  1. Remove the battery cover, battery and battery tray.
  2. Remove the gear selector arm from the gearbox. The selector lever must be in position L.
  3. Remove the clamp at the cable bracket.
  4. Remove the cable ferrule from the bracket on the transmission.
  5. Remove the «CENTER CONSOLE (2006)»(ref-274851-S18034877482007122400000) and «ACC UNIT (2006)»(ref-274868-S40126804472007122400000) or «CENTER CONSOLE (2007)»(ref-278645-S13105446952008013000000) and «ACC UNIT (2007)»(ref-278647-S06179250942008013000000) .
  6. Remove the circlip and the anti-rattle clip.
  7. Drive out the pin while removing the end of the cable from the ball.
  8. Remove the screws securing the selector lever housing.
  9. Unplug the selector lever housing's connector.
  10. Lift up the selector lever housing and unplug the electrical connection from the ignition switch. Remove the air duct.
  11. Remove the clamp located beside the locking catches.
  12. Carefully press the catches securing the cable ferrule towards each other and remove the cable from the bracket.
  13. Lift out the selector lever housing.
  14. Pull the cable and rubber grommet into the car. NOTE: Protect the rear seat upholstery. The cable may contact the rear seat when it is pulled out.

  1. Fold aside the center console's carpet beside the accelerator so that the cable's rubber grommet can be pressed into place.
  2. Push the cable through the acoustic insulation from inside the cabin.
  3. Lubricate the rubber grommet with Vaseline and guide the cable to its correct position in the car.
  4. Press the rubber grommet into the hole in the body metal. NOTE: Check the position of the cable at the selector lever housing, the elevation on the cable ferrule should point up.
  5. Connect the selector lever to the transmission and fit the clamp.
  6. Fit the selector lever housing in place.
  7. Connect the cable to the selector lever housing and fit the clamp.
  8. Plug in the electrical connections to the ignition switch while putting the selector lever housing in place.
  9. Connect the air duct and tighten the selector lever housing.
  10. Tap in the pin at the same time as the ball enters the end of the cable.
  11. Fit the circlip and the anti-rattle clip.
  12. Fit the «CENTER CONSOLE (2006)»(ref-274851-S18034877482007122400000) and «ACC UNIT (2006)»(ref-274868-S40126804472007122400000) or «CENTER CONSOLE (2007)»(ref-278645-S13105446952008013000000) and «ACC UNIT (2007)»(ref-278647-S06179250942008013000000) .
  13. Fold back the carpet at the accelerator.
  14. Adjust the position of the cable, see «Checking and Adjustment, Selector Lever Cable»(ref-274852-S14288728922007122400000) .
  15. Refit the battery tray, battery and battery cover.
  16. Set the right time on the clock.

Scheme 513: Checking and Adjustment, Selector Lever Cable
  1. Check that the play in the selector lever is the same in position N as in position D. If it is not, adjust the cable as follows.
  2. Move the selector lever to position P (inside the car).
  3. Lift up the cable adjustment catch.
  4. Move the gear selector on the transmission to position P.
  5. Roll the vehicle until the P lock engages.
  6. Press the selector lever rearwards and press down the adjustment catch so that it locks the cable ferrule. NOTE: There is a play in the P-position (inside the car). The selector lever should be held rearward when the catch is pressed down.
  7. Check that the play is the same in positions N and D.

  1. Remove the center and floor consoles, see «CENTER CONSOLE (2006)»(ref-274851-S18034877482007122400000) or «CENTER CONSOLE (2007)»(ref-278645-S13105446952008013000000) . Remove the air duct to the rear air vent.
  2. Remove the circlip and the anti-rattle clip.
  3. Drive out the pin while removing the end of the cable from the ball.
  4. Remove the screws securing the selector lever housing.
  5. Unplug the selector lever housing's connector.
  6. Lift up the selector lever housing, undo the cable ties securing the wiring harness to the ignition switch and airbag, and unplug the electrical connection to the ignition switch.
  7. Remove the clamp located beside the locking catches.
  8. Carefully press the catches securing the cable ferrule towards each other and remove the cable from the bracket.
  9. Lift out the selector lever housing.

  1. Fit the selector lever housing in place.
  2. Connect the cable to the selector lever housing and fit the clamp.
  3. Plug in the electrical connection to the ignition switch while putting the selector lever housing in place.
  4. Refit the 2 cable ties for the wiring harness.
  5. Push in the pin at the same time as the ball enters the end of the cable.
  6. Fit the circlip and the anti-rattle clip.
  7. Connect the air duct and tighten the four retaining bolts of the lever housing. Tightening torque: 8 Nm (6 lbf ft)
  8. Fit the center and floor console, see «CENTER CONSOLE (2006)»(ref-274851-S18034877482007122400000) or «CENTER CONSOLE (2007)»(ref-278645-S13105446952008013000000) .
  9. Adjust the position of the cable.

  1. Remove the Selector lever housing see «Selector Lever Housing»(ref-274852-S21874818502007122400000) . IMPORTANT: When working on a dismantled selector lever housing, the selector lever should be protected with foam rubber or the like.
  2. Remove the Gear selector casing see «Gear Selector Casing»(ref-274852-S17856602752007122400000) .
  3. Snip the cable tie holding the lead for the lighting button in place.
  4. Snip the cable tie securing the lead for the electromagnet.
  5. Remove the pins on the electromagnet cable from the connector, pins 5 and 6. Use 85 80 110 PIN REMOVAL TOOL.
  6. Remove the shift indication display. Remove the screws securing the ignition switch.
  7. Drill out the rivets.
  8. Dismantle the selector lever housing.
  9. Remove the selector lever retaining bolt.
  10. Remove the selector lever with holder from the base plate.
  11. Remove the lock washer and tap out the spacer sleeve.
  12. Detach the selector lever from the holder.

  1. Fit the selector in the holder.
  2. Insert the spacer sleeve through the selector lever, ignition switch retaining catch, shift-lock retaining catch and holder. Fit a new lock washer.
  3. Fit the selector lever with holder into the groove at the front of the base plate.
  4. Fit the bolt and tighten it.
  5. Fit the selector lever and ignition switch in the selector lever housing. Place the sport button's lead in the clip.
  6. NOTE, the selector lever housing does need to be riveted together.
  7. Screw the ignition switch in place.
  8. Fit a cable tie to hold the lead for the lighting in place.
  9. Plug in the electromagnet's connector.
  10. Fit a cable tie through the hole in the gear selector and around the electromagnet cable.
  11. Fit the gear selector casing, see «FITTING»(ref-274852-S06056779792007122400000) .
  12. Fit the selector lever housing, see «FITTING»(ref-274852-S06056779792007122400000) .

  1. Put the gear selector in position N or D.
  2. Remove the screw holding the front part of the gear selector casing.
  3. Remove the front part.
  4. Press up the SPORT button from below.
  5. Unsolder the SPORT button. Lay a guard underneath so the solder does not drip onto the center console.
  6. Dismantle the lock and pull up the release button together with the rear part of the gear selector casing. Leave the electric wires in the casing.

  1. Put in place the electric wiring in the lower part of the casing and fit them to the lever. Lubricate the whole U section where the release button runs with grease part no. 82 93 243. Distribute the grease evenly on all three sides so the release button runs easily. IMPORTANT: Use only grease with the specified part number due to temperature tolerances.
  2. Fit the release button and press it down together with the selector casing until the screw casing is opposite the hole in the gear selector.
  3. Thread the electric wires through the hole and solder on the SPORT button. Lay a guard underneath so that solder does not drop on the center console.
  4. Press in place the SPORT button.
  5. Lay the electric wires in a loop so they do not get pinched and press them into the groove behind the release button.
  6. Fit the lock to the release button.
  7. Fit the front part of the gear selector casing.
  8. Screw together the gear selector.
