diagnosis in accordance with the directions given for each DTC. If no diagnostic trouble code is shown: Fitting completed correctly. Disconnect the diagnostic tool.

Steering wheel

1. Put the ignition in OFF position.
2. Remove driver's airbag (333D). See «AIRBAG, DRIVER (333D) (2006)»(ref-274867-S35361315952007122400000) or «AIRBAG, DRIVER (333D) (2007)»(ref-278646-S04247036182008013000000) .
3. Turn the steering wheel so that the wheels are in the straight-ahead position.
4. Slacken the steering nut a few turns and pull the steering wheel so it releases from the steering column. Remove the steering wheel nut. IMPORTANT: Take care when releasing the locking mechanism on the connector so as not to damage the connector. Pull the halves straight apart to avoid bending the pins. For further information regarding connectors, refer to Connectors, handling and inspection.
5. Remove the connector of the contact roller.
6. Remove the steering wheel.

1. Fit the steering wheel on the steering shaft. NOTE: Make sure the steering wheel fits the coding on the steering shaft. IMPORTANT: Take care when plugging in the connector so as not to damage or press out the pins/sleeves in the connector.
2. Fit the connector of the contact roller.
3. Fit the nut. Tightening torque 39 Nm (28.8 lbf ft)
4. Fit driver's airbag (333D). See «AIRBAG, DRIVER (333D) (2006)»(ref-274867-S35361315952007122400000) or «AIRBAG, DRIVER (333D) (2007)»(ref-278646-S04247036182008013000000) .

1. Remove the steering column assembly see «Steering column assembly»(ref-274860-S13890900102007122400000) and put it on a bench. NOTE: The sections of the steering shaft are keyed so that they only fit together in one way.
2. Mark the steering shaft with a felt-tip pen on both sides of the steering shaft tube.
3. Pull apart the steering column assembly.
4. Remove the lock screw.
5. Carefully press in the catch and remove the bracket.
6. Remove the circlip and the spring washer.
7. Dismantle the bearing carrier with bearing.
8. Remove the steering wheel angle sensor.

1. Fit the steering wheel angle sensor to the shaft. Make sure the groove in the sensor and the heel on the shaft are aligned.
2. Affix and complete the label.
3. Fit the bearing carrier with bearing.
4. Fit the spring washer and circlip.
5. Fit the bracket. NOTE: Make sure the catch engages properly.
6. Fit the lock screw.
7. Align the marks on both parts of the shaft and carefully press together the steering column assembly. It should be easy to press together the steering column assembly.
8. Fit the steering column assembly «Steering column assembly»(ref-274860-S17869105002007122400000) into the car.
9. Using Saab scan tool, calibrate the steering wheel angle sensor.

The steering column assembly is bolted to the steering wheel member and connected to the power assisted steering gear via an intermediate shaft fitted with a universal joint.

For reasons of safety the steering column assembly and steering column are telescopic and designed to slide over each other in the event of a collision.

The steering column is adjustable for height and reach.

The steering column assembly is bolted to the steering column member. The steering column is mounted in three ball bearings (two by the steering wheel and one at the bottom) and connected to the power-assisted steering gear by an intermediate shaft incorporating a universal joint.

For reasons of safety the steering column assembly and steering column are telescopic and designed to slide over each other and crumple progressively in the event of a head-on collision. In addition, the configuration of the universal joints ensures that the steering column will be directed away from the driver in a collision.

Adjustment of the position of the steering wheel spokes is effected by changing the length of the track rods on both sides of the car.

The steering column is adjustable for height and reach.
