Special Tools

J 8001 Dial Indicator Set

Note. The vehicle must rest on a level surface The vehicle must be stable. DO NOT rock the vehicle on the floor.

Scheme 1

Scheme 1: Special Tools
  1. Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to «LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE»(ref-652230-S26645367622014082300000) .
  2. Clean and inspect the ball joint seal for cuts or tears. If the ball joint seal is damaged, replace the ball joint or lower control arm as applicable for this vehicle.
  3. Install the J 8001 dial indicator, to measure the vertical lash of the ball joint.
  4. WARNING: Do not pry in such a way that the ball joint seal is contacted. Damage to the seal may result. Gently lift or pry between the knuckle and the lower control arm to induce ball joint movement, record the measurement
  5. If dial indicator is reading more than 0.5 mm (0.02 in) , replace the ball joint or lower control arm as applicable for this vehicle.

Scheme 2: Electronic Suspension Front Vertical Accelerometer Replacement - Upper

2Electronic Suspension Front Vertical Accelerometer Procedure Disconnect the connector from the sensor.

Preliminary Procedures Raise and support the vehicle. Refer to LIFTING AND JACKING THE VEHICLE . Remove the front tire and wheel assemblies.
1Electronic Suspension Front Position Sensor Fastener Refer to FASTENER CAUTION Tighten 9 N m (80 lb in)
2Electronic Suspension Front Vertical Accelerometer Procedure Remove the connector from the strut. Disconnect the connector from the sensor. The connector has a secondary locking that should be released before turning and releasing the connector.

Scheme 4: Electronic Suspension, Vertical Accelerometer Replacement - Rear

Preliminary Procedures Remove the COVER over the luggage compartment stowage compartment.
1Electronic suspension, screws for rear accelerometer (quantity: 2) Refer to FASTENER CAUTION Tighten 6 Nm (53 in lb)
2Electronic suspension, rear accelerometer Procedure Remove the connector from the rear accelerometer. Remove the accelerometer from the holder.

Preliminary Procedures Remove the rear compartment floor storage compartment. Refer to REAR COMPARTMENT FLOOR STOWAGE COMPARTMENT COVER REPLACEMENT
1Electronic Suspension Control Module Procedure Remove the electrical harness from the control module. Remove the control module from the mounting bracket.

Preliminary Procedures Folder the back on left side of the backseat. Lift the front left side of the luggage compartment trim floor panel and also the damping material.
