Installing multi-functional switch
Installation Location
Note. The color markings, match points -arrows- , on the cardan shaft and on the all-wheel final drive flange must be aligned. This will neutralize the residual imbalance of the components.
Note. Screws which are tightened with a torque angle must be replaced with new ones.
1. Put multi-functional switch on the selector shaft.
2. Adjust multi-functional switch. > 373115 Adjusting multi-functional switch .
Note. When installing the shield, ensure that all fastening parts --> Mounting element shield are present and inserted correctly. see scheme 162
3. Connect cable plug to multi-functional switch.
4. Install shield on the transmission. To do this, screw in three fastening screws -Arrow-. --> Tightening torque: 10 (7.5 ftlb.) Nm see scheme 163
5. Fix cardan shaft with new screws to the front-axle final drive. --> Initial tightening: 30 (22 ftlb.) Nm --> Final tightening: 90 angular degree
6. Install shield fastening screws -Arrows- on all-wheel final drive. --> Tightening torque: 10 (7.5 ftlb.) Nm see scheme 165
7. Functional test of gear selecting system
- Will the vehicle start?
- Do all the selector lever positions work?
1. Fit engine guard. Refer to 10 80 19 Removing and installing engine guard - as of MY 2003 (All Models) .

Installation Location
1. Move selector lever to position N.

2. Remove shield on the transmission. To do this, unscrew three fastening screws -Arrow-. see scheme 167
3. Pull off cable on multi-functional switch.
4. Remove cap nut, cap, nut with tab washer and rubber washer on the multi-functional switch.
5. Unscrew fastening screws on the multi-functional switch -Arrow- and remove switch. see scheme 169
Installation Location
1. Put multi-functional switch on the selector shaft.
2. Adjust multi-functional switch. > 373115 Adjusting multi-functional switch
3. Position cable on multi-functional switch.
4. Install shield on the transmission. To do this, screw in three fastening screws -Arrow-. --> Tightening torque: 10 (7.5 ftlb.) Nm see scheme 171
5. Functional test of gear selecting system
- Will the vehicle start?
- Do all the selector lever positions work?

Installation Location
1. Move selector lever to position N.
2. Remove shield on the transmission. To do this, unscrew three fastening screws -Arrow-. (Scheme 138)
3. Pull off cable to multi-functional switch.
4. Remove cap nut, cap, nut with tab washer and rubber washer on the multi-functional switch.
5. Loosen fastening screws -Arrow-. see scheme 175
6. Position special tool adjusting tool T10173 on shaft and fix with screw -Arrow-. see scheme 176
7. Screw in fastening screws -Arrow- and remove special tool. --> Tightening torque: 5 (3.5 ftlb.) Nm see scheme 175
8. Install cap nut, cap, nut with tab washer and rubber washer on the multi-functional switch. --> Tightening torque: 7 (5 ftlb.) Nm --> Tightening torque: 15 (11 ftlb.) Nm
9. Connect compact connector to multi-functional switch.
10. Install cover plate on transmission. To do this, screw in three fastening screws -Arrow-. --> Tightening torque: 10 (7.5 ftlb.) Nm see scheme 179
