GENERATOR RATINGS

3.7L/4.7L

1. Position the generator to the engine and install the two horizontal bolts and the one vertical bolt. Tighten all three bolts to 55 N.m (40 ft. lbs.).
2. Snap the field wire connector into the rear of the generator.
3. Install the B+ terminal eyelet to the generator output stud. Tighten to 12 N.m (8.8 ft. lbs.). CAUTION: Never force a belt over a pulley rim using a screwdriver. The synthetic fiber of the belt can be damaged. CAUTION: When installing a serpentine accessory drive belt, the belt must be routed correctly. The water pump may be rotating in the wrong direction if the belt is installed incorrectly, causing the engine to overheat. Refer to belt routing label in engine compartment, or refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-457792-S18686393612012030200000) in Cooling System.
4. Install the accessory drive belt. Refer to «BELT, Serpentine , Installation»(ref-457792-S21966014282012030200000) .
5. Connect the negative battery cable.

5.7L

1. Position the generator (2) into the mounting bracket and install the two retaining bolts (1,3) and tighten the bolts to 41 N.m (30 ft. lbs.).
2. Install the support bracket (2) to the front of the generator and install the bolt and nuts (3) and tighten the bolt and nuts to 41 N.m (30 ft. lbs.).
3. Install the field wire electrical connector into the generator (3).
4. Connect the B+ terminal eyelet onto the generator output stud and install the retaining nut (2) and tighten the nut to 12 N.m (9 ft. lbs.).
5. Snap the plastic insulator cap onto the B+ output terminal (1). CAUTION: Never force a belt over a pulley rim using a screwdriver. The synthetic fiber of the belt can be damaged. CAUTION: When installing a serpentine accessory drive belt, the belt must be routed correctly. The water pump may be rotating in the wrong direction if the belt is installed incorrectly, causing the engine to overheat. Refer to belt routing label in engine compartment, or refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-457792-S18686393612012030200000) in Cooling System. CAUTION: Do not let the tensioner arm snap back to the freearm position, severe damage may occur to the tensioner.
6. Insert a suitable square drive ratchet into the square hole on the belt tensioner arm (7).
7. Rotate the tensioner (7) clockwise until the accessory drive belt (4) can be install onto the generator pulley. Refer to «BELT, Serpentine , Installation»(ref-457792-S21966014282012030200000) .
8. Connect the negative battery cable (1).

DIESEL

1. Position generator to upper and lower mounting brackets and install upper bolt and lower bolt / nut.
2. Tighten all bolts/nut to 30 ft. lbs. (41 N.m).
3. Snap field wire connector into rear of generator.
4. Install B+ terminal eyelet to generator output stud. Tighten mounting nut. Refer to «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS - GENERATOR/CHARGING SYSTEM»(ref-457799-S08963307762012030200000) . CAUTION: Never force a belt over a pulley rim using a screwdriver. The synthetic fiber of the belt can be damaged. CAUTION: When installing a serpentine accessory drive belt, the belt must be routed correctly. The water pump may be rotating in the wrong direction if the belt is installed incorrectly, causing the engine to overheat. Refer to belt routing label in engine compartment, or refer to «REMOVAL»(ref-457792-S18686393612012030200000) in Cooling System.
5. Install generator drive belt. Refer to «INSTALLATION»(ref-457792-S21966014282012030200000) for procedure.
6. Install both negative battery cables to both batteries.
