(1) With light pressure applied to center of belt. Power steering pump belt tension is not adjustable. (2) If alternator belt is too loose, take one shim from between belt pulley and mount it in the front of the foremost (frontmost) half of the belt pulley. DO NOT alter the total number of shims (6). This procedure correctly increases belt tension.

Check engine compression with engine at normal operating temperature and specified cranking speed, all spark plugs removed (on dual plugs, remove exhaust side only) and throttle wide open.
