Procedures after disconnecting the battery

  1. Clear diagnostic trouble codes in all systems. IMPORTANT: Some diagnostic trouble codes can be generated if there is a voltage drop. These diagnostic trouble codes can be ignored and will not be regenerated after deletion.
  2. Set the clock as follows: 2.a. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. 2.b. Press CUSTOMIZE on SIDC (SID control panel). 2.c. Turn the INFO knob until the displays shows "Clock/Alarm". Press to confirm "OK". 2.d. Turn the INFO knob to "Set Clock". Press "OK". 2.e. Turn the INFO knob to "Manual" or "RDS adjust" and set the correct time. Press "OK".
  3. Set the date as follows: 3.a. Turn the ignition key to the ON position. 3.b. Turn the INFO knob to "DATE". 3.c. Press the INFO knob until the display shows "YEAR 2000". 3.d. Turn the INFO knob to the correct year. Press to confirm "OK". 3.e. Turn the INFO knob to the correct month. Press "OK". 3.f. Turn the INFO knob to the correct date. Press "OK". IMPORTANT: Draw the customer's attention to the fact that all remote controls must be synchronized by placing the key/keys in the ignition lock. If this is not done, the remote control will not work.
  4. Synchronize the remote control's code by inserting the key in the ignition switch. WARNING: The trap protection is not active until the window lifters have been calibrated after a power failure.
  5. Cars with pinch protection: Program the pinch protection, see «CALIBRATION OF PINCH PROTECTION (2006)»(ref-275877-S29850865622007122900000) or «CALIBRATION OF PINCH PROTECTION (2007)»(ref-279934-S23310968722008021800000) .

  1. Remove the cap on the expansion tank.
  2. Fit «83 96 160 PRESSURE TEST ADAPTER, COOLING SYSTEM, B207»(ref-275852-S29056256252007122900000) to the expansion tank.
  3. Fit «30 05 469 ADAPTER, COOLING SYSTEM TESTER»(ref-275852-S31629170762007122900000) to adapter 83 96 160.
  4. Connect «30 05 477 COOLING SYSTEM TESTER»(ref-275852-S06642319402007122900000) .
  5. Pump a pressure of approx. 1 bar.
  6. Check that the pressure in the system does not drop.
  7. To find any leaks in the cooling system, continue to pressurize it while inspecting for leaks.
  8. Release the pressure and remove the tools.
  9. Fit the cap on the expansion tank.

Bleeding

  1. Fill the system to the MAX mark using 400 131 397 Coolant. Close the expansion tank cap (coolant is blended - equal parts coolant and water).
  2. Connect an exhaust hose.
  3. Start the engine and let it run for a short while at varying speeds.
  4. Top up with coolant ant screw on the expansion tank cap.
  5. Run the engine at varying speeds until the thermostat opens (radiator fan has started).
  6. Turn off the engine and top up with coolant to MAX if necessary.

  1. Undo the cap on the expansion tank and release the pressure.
  2. Raise the car.
  3. Undo the right-hand side of the spoiler shield.
  4. Place a receptacle under the car, connect a hose and drain the cooling system.
  5. Lower the car.
  6. Remove the upper engine cover.
  7. Detach the bleeder hose and the turbocharger cooling return hose from the expansion tank.
  8. Unplug the upper connector of the engine control module.
  9. Unplug the atmospheric pressure sensor connector (539).
  10. Detach and move aside the cable duct.
  11. Detach and move aside the plate bracket from the intake manifold.
  12. Detach the coolant hose with quick coupling from the expansion tank.
  13. Move up the expansion tank and unplug the level sensor connector.
  14. Remove the expansion tank.

  1. Plug in the level sensor connector and fit the expansion tank.
  2. Attach the coolant hose with quick coupling to the expansion tank.
  3. Fit the plate bracket to the intake manifold.
  4. Fit the cable duct.
  5. Plug in the atmospheric pressure sensor connector (539).
  6. Plug in the upper connector of the engine control module.
  7. Attach the bleeder hose and turbocharger cooling return hose to the expansion tank.
  8. Fit the upper engine cover.
  9. Carry out «Cooling System, pressure testing»(ref-275856-S41791158062007122900000) .
  10. Top up the coolant. See «BLEEDING AND CHARGING THE COOLING SYSTEM»(ref-275856-S10550426312007122900000) , B284.
  11. Replace the upper engine cover.
  12. Fit the right-hand side of the spoiler shield.

Lower radiator hose

  1. Undo the expansion tank cap and release the pressure.
  2. Remove the «SPOILER SHIELD, FRONT»(ref-275838-S05457380322007122900000) .
  3. Place a receptacle under the car, connect a hose and drain the cooling system.
  4. Remove the lower radiator mounting on the left side. Detach the radiator hose from the radiator.
  5. Lower the car.
  6. Remove «BATTERY (2006)»(ref-275860-S17428070512007122900000) or «BATTERY (2007)»(ref-279916-S20608419722008021800000) and «BATTERY COVER, BOTTOM, B284E (2006)»(ref-275860-S10461848692007122900000) or «BATTERY COVER, BOTTOM (2007)»(ref-279916-S39619585692008021800000) .
  7. Detach the turbocharger delivery hose from the turbocharger.
  8. Detach the radiator hose from the thermostat housing pipe.

  1. Attach the radiator hose to the thermostat housing pipe.
  2. Attach the turbocharger delivery hose to the turbocharger. Twist the recess on the hose until it aligns with the marking on the turbocharger pipe connection.
  3. Fit the «BATTERY COVER, LOWER SECTION (2006)»(ref-275860-S00947484242007122900000) and «BATTERY COVER, BOTTOM (2007)»(ref-279916-S39619585692008021800000) and «BATTERY (2006)»(ref-275860-S17428070512007122900000) or «BATTERY (2007)»(ref-279916-S20608419722008021800000) .
  4. Raise the car.
  5. Fit the radiator hose with clamp to the radiator.
  6. Fit the lower radiator mounting on the left side. Tightening torque 47 Nm (35 lbf ft)
  7. Fit the «SPOILER SHIELD, FRONT»(ref-275838-S05457380322007122900000) .
  8. Lower the car.
  9. Pressure test the cooling system, see «Cooling System, pressure testing»(ref-275856-S41791158062007122900000) .
  10. Top up coolant. See «Bleeding And Charging The Cooling System»(ref-275856-S10550426312007122900000) (B284).
  11. If the battery has been disconnected, see «Procedures after disconnecting the battery»(ref-275856-S36517051262007122900000) .

Idle speed compensation

In order to maintain a constant idling speed when the radiator fans are turned on or off, there is a 3 second delay before the fans are engaged. During this time, the engine control module will start to compensate for the increased load so that the idling speed will not drop when the radiator fans start.

RADIATOR FAN CURRENT CONSUMPTION REFERENCE

The maximum current for speed 4 must not exceed 65A.

Coolant temperature

The coolant temperature gauge provides the driver with information on the engine coolant temperature.

The coolant temperature gauge is supplied with power and is controlled by the main instrument unit.

The engine control module sends continuous information on the bus concerning the coolant temperature.

The cooling temperature gauge scale is divided by 5 fixed points. The main instrument is programmed to guide the gauge needle to the fixed points at specified temperatures in order to give stable indication at normal coolant temperatures.

The following break points are programmed in the main instrument unit (factory setting)

The value from the temperature sensor is used for

  1. controlling the radiator fans
  2. determining injection duration during preinjection
  3. determining injection duration during starter motor cranking
  4. after-start enrichment
  5. determining when closed loop should be engaged
  6. correcting idling speed.

The temperature sensor is of NTC type.

Fuse holder for two maxi fuses, blade type.

The fuse holder is integrated in the adapter harness to the engine's wiring harness. The high-speed fan is connected across the upper fuse and the low-speed fan across the lower.
