- The condition for setting the DTC is no longer present.
- The DTC in the history is deleted after 40 consecutive fault-free ignition cycles.

Circuit/System Testing
- Ignition OFF, all vehicle systems OFF. Disconnect the connector at the S109 Sport Mode switch. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit pin 5 and ground.
- If the reading is 5 ohms or higher: 3.1. Ignition OFF. 3.2. Test for less than 2 ohms in the ground circuit, end to end. 3.3. If the reading is 2 ohms or higher, rectify open circuit/high resistance 3.4. If the reading is lower than 2 ohms rectify open/high resistance at ground connection.
- If the reading is lower than 5 ohms
- Ignition ON.
- Confirm via the diagnostic tool that the parameter for the body control module traction control contact is Inactive.
- If the parameter is not Inactive: 7.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect X2 cable connector at K9 body control module. 7.2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground. 7.3. If the reading is less than infinite, rectify short circuit to ground in the circuit. 7.4. If the resistance is infinite, replace K9 body control module.
- If the parameter is Inactive
- Install a 3A fused jumper wire between the signal circuit terminal 9 and ground.
- Confirm that the diagnostic tool parameter for the body control module traction control switch is Active.
- If the parameter is not Active
- Ignition ON
- If not the specified value, test the signal circuit for a short to ground. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K9 body control module.
- If the parameter is not Active: 14.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect X2 cable connector at K9 body control module - ignition ON. 14.2. Test for lower than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground 14.3. If the reading is 1 V or higher, rectify short circuit to voltage in the circuit. 14.4. If the reading is lower than 1 V: 14.5. Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end. 14.6. If the reading is 2 ohms or higher, rectify open circuit/high resistance in the circuit. 14.7. If the reading is lower than 2 ohms, replace K9 body control module.
- If the parameter is Active
- Test or replace the sport mode contact S109.
Component Testing
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S109 Sport Mode Switch.
- Test whether the resistance between the signal circuit pin 9 and the ground circuit pin 5 is infinite when the contact is in open position.
- If the resistance is lower than infinite
- Replace the sport mode contact S109.
- Test that the resistance is lower than 2 ohms between the signal circuit pin 9 and the ground circuit pin 5 when the contact is closed.
- If the reading is 2 ohms or higher
- Replace the sport mode contact S109.
- If the reading is lower than 2 ohms
- All OK

- A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
- The EBCM will turn OFF the indicator in the next ignition cycle.
Diagnostic Aids
- Do not use a magnet to clean the encoder ring.
- If 2 or more wheel speed sensors are inoperative, diagnose each wheel speed sensor individually.
CONTROL MODULE REFERENCES for scan tool information
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate B5 wheel speed sensor, ignition ON.
- Test for greater than 11 V between the signal circuit terminal B and ground. 2.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K17 EBCM. 2.2. Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit and ground. 2.3. Test for less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit end to end.
- Install a 3 A fused jumper wire at the signal circuit terminal B.
- Verify the scan tool Wheel Speed Sensor parameter changes while rapidly tapping the fused jumper wire to the low reference circuit terminal A. 4.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the K17 EBCM, ignition ON. 4.2. Test for less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground. 4.3. Test for less than 1 V between the low reference circuit and ground. 4.4. Ignition OFF. 4.5. Test for infinite resistance between the low reference circuit and ground. 4.6. Test for less than 2 ohms in the low reference circuit end to end.
- Test or replace the B5 wheel speed sensor.
Note. The following wheel speed sensor test is polarity sensitive. The wheel speed sensor can be permanently damaged if the polarity is reversed during the test.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the appropriate B5 wheel speed sensor.
- Connect a 3 A fused jumper wire between the signal terminal B and 12 V.
- Connect a DMM set to read DC amperage between the low reference terminal A and ground.
- Spin the wheel very slowly.
- Test for a DC current switching between a low value of 4-8 mA and a high value of 11-16 mA.
- All OK.

CONTROL MODULE REFERENCES for scan tool information
- Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF, undo the connector from the EBCM K17. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down.
- Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 16 and ground.
- If the reading is 10 ohms or higher: 3.1. Ignition OFF 3.2. Test for less than 2 ohms in the ground circuit, end to end. 3.3. If the reading is 2 ohms or higher, rectify open/high resistance in the circuit. 3.4. If the reading is less than 2 ohms or higher, rectify open/high resistance at connection to ground
- If the reading is less than 10 ohms
- Verify that a test lamp illuminates between the B+ circuit terminal 1 and ground.
- If the test lamp does not come on and the circuit fuse is OK: 6.1. Ignition OFF 6.2. Test for less than 2 ohms in the B+ circuit, end to end 6.3. If the reading is 2 ohms or higher, rectify open/high resistance in the circuit. 6.4. If the reading is less than 2 ohms or higher, verify that the fuse is not open and that there is power to the fuse
- If the test lamp does not come on and the fuse is open: 7.1. Test for infinite resistance between B+ and ground 7.2. If the reading is less than infinite, rectify short circuit to ground on the circuit. 7.3. If the resistance reading is infinite, replace Q5 brake pressure modulation valve
- If the test lamp illuminates
- Disconnect the K17 electronic brake control module from Q5 brake pressure modulation valve.
- Connect a test lamp between the pins for pump motor on the K17 electronic brake control module. NOTE: To prevent incorrect diagnosis, this step requires use of a GM-approved test lamp
- Connect the cable contact to the K17 electronic brake control module.
- NOTE: The test lamp must be connected to the control module's pump motor pin before turning the ignition ON. Ignition ON.
- Verify that the test lamp is switched ON and OFF when the pump motor voltage is increased using the diagnostic tool. NOTE: The test lamp shines weakly initially until the voltage increases with every press and the light intensity increases.
- If the test lamp does not switch ON and OFF: Replace the K17 electronic brake control module.
- If the test lamp switches ON and OFF
- Replace Q5 brake pressure modulation valve.

- The electronic brake control module recorded an invalid or uneven brake pressure.
- The brake pressure sensor signal is not reasonable with regard to the acceleration/deceleration of the vehicle.
- The brake pressure sensor signal offset is out of specified range.
- The traction control/stability control-active indicator turns ON.
- The electronic brake control module disconnects the traction control and stability control during the ignition cycle.
- The DTC is cleared if a diagnostic test is run and passes.
- The DTC in the history is cleared after 40 consecutive fault-free ignition cycles have taken place.

Antilock Braking System Brake Switch Circuit Not Plausible
Ignition ON.
- The electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects 4 accelerations from standstill up to a vehicle speed exceeding 40 km/h (26 mph) without any changes in the brake light switch signal.
- The electronic brake control module (EBCM) detects the vehicle speed is greater than 20 km/h (13 MPH), the brake pedal is applied for 360 s, and brake pressure is less than 15 bar (218 PSI).
- A current DTC clears when the diagnostic runs and passes.
- The DTC in the history is cleared after 40 consecutive fault-free ignition cycles have taken place.
Action Taken When DTC IS Set
No action taken.
The DTC C0161 5A can be set if the brake pedal is applied while accelerating or the brake pedal position sensor is out of adjustment.

- Ignition ON, verify that DTC C0800 is not present.
- If DTC C0800 is present, refer to «DIAGNOSTIC TROUBLE CODE (DTC) LIST - VEHICLE»(ref-652232-S23450649802014082300000) .
- Verify that DTC C0186 5A, C0196 00, C0196 5A, C019B 5A, C0287 4B, and C0287 5A is not present.
- If any listed DTC is present, perform the «MULTI-AXIS ACCELERATION SENSOR MODULE PROGRAMMING AND SETUP»(ref-652232-S01626282032014082300000) and the «VEHICLE YAW SENSOR LEARN»(ref-652262-S31551183912014082300000) .
- Inspect the B119 Multi-axis Acceleration Sensor for correct installation.
- If loose or incorrect installation is diagnosed, correct the installation of the component and perform the «VEHICLE YAW SENSOR LEARN»(ref-652262-S31551183912014082300000) .
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the B119 Multi-axis Acceleration Sensor.
- Ignition OFF and all vehicle systems OFF. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems to power down. Test for less than 10 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 6 and ground.
- If the value is greater than specified, test the ground circuit for an open circuit/high resistance.
- Ignition ON, test for greater than 10 V between the 12 V reference circuit terminal 5 and ground.
- If less than the specified value, test the 12 V reference circuit for a short to ground or an open/high resistance. If the circuit tests normal, replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM).
- If all circuits test normal, replace the B119 Multi-axis Acceleration Sensor and verify the DTC does not reset.
- If the DTC resets, replace the K17 Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM).

The ECM detects a fault that prevents it from performing a traction control function and sends a serial data message to the EBCM indicating that torque reduction is not allowed.

Stability control is active for more than 15 s.
- The traction control/stability control-active indicator turns ON.
- The EBCM disables the stability control for the duration of the ignition cycle.

- If loose or incorrect installation Correct the installation or replace the component.

- Switch OFF the ignition, switch OFF all vehicle systems and disconnect the harness connector at the B99 steering wheel angle sensor. It may take up to 2 minutes for all vehicle systems

Note. Circuit/System verification must take place before Circuit/system testing.
- With the ignition OFF, undo the cable contact from the sport mode switch S109. It may take up to 2 minutes for all systems to power down.
- Test for less than 5 ohms between the ground circuit terminal 5 and ground.
- If equal to or higher than 5 ohms: 3.1. Ignition OFF. 3.2. Check that there is less than 2 ohms in the ground circuit from one end to the other. 3.3. If there is 2 ohms or higher, repair the resistance in the circuit. 3.4. If there is less than 2 ohms, repair the resistance in the ground circuit.
- If the resistance is lower than 5 ohms
- Ignition ON.
- Use the scanning tool to check that the BCM's TCS contact parameter is Inactive.
- If not Deactivated: 7.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect X2 terminal block K9 on the BCM. 7.2. Test for infinite resistance between signal circuit and ground. 7.3. If there is lower than infinite resistance, repair the cable to the ground point on the circuit. 7.4. If there is infinite resistance, replace the K9 BCM.
- If Inactive
- Install a 3 A fuse between the signal circuit in terminal 9 and ground.
- Use the scanning tool to check that the BCM's TCS contact parameter is Active.
- If it is not Active: 11.1. Ignition OFF, disconnect X2 connector on the K9 BCM, Ignition ON. 11.2. Check that there is less than 1 V between the signal circuit and ground. 11.3. If there is 1 V or higher, repair the power cable to the circuit. 11.4. If there is less than 1 V 11.5. Check whether there is less than 2 ohms in the signal circuit, end to end. 11.6. If there is 2 ohms or higher, repair the resistance in the circuit. 11.7. If there is less than 2 ohms, replace the K9 BCM.
- If Active
- Check or replace the S109 sport mode switch.
- Ignition OFF, disconnect the harness connector at the S109 Sport Mode Switch.
- Test for infinite resistance between the signal circuit terminal 9 and the ground circuit terminal 5 with the switch in the released position.
- If lower than infinite resistance. Replace the S109 sport mode contact.
- Test that the resistance is lower than 2 ohms between the signal circuit's connection 9 and ground connection 5 when the sport mode contact is closed.
- If the reading is 2 ohms or higher Replace the S109 sport mode contact.
- If the reading is less than 2 ohms
- All OK.
