Note. The reinforcing bow is located between the third and fourth bow. This is not counted as a bow.

  1. Operate the soft top half way down and secure it with «82 93 847 SOFT TOP SUPPORT»(ref-275878-S42515089112007122900000) to prevent it falling down when the hydraulic pressure drops.
  2. Remove the seal by pulling it out of the middle part of the U-shaped rail. Unhook the upper part of the seal from the fastener. Let the seal hang.
  3. Unhook the outer roof attaching profiles from the rear rails.
  4. Remove the mounting for the hydraulic lines from the right-hand side of the reinforcing bow.
  5. Remove the reinforcing bow bolts on the rear rails. Lift out the reinforcing bow.

  1. Insert the reinforcing bow between the insulation of the outer roof and the headlining.
  2. Put the reinforcing bow and the bows' guide straps in mounting position. Fit the bolts. Tightening torque: 10 Nm
  3. Fit the hydraulic line holder on the right-hand side of the reinforcing bow.
  4. Hook the outer roof attaching profiles to the rear rails.
  5. Fit the rear rail seals. Hook the top part of the seal to the mounting and then press it into the rail
  6. Remove the soft top support and raise the soft top.

  1. Remove «HEADLINING»(ref-275878-S17859058112007122900000) until the headlining plastic holder can be removed from the fourth bow.
  2. Detach the outer roof from the fourth bow.
  3. Remove the seal by pulling it out of the middle part of the U-shaped rail. Unhook the upper part of the seal from the fastener. Let the seal hang.
  4. Unhook the outer roof attaching profiles from the rear rails.
  5. Remove the hydraulic line mounting from the right-hand side of the fourth bow.
  6. Drill out the blind rivets for the fourth bow guide strap.
  7. Remove the reinforcing bow bolts on one side.
  8. Remove the retaining clips and the fourth bow.

  1. Place the fourth bow in mounting position. Fit the retaining clips.
  2. Put the reinforcing bow and the bow's guide straps in mounting position. Fit the bolts.
  3. Fit the blind rivets to the fourth bow guide strap.
  4. Fit the mounting to the hydraulic lines on the right-hand side of the fourth bow.
  5. Hook the outer roof attaching profiles to the rear rails.
  6. Fit the rear rail seals. Hook the top part of the seal to the mounting and then press it into the rail
  7. Remove the soft top support and raise the soft top fully.
  8. Affix new double-sided adhesive tape to the fourth bow. Fold the fabric tabs of the outer roof around the fourth bow. Observe the center markings on the parts.
  9. Operate the soft top half way down and secure it with the soft top support to prevent it falling down when the hydraulic pressure drops.
  10. Fit «HEADLINING»(ref-275878-S17859058112007122900000) .

  3. Remove the seal by pulling it out of the middle part of the U-shaped rail. Unhook the upper part of the seal from the fastener. Let the seal hang.
  4. Unhook the outer roof attaching profiles from the rear rails.
  5. Drill out the blind rivets for the fifth bow guide strap and cable.
  6. Remove the lock clip and fastening pin for the fifth bow.
  7. Remove the fifth bow.

  1. Fit the fifth bow fastening pin and lock clip.
  2. Fit the fifth bow guide strap and cable with blind rivets.
  3. Hook the outer roof attaching profiles to the rear rails.
  4. Fit the rear rail seals. Hook the top part of the seal to the mounting and then press it into the rail.
  5. Remove the soft top support and raise the soft top fully.
  6. Affix new double-sided adhesive tape to the fifth bow. Fold the fabric tabs of the outer roof around the fifth bow. Observe the center markings on the parts.
  7. Operate the soft top half way down and secure it with the soft top support to prevent it falling down when the hydraulic pressure drops.
  8. Fit «HEADLINING»(ref-275878-S17859058112007122900000) .

  1. Open the soft top cover. Raise the sixth bow and support it with the soft top support.
  2. Undo the headlining plastic clip
  3. Remove the headlining edge reinforcing profile by pulling it out of the groove.
  4. Pull out the sixth bow seal from the mounting groove and leave it hanging.
  5. Pull out the sixth bow lock strip from the mounting groove.
  6. Use the removal tool to remove the outer roof edging from the sixth bow. Pull out the outer roof locking profile from the groove and remove the outer roof from the sixth bow.
  7. Remove the bolts for the sixth bow. Remove the sixth bow. IMPORTANT: Look out for the soft top support that is propping up the sixth bow.

  1. Put the sixth bow in mounting position. Fit the sixth bow bolts.
  2. Raise the sixth bow and support it with the soft top support.
  3. Place the outer roof in the sixth bow groove. Note the center markings on the parts.
  4. Place the outer roof edging into the mounting groove on the sixth bow with the help of an assistant. Start at the middle and continue outward. Press in the edging using the removal tool.
  5. Fit the lock strip using the removal tool into the mounting groove to lock the outer roof edging to the sixth bow.
  6. Fit the headlining edge reinforcing profile at the rear of the sixth bow groove by pressing it in. Start at the middle and observe the center markings on the parts.
  7. Fit the headlining Velcro fastener.
  8. Remove the soft top support and raise the soft top.

  1. Open the soft top fully and leave the soft top cover open.
  2. Remove the cover plate clip.
  3. Carefully remove the cover plate.
  4. Remove the cover by pulling it backwards.
  5. Undo the first bow plastic plugs.
  6. Unhook both the headlining band eyelets.
  7. Detach the headlining from the first bow hooks.
  8. Operate the soft top half way down and secure it with «82 93 847 SOFT TOP SUPPORT»(ref-275878-S42515089112007122900000) .
  9. Use «84 71 179 REMOVAL TOOL, CLIPS»(ref-275878-S20064103742007122900000) and remove the second bow plastic clip.
  10. Pull the headlining plastic holder from the second bow.
  11. Use «82 93 474 REMOVAL TOOL»(ref-275878-S00585177002007122900000) to remove the third bow plastic clip.
  12. Pull the headlining plastic holder from the third bow.
  13. Detach the headlining from the rear rails by puling it out of the mounting on both sides.
  14. Pull the headlining rubber straps out of the headlining attaching eyelets.
  15. Use «82 93 474 REMOVAL TOOL»(ref-275878-S00585177002007122900000) to remove the plastic clip in the fourth bow.
  16. Pull the headlining plastic holder from the fourth bow.
  17. Remove the soft top support and close the soft top.
  18. Raise the sixth bow and support it with the soft top support.
  19. Undo the headlining plastic clip.
  20. Pull the headlining edging from the sixth bow groove.
  21. Remove the soft top support and lower the sixth bow.
  22. Operate the soft top half way down and secure it with «82 93 847 SOFT TOP SUPPORT»(ref-275878-S42515089112007122900000) .
  23. Detach the fabric strips from the second, third, fourth and fifth bow.
  24. Unhook the insulation from the first bow.
  25. Undo the Velcro fastener on the linkage system for the front rail.
  26. Undo the double-sided adhesive tape from the first bow. Lift off the fabric from the edge.
  27. Unhook the tensioning cables from the first bow.
  28. Remove the rear rail seals. Remove the seal by pulling it out of the middle of the U-shaped rail. Unhook the top part of the seal from its mounting. Leave the seal hanging.
  29. Remove the soft top support. Raise the sixth bow and secure it with the soft top support.
  30. Pull out the sixth bow lock strip from the mounting groove.
  31. Use the removal tool to remove the outer roof edging strip from the sixth bow.
  32. Remove the soft top support and open the soft top half way. Secure with the soft top support.
  33. Unhook the outer roof attaching profiles from the rear rails.
  34. Remove the Velcro fastener for the rear rails.
  35. Remove the tension cables from the rear rail.
  36. Remove the soft top support and close the soft top.
  37. Drill out the blind rivets for the rear window guide straps.
  38. Dismantle the electrical connection for the heated rear window.
  39. Remove the cable ties from the rear window mounting frame.
  40. Remove the window frame screws. Pull out the straps from the insulation pocket.
  41. Lift away the outer roof complete together with rear window with the help of an assistant.

Scheme 451: Dismantling the outer roof and rear window
  1. Place the complete outer roof and rear window on a work bench. Manufacture a tool as illustrated.
  2. Lift up the clip with the tool and place a knife underneath. Pull out the clip with the tool, following after with the knife to protect the window frame.
  3. Continue in the same manner with the remaining clips.
  4. Lift away the window and change the outer roof, rear window or rear window seal as necessary.

Only the latch fitting on the left-hand side of the windscreen frame has position sensors.

  1. Remove «WINDSCREEN FRAME UPPER TRIM, CV (2006)»(ref-275837-S35177160812007122900000) or «WINDSCREEN FRAME UPPER TRIM, CV (2007)»(ref-279932-S23876210592008021800000) .
  2. Unplug the position sensor connector.
  3. Remove the position sensor by pressing in the lock tab with a screwdriver.

  1. Fit the position sensor.
  2. Plug in the position sensor connector.
  3. Fit «WINDSCREEN FRAME UPPER TRIM, CV (2006)»(ref-275837-S35177160812007122900000) or «WINDSCREEN FRAME UPPER TRIM, CV (2007)»(ref-279932-S23876210592008021800000) .
  4. Test the operation of the soft top.
  5. Connect the diagnostics tool and erase any diagnostic trouble code.

  1. Open the soft top and leave the soft top cover up.
  2. Remove the cover plate clip.
  3. Remove the cover plate.
  4. Remove the cover by pulling it backwards.
  5. Unplug the position sensor cable. Remove the sensor cable from the clips. Withdraw the sensor cable from the holder.
  6. Remove the position sensor from the holder.

  1. Fit the position sensor.
  2. Plug in the position sensor cable. Fit the cable into the clips.
  3. Press the position sensor cable into the holder. Check that the position sensor is correctly adjusted, see «ADJUSTMENT OF POSITION SENSOR, FIRST BOW LOCKED (561C)»(ref-275878-S33993707272007122900000) .
  4. Fit the cover.
  5. Put the cover plate in mounting position.
  6. Fit the cover plate clip.
  7. Operate the soft top to check the operation of the soft top.
  8. Test the operation of the soft top.
  9. Connect the diagnostics tool and erase any diagnostic trouble code.

Scheme 458: Adjustment and checking of position sensor, first bow locked

  1. Open the boot lid and take out the «EMERGENCY OPERATION»(ref-275878-S16454372452007122900000) tool.
  2. Open the soft top and leave the soft top cover open.
  3. Remove the cover plate clip.
  4. Remove the cover plate.
  5. Remove the front cover by pulling it backwards.
  6. Lock the lock hooks by using the emergency opening tool. The lock hooks must be in fully locked position.
  7. Check the measurement between the sensor and the drive control using a feeler gauge. The measurement must be 0.7 mm. Adjust if necessary as follows: Unscrew the sensor's screw. Use a feeler gauge to set the correct measurement between the sensor and the drive control. The measurement must be 0.7 mm.
  8. Fit the front cover.
  9. Fit the cover plate.
  10. Fit the cover plate clip.
