Removal Procedure
- Disconnect cable from battery negative terminal.
- Remove No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.
- Remove air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.
- Remove air cleaner case.
- Remove ECM.
- Separate the wire harness clamp.
- Disconnect the 2 ECM connectors.
- Push the locks on the 2 levers, then raise the levers, and disconnect the 2 ECM connectors.
- Remove the 3 bolts and the ECM.
- Remove the 4 screws and 2 ECM brackets.
Installation Procedure
- Install ECM.
- Install the 2 ECM brackets onto the ECM with the 4 screws.
- Install the ECM with the 3 bolts. Tighten: 8.0 N.m (71 lb in)
- Connect the 2 ECM connectors.
- Connect the 2 ECM connectors and lower the 2 levers.
- Install the wire harness clamp.
- Install air cleaner case.
- Install air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.
- Install No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.
- Connect cable to battery negative terminal.
- Perform initialization. IMPORTANT: Initialization cannot be completed by only removing the cable from the battery.
- Perform RESET MEMORY (AT initialization) when replacing the ECM.
- Perform REGISTRATION (VIN registration) when replacing the ECM.
- Remove engine cover.
- Drain engine coolant.
- Remove air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.
- Remove air cleaner case.
- Disconnect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
- Remove the engine coolant temperature sensor and gasket.
- Install the engine coolant temperature sensor through a new gasket. Tighten: 20 N.m (14 lb ft)
- Connect the engine coolant temperature sensor connector.
- Install air cleaner case.
- Install air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.
- Add engine coolant.
- Inspect for coolant leak.
- Install engine cover.
- Remove mass air flow meter.
- Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector.
- Remove the 2 screws and mass air flow meter.
- Install mass air flow meter
- Install the mass air flow meter with the 2 screws. Tighten: 1.0 N.m (9 lb in)
- Connect the mass air flow meter connector.
- Remove the 4 bolts and remove the No. 1 exhaust manifold heat insulator.
- Disconnect the air fuel ratio sensor connector and wire harness clamp.
- Using SST , remove the air fuel ratio sensor.
- Using SST , install the air fuel ratio sensor. Tighten: Without SST 44 N.m (32 lb ft) Tighten: With SST 40 N.m (30 lb ft)
- Connect the air fuel ratio sensor connector and wire harness clamp.
- Install the No. 1 exhaust manifold heat insulator with the 4 bolts. Tighten: 12 N.m (9 lb ft)
- Inspect for exhaust gas leaks.
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
- Separate the wire harness grommet.
- Remove the heated oxygen sensor for AWD.
- Using SST , remove the heated oxygen sensor.
- Disconnect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
- Remove the heated oxygen sensor for FWD.
- Using SST , remove the heated oxygen sensor.
- Install the heated oxygen sensor for AWD.
- Using SST , install the heated oxygen sensor. Tighten: Without SST tighten to 44 N.m (32 lb ft) With SST tighten to 40 N.m (30 lb ft)
- Connect the wire harness grommet.
- Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
- Install heated oxygen sensor for FWD.
- Using SST , install the heated oxygen sensor. Tighten: Without SST tighten to 44 N.m (32 lb ft) With SST tighten to 40 N.m (30 lb ft)
- Connect the heated oxygen sensor connector.
- Inspect for exhaust gas leaks.
- Remove accelerator pedal assembly.
- Disconnect the accelerator pedal position sensor connector.
- Remove the 2 bolts and accelerator pedal.
- Install accelerator pedal assembly.
- Install the accelerator pedal assembly with the 2 bolts. Tighten: 5.5 N.m (49 lb in)
- Install the accelerator pedal assembly connector.
- Drain engine coolant.
- Remove engine cover.
- Remove air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.
- Disconnect the mass air flow meter connector.
- Separate the 2 wire harness clamps.
- Disconnect the NO. 1 vacuum switching valve connector and the 2 vacuum hoses.
- Disconnect the ventilation hose.
- Loosen the NO. 1 air cleaner hose clamp, and unlock the 3 air cleaner assembly clamps and remove the air cleaner cap sub-assembly with NO. 1 hose.
- Remove throttle body assembly.
- Disconnect the 2 water by-pass hoses.
- Disconnect the throttle body assembly connector.
- Disconnect the throttle body hose.
- Remove the 4 bolts and throttle body assembly.
- Remove the gasket from the intake manifold.
- Install throttle body assembly.
- Install a new gasket onto the intake manifold.
- Install the throttle body assembly with the 4 bolts. Tighten: 30 N.m (22 lb ft)
- Connect the throttle body hose.
- Connect the throttle body connector.
- Connect the 2 water by-pass hoses.
- Install air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.
- Install the air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose and lock the 3 clamps.
- Tighten the air cleaner hose clamp.
- Connect the ventilation hose.
- Connect the 2 vacuum hoses and NO. 1 vacuum switching valve connector.
- Connect the 2 wire harness clamps and the mass air flow meter connector.
- Add engine coolant.
- Inspect for coolant leak.
- Install engine cover sub-assembly.
- Perform initialization.
Fuel Pressure Gage Installation and Removal
Special Tools
- J 34730-1A Fuel Pressure Gage
- J 42982 Fuel Pressure Gage Adapter
- J 43178 Fuel Line Disconnect Tool
- Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to «Fuel Pressure Relief»(ref-341905-S40729954492009091700000) .
- Remove the engine cover.
- Remove the quick connect coupling cover of the fuel feed hose.
- Using the J 43178 , disconnect the quick connect coupling of the fuel feed hose from the fuel feed pipe of the fuel rail. Use a shop towel in order to catch any remaining fuel that may leak. Refer to «Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service»(ref-341905-S20287292102009091700000) .
- Install the J 42982 between the fuel feed pipe of the fuel rail and of the fuel feed hose.
- Install the J 34730-1A to the J 42982 , and tighten securely.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten: Tighten the retainer for the negative battery cable terminal to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
- Turn ON the ignition in order to pressurize the fuel system.
- Turn OFF the ignition.
- Check for any fuel leaks.
- Relieve the fuel pressure. Refer to the «Fuel Pressure Relief»(ref-341905-S40729954492009091700000) .
- Remove the J 34730-1A from the J 42982 .
- Using the J 43178 , disconnect the quick connect coupling of the J 42982 from the fuel feed pipe of the fuel rail. Use a shop towel in order to catch any remaining fuel that may leak.
- Disconnect the quick connect coupling of the fuel feed hose from the J 42982 , and remove the adapter. Use a shop towel in order to catch any remaining fuel that may leak.
- Connect the quick-connect fitting of the fuel feed hose (2) to the fuel feed pipe (1) of the fuel rail. Refer to «Metal Collar Quick Connect Fitting Service»(ref-341905-S20287292102009091700000) .
- Install the cover for the quick connect coupling of the fuel feed hose.
- Connect the negative battery cable. Tighten: Tighten the retainer for the negative battery cable terminal to 15 N.m (11 lb ft).
- Turn ON the ignition in order to pressurize the fuel system.
- Turn OFF the ignition.
- Check for any fuel leaks.
- Install the engine cover.
| IMPORTANT | Before servicing fuel system connections, relieve the fuel system pressure. Refer to Fuel Pressure Relief . |
- Grasp both sides of the fitting. Twist the female connector 1/4 turn in each direction in order to loosen any dirt within the fitting.
- Blow any dirt out of the fitting using compressed air.
- Insert the J 43178 tool into the female connector. Push the tool inward in order to release the locking tabs.
- Pull the connection apart.
- Using a clean shop towel, wipe off the male pipe end.
- Inspect both ends of the fitting for dirt and for burrs. Clean or replace the components if necessary.
- Apply a few drops of clean engine oil onto the male pipe end.
- Push both sides of the fitting together in order to cause the retaining tabs to snap into place.
- After installation, pull both sides of the fitting to make sure the connection is secure.
- Grasp both sides of the quick connect fitting and twist 1/4 turn in each direction in order to loosen any dirt.
- Remove any dirt, dust, or other foreign material from the quick connect fitting with compressed air.
- Squeeze the release tabs on the plastic retainer.
- Pull the quick connect fuel fitting apart. Use a shop towel to catch any remaining fuel that may leak from the fuel line and the fitting.
- Apply a few drops of clean engine oil to the end of the male fuel pipe.
- Insert the male fuel pipe into the quick connect fitting.
- Push both sides of the quick connect fitting together until the fitting clicks.
- Pull and push repeatedly on both sides of the quick connect fitting in order to ensure that the connection is secure.
- Remove the rear seat cushion assembly. Refer to «Rear Seat Cushion Replacement»(ref-341872-S30349220412009091700000) .
- Remove the rear floor service hole cover for AWD.
- Discharge the fuel system pressure. Refer to «Fuel Pressure Relief»(ref-341905-S40729954492009091700000) .
- Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
- Disconnect the fuel tank main tube subassembly.
- Disconnect the fuel tank vent hose for FWD.
- Remove the fuel pump gage retainer for AWD.
- Remove the fuel pump gage retainer for FWD.
- Remove the right fuel sender gage assembly for AWD.
- Remove the fuel suction tube assembly for AWD.
- Remove the fuel suction tube assembly for FWD.
- Drain the fuel.
- Remove the center exhaust pipe assembly for AWD.
- Remove the center exhaust pipe assembly for FWD.
- Remove the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly for AWD.
- Remove the 4 bolts, and separate the parking brake cables.
- Remove the charcoal canister assembly.
- Remove the no. 2 fuel tank protector subassembly for AWD.
- Remove the 7 bolts and the No. 2 fuel tank protector.
- Remove the 4 bolts and the fuel tank protector sub-assembly for FWD.
- Remove the rear suspension member subassembly for Double Wishbone Type Suspension.
- Disconnect the fuel tank vent hose for Torsion Beam Type Suspension.
- Pinch the tabs of the retainer of the fuel tube connector to remove the lock claws.
- Pull the fuel tank vent hose out of the pipe.
- Disconnect the breather tube fuel hose.
- Remove the checker of the fuel tube connector from the pipe.
- Pinch the retainer of the fuel tube connector, then pull the fuel tube connector out of the pipe.
- Separate the breather tube fuel hose.
- Disconnect the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Pinch the tabs of the retainer of the fuel tube connector to remove the lock claws and push it down.
- Pull the fuel tank main tube out of the pipe.
- Using a screwdriver, unfasten the claw. Then remove the fuel tank filler pipe cover from the fuel tank filler pipe.
- Loosen the hose clamp bolt, then disconnect the fuel tank filler pipe hose from the fuel tank.
- Remove fuel tank assembly for AWD.
- Hold the fuel tank using a transmission jack.
- Remove the 4 bolts, then remove the 2 No. 1 fuel tank bands.
- Operate the transmission jack, then remove the fuel tank.
- Remove the fuel tank assembly for FWD.
- Hold the fuel tank using a transmission jack.
- Remove the 4 bolts, then remove the 2 No. 1 fuel tank bands.
- Operate the transmission jack, then remove the fuel tank.
- Remove the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Remove the fuel tank main tube from the fuel tank.
- Remove the fuel tank vent hose for AWD.
- Remove the fuel tank vent hose from the fuel tank clamp for FWD.
- Remove the fuel tank cushions from the fuel tank.
- Install the new fuel tank cushions onto the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel tank vent hose for AWD.
- Install the fuel tank vent hose onto the fuel tube clamp for FWD.
- Install the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Install the fuel tank main tube onto the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel tank assembly for AWD.
- Set the fuel tank on a transmission jack.
- Operate the transmission jack, then install the fuel tank into the vehicle.
- Install the 2 No. 1 fuel tank bands with the 4 bolts. Tighten: 39 N.m (29 lb ft)
- Install the fuel tank assembly for FWD.
- Set the fuel tank on a transmission jack.
- Operate the transmission jack, then install the fuel tank into the vehicle.
- Install the 2 No. 1 fuel tank bands with the 4 bolts. Tighten: 39 N.m (29 lb ft)
- Install the fuel tank filler pipe sub-assembly.
- Connect the fuel tank to filler pipe hose to the fuel tank.
- Engage the claw, then install the fuel tank filler pipe cover onto the fuel tank filler pipe.
- Connect the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Align the fuel tube connector with the pipe, then push the fuel tube connector in until it comes into contact with the seat to connect the fuel tank main tube to the pipe, then push the retainer up until the claws lock.
- Connect the breather tube fuel hose.
- Align the fuel tube connector with the pipe, then push the fuel tube connector in until the retainer makes a "click" sound to connect the fuel tank breather tube to the pipe.
- Install the checker onto the pipe.
- Connect the fuel tank vent hose for Torsion Beam Type Suspension.
- Align the fuel tube connector with the pipe, then push the fuel tube connector in until it comes into contact with the seat to connect the fuel tank vent hose to the pipe.
- Slide the retainer of the fuel tube connector to lock the claws.
- Install the rear suspension member sub-assembly for Double Wishbone Type Suspension.
- Install the charcoal canister assembly.
- Install the No. 2 fuel tank protector with the 7 bolts for AWD. Tighten: 5.5 N.m (49 lb in)
- Install the fuel tank protector sub-assembly with the 4 bolts for FWD. Tighten: 5.5 N.m (49 lb in)
- Install the parking cables with the 4 bolts. Tighten: 5.4 N.m (48 lb in)
- Install the propeller with center bearing shaft assembly for AWD.
- Install the center exhaust pipe assembly for AWD.
- Install cthe enter exhaust pipe assembly for FWD.
- Add fuel.
- Install the right fuel sender gage assembly for AWD.
- Install the fuel suction tube assembly for AWD.
- Install the fuel suction tube assembly for FWD.
- Install the fuel pump gage retainer for AWD.
- Install the fuel pump gage retainer for FWD.
- Connect the fuel tank vent hose for FWD.
- Connect the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.
- Inspect for a fuel leak.
- Inspect for an exhaust gas leak.
- Install no. 2 rear floor service hole cover for AWD.
- Install the rear floor service hole cover.
- Install the rear seat cushion assembly. Refer to «Rear Seat Cushion Replacement»(ref-341872-S30349220412009091700000) .
- Remove the rear seat cushion assembly. Refer to «Rear Seat Cushion Replacement»(ref-341872-S30349220412009091700000) .
- Remove the rear floor service hole cover for AWD.
- Disconnect the connector from the fuel suction tube assembly.
- Remove the rear floor service hole cover for FWD.
- Disconnect the connector from the fuel suction tube assembly.
- Discharge the fuel system pressure. Refer to «Fuel Pressure Relief»(ref-341905-S40729954492009091700000) .
- Disconnect the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Disconnect the fuel tank main tube.
- Remove the tube joint clip, and pull the fuel tube joint out of the plug of the fuel suction plate.
- Disconnect the fuel tank vent hose for FWD.
- Pinch the retainer and pull the fuel tank vent connector out of the fuel tank to disconnect the fuel tank vent hose from the fuel suction plate.
- Remove the 8 bolts and fuel pump gage retainer for AWD.
- Remove the fuel pump gage retainer for FWD.
- Using a 6 mm socket hexagon wrench, set SST to the fuel pump gage retainer. SST 09808-14020 (09808-01410, 09808-01420, 09808-01430)
- Using SST, loosen the fuel pump gage retainer. SST 09808-14020 (09808-01410, 09808-01420, 09808-01430)
- Remove the fuel pump gage retainer while holding the fuel suction tube assembly by hand.
- Remove the fuel suction tube assembly for AWD.
- Disconnect the hose and remove the fuel suction tube assembly.
- Remove the gasket from the fuel suction tube assembly.
- Remove the fuel suction tube assembly from the fuel tank for FWD.
- Remove the gasket from the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel suction tube assembly for AWD.
- Install a new gasket to the fuel suction tube assembly.
- Connect the fuel hose with the clip.
- Set the fuel suction tube to the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel suction tube assembly.
- Connect the hose and set the fuel suction tube assembly to the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel suction tube assembly for FWD.
- Install a new gasket onto the fuel tank.
- Set the fuel suction tube to the fuel tank.
- Install the fuel pump gauge retainer for AWD.
- While holding the fuel suction tube by hand, install the fuel tank vent tube to the fuel tank with the 8 bolts. Tighten: 6.0 N.m (53 lb in)
- Install the fuel pump gage retainer for FWD.
- Align the protrusion of the fuel suction tube with the notch of the fuel tank.
- While holding the fuel suction tube by hand, align the marks of a new fuel pump gage retainer and fuel tank, then install the fuel pump gage retainer.
- Using SST and your hand, tighten the fuel pump gage retainer 2 revolutions so that the mark of the retainer comes within the range. SST 09808-14020 (09808-01410, 09808-01420, 09808-01430)
- Install the fuel tank vent hose for FWD.
- Connect the fuel tank vent hose.
- Align the fuel tank vent connector with the pipe, then push in the fuel tank vent connector until the retainer makes a "click" sound to connect the fuel tank vent hose to the fuel suction plate.
- Install the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Connect the fuel tank main tube.
- Push the fuel tube joint in the plug of the fuel suction plate, then install the tube joint clip.
- Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.
- Inspect for a fuel leak.
- Install the rear floor service hole cover for AWD. Refer to «Rear Seat Cushion Replacement»(ref-341872-S30349220412009091700000) .
- Connect the fuel pump connector.
- Install the rear floor service hole cover for FWD.
- Connect the fuel pump connector.
- Install the rear seat cushion assembly. Refer to «Rear Seat Cushion Replacement»(ref-341872-S30349220412009091700000) .
- Remove rear seat cushion assembly. Refer to «Rear Seat Cushion Replacement»(ref-341872-S30349220412009091700000) .
- Remove rear floor service hole cover.
- Remove no. 2 rear floor service hole cover for AWD.
- Remove rear floor service hole cover for FWD.
- Discharge fuel system pressure. Refer to «Fuel Pressure Relief»(ref-341905-S40729954492009091700000) .
- Disconnect cable from negative battery terminal.
- Remove fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Disconnect fuel tank vent hose for FWD.
- Remove fuel pump gage retainer for AWD.
- Remove fuel pump gage retainer for FWD.
- Remove fuel suction tube assembly for AWD.
- Remove fuel suction tube assembly for FWD.
- Disconnect the left fuel sender gage connector for AWD.
- Release the lock and slide the fuel sender gage assembly to remove it.
- Disconnect the left fuel sender gage connector for AWD.
- Remove the 5 bolts and fuel sender gage.
- Remove the fuel sender gage from the fuel tank.
- Disconnect the fuel sender gage connector for FWD.
- Release the lock and slide the fuel sender gage assembly to remove it.
- Install the left fuel sender gage assembly for AWD.
- Install the fuel sender gage assembly by sliding it downward.
- Connect the connector of the fuel sender gage assembly.
- Install the right sender gage assembly for AWD.
- Install the fuel sender gage to the fuel tank with the 5 bolts. Tighten: 1.5 N.m (13 lb in)
- Connect the fuel sender gage connector.
- Install the fuel sender gage assembly by sliding it downward for FWD.
- Connect the connector of the fuel sender gage assembly.
- Install the fuel suction tube assembly for AWD.
- Install the fuel suction tube assembly for FWD.
- Install the fuel pump gage retainer for AWD.
- Install the fuel pump gage retainer for FWD.
- Install the fuel tank vent hose for FWD.
- Connect the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Connect cable to negative battery terminal.
- Inspect for a fuel leak.
- Install the rear floor service hole cover for AWD.
- Install no. 2 rear floor service hole cover for AWD.
- Connect the fuel sender gage connector.
- Install the rear floor service hole cover for FWD.
- Install the rear seat cushion assembly. Refer to «Rear Seat Cushion Replacement»(ref-341872-S30349220412009091700000) .
- Discharge the fuel system pressure. Refer to «Fuel Pressure Relief»(ref-341905-S40729954492009091700000) .
- Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
- Remove the engine cover. Refer to «Fastener Caution»(ref-341896-S36308232642009091700000) .
- Remove the air cleaner assembly. Refer to «Air Cleaner Element Replacement»(ref-341905-S39631737482009091700000) .
- Disconnect the fuel main tube.
- Remove the fuel tube from the fuel hose clamp.
- Remove the fuel pipe clamp.
- Wipe off any dirt on the fuel tube connector.
- Hold the fuel tube connector, and then install SST. SST 09268-21010
- Turn SST to align the retainer inside the fuel tube connector with the chamfered part of SST.
- Insert SST into the fuel tube and hold it. Then push the fuel tube connector toward SST.
- Mount the retainer of the fuel tube connector onto the chamfered part of SST.
- Slide SST and fuel tube connector together towards the fuel tube until they make a "click" sound, and then disconnect the fuel tube.
- Drain the fuel remaining inside the fuel tube.
- Cover the fuel tube and fuel pipe with a plastic bag to protect the disconnected part.
- Disconnect the No. 2 ventilation hose from the ventilation valve.
- Remove the 2 wire harness clamps.
- Disconnect the 4 fuel injector connectors.
- Remove the 2 bolts, then remove the fuel delivery pipe together with the 4 fuel injectors.
- Remove the 2 delivery pipe spacers from the cylinder head.
- Remove the 4 insulators from the cylinder head.
- Remove fuel injector assembly.
- Pull the 4 fuel injectors out of the fuel delivery pipe.
- Apply a light coat of oil to new O-rings, then install one onto each fuel injector.
- Apply a light coat of oil to the part of the fuel delivery pipe which comes into contact with the O-ring of the fuel injector.
- Apply a light coat of oil to the O-ring again, then install the right and left fuel injectors onto the fuel delivery pipe.
- Check that the fuel injector rotates smoothly. If the fuel injector does not rotate, replace the O-ring.
- Install 4 new insulators to the cylinder head.
- Install the 2 delivery pipe spacers onto the cylinder head.
- Install the fuel delivery pipe together with the 4 fuel injectors, then hand tighten the 2 bolts.
- Check that the fuel injector rotates smoothly. If the fuel injector does not rotate, replace the O-ring.
- Tighten the 2 bolts to the specified torque. Tighten: 20 N.m (15 lb ft)
- Connect the 4 fuel injector connectors.
- Install the 2 wire harness clamps.
- Connect the no. 2 ventilation hose to the ventilation valve.
- Connect the fuel main tube.
- Push the fuel tube connector until it makes a "click" sound.
- Install the fuel pipe clamp.
- Install the fuel tube to the fuel hose clamp.
- Install the air cleaner assembly. Refer to «Air Cleaner Element Replacement»(ref-341905-S39631737482009091700000) .
- Install the engine cover sub-assembly. Refer to «Fastener Caution»(ref-341896-S36308232642009091700000) .
- Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.
- Inspect for a fuel leak.
- Remove the rear seat cushion assembly. Refer to «Rear Seat Cushion Replacement»(ref-341872-S30349220412009091700000) .
- Remove the rear floor service hole cover.
- Discharge the fuel system pressure. Refer to «Fuel Pressure Relief»(ref-341905-S40729954492009091700000) .
- Disconnect the cable from the negative battery terminal.
- Disconnect the fuel tank main tube.
- Disconnect the fuel tank vent hose for FWD.
- Remove the fuel pump gage retainer for AWD.
- Remove the fuel pump gage retainer for FWD.
- Remove the fuel suction tube assembly for AWD.
- Remove the fuel sender gage assembly.
- Remove the fuel pump for AWD.
- Release the claw and disconnect the fuel pump filter hose.
- Disengage the claw of the jet pump nozzle.
- Using a screwdriver with the tip taped, remove the jet pump.
- Remove the O-ring from the jet pump.
- Remove the E-ring and separate the 2 claws, then remove the fuel pump sub-tank.
- Disconnect the fuel pump harness connector.
- Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the 2 claws and remove the No. 1 fuel suction support.
- Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the 5 claws, and remove the suction filter and fuel pump from the fuel filter.
- Disconnect the fuel pump connector.
- Remove the O-ring from the fuel pump.
- Remove the fuel pump for FWD.
- Release the claw and disconnect the fuel pump filter hose.
- Remove the E-ring and separate the 2 claws, then remove the fuel pump sub-tank.
- Disconnect the fuel pump harness connector.
- Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the 2 claws and remove the No. 1 fuel suction support.
- Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, disengage the 5 claws, and remove the suction filter and fuel pump from the fuel filter.
- Disconnect the fuel pump connector.
- Remove the O-ring from the fuel pump.
- Using a screwdriver with its tip wrapped in protective tape, remove the fuel pressure regulator assembly.
- Remove the 2 O-rings from the pressure regulator assembly.
- Apply oil to 2 new O-rings and then install them to the fuel pressure regulator assembly.
- Install the fuel pressure regulator assembly.
- Install the fuel pump for AWD.
- Install the fuel pump for FWD.
- Install the fuel sender gage assembly for AWD.
- Install the fuel sender gage assembly for FWD.
- Install the fuel suction tube assembly for AWD.
- Install the fuel suction tube assembly for FWD.
- Install the fuel pump gage retainer for AWD.
- Install the fuel pump gage retainer for FWD.
- Connect the fuel tank vent hose sub-assembly for FWD.
- Connect the fuel tank main tube sub-assembly.
- Connect the cable to the negative battery terminal.
- Inspect for a fuel leak.
- Install rear floor service hole cover for AWD.
- Install the rear seat cushion assembly. Refer to «Rear Seat Cushion Replacement»(ref-341872-S30349220412009091700000) .
- Remove fuel injection fuel rail assembly. Refer to «Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement»(ref-341906-S22695992152009091700000) .
- Pull the 4 fuel injectors out of the fuel delivery pipe.
- Apply a light coat of oil to new O-rings, then install one onto each fuel injector.
- Apply a light coat of oil to the part of the fuel delivery pipe which comes into contact with the O-ring of the fuel injector.
- Apply a light coat of oil to the O-ring again, then install the right and left fuel injectors onto the fuel delivery pipe.
- Check that the fuel injector rotates smoothly. If the fuel injector does not rotate, replace the O-ring.
- Install the fuel injection fuel rail assembly. Refer to «Fuel Injection Fuel Rail Assembly Replacement»(ref-341906-S22695992152009091700000) .
- Remove the evaporative emission (EVAP) canister. Refer to «Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement»(ref-341906-S35322396202009091700000) .
- Disconnect the EVAP filter line from the inlet port (4) of the EVAP vacuum leak pump (2) by pinching both sides of the hose connector fitting.
- Disconnect the vacuum hose from the vacuum leak pump.
- Remove the 3 bolts and the EVAP vacuum leak pump (2) from the canister (3).
- Install the EVAP vacuum leak pump (2) to the EVAP canister (3) and secure with 3 bolts.
- Install the pump bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 8 N.m (71 lb in).
- Connect the vacuum hose to the small port of the EVAP leak pump.
- Connect the EVAP filter line to the inlet port (4) of the vacuum leak pump (2).
- Install the EVAP canister to the vehicle. Refer to «Evaporative Emission Canister Replacement»(ref-341906-S35322396202009091700000) .
- Disconnect the vacuum switching valve connector.
- Disconnect the wire harness clamp.
- Disconnect the 2 purge line hoses from the vacuum switching valve.
- Remove the vacuum switching valve.
- Install the vacuum switching valve onto the air cleaner hose.
- Connect the 2 purge line hoses to the vacuum switching valve.
- Connect the wire harness clamp.
- Connect the vacuum switching valve connector.
- Disconnect the purge line hose.
- Disconnect the fuel tank vent hose from the charcoal canister.
- Disconnect the charcoal canister filter sub-assembly from the charcoal canister.
- Disconnect the fuel tank vent hose from the charcoal canister.
- Remove the 3 bolts and charcoal canister assembly.
Charcoal Canister Assembly
- Install the charcoal canister assembly with the 3 bolts. Tighten: 19N.m (14 lb ft)
- Connect the fuel tank vent hose to the charcoal canister.
- Connect the charcoal canister filter subassembly to the charcoal canister.
- Connect the fuel tank vent hose to the charcoal canister.
- Connect the purge line hose. Tighten: 5.5 N.m (49 lb in)
Except AWD Vehicles
- Disconnect the fuel tank vent hose from the charcoal canister.
- Disconnect the vapor pressure sensor connector.
- Disconnect the wire harness clamp.
- Disconnect the purge line hose.
- Disconnect the charcoal canister filter sub-assembly from the charcoal canister.
- Remove the 3 bolts and charcoal canister assembly.
AWD Vehicles
- Disconnect the fuel tank vent hose from the charcoal canister.
- Disconnect the vapor pressure sensor connector.
- Disconnect the charcoal canister filter sub-assembly from the charcoal canister.
- Disconnect the purge line.
- Remove the 3 bolts and charcoal canister assembly.
AWD Vehicles
- Install the charcoal canister assembly with the 3 bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 19 N.m(14 lb ft).
- Connect the purge line.
- Connect the charcoal canister filter sub-assembly to the charcoal canister.
- Connect the vapor pressure sensor connector.
- Connect the fuel tank vent hose to the charcoal canister assembly.
Except AWD Vehicles
- Install the charcoal canister assembly with the 3 bolts. Tighten: Tighten the bolts to 19 N.m (14 lb ft)
- Connect the charcoal canister filter sub-assembly to the charcoal canister.
- Connect the purge line hose.
- Connect the wire harness clamp.
- Connect the vapor pressure sensor connector.
- Connect the fuel tank vent hose to the charcoal canister.
- Remove engine cover.
- Disconnect the 4 ignition coil connectors.
- Remove the 4 bolts and 4 ignition coils.
- Install the 4 ignition coils with the 4 bolts. Tighten: 9.0 N.m (80 lb in)
- Connect the 4 ignition coil connectors.
- Install the engine cover.
- Remove engine cover.
- Disconnect the 4 ignition coil connectors.
- Remove the 4 bolts and 4 ignition coils.
- Remove the 4 spark plugs.
- Install the 4 spark plugs. Tighten: 19 N.m (14 lb ft)
- Install the 4 ignition coils with the 4 bolts. Tighten: 9.0 N.m (80 lb in)
- Connect the 4 ignition coil connectors.
- Install the engine cover.
- Disconnect cable from negative battery terminal.
- Remove right engine under cover.
- Remove v-ribbed belt.
- Remove generator assembly.
- Disconnect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
- Separate the crankshaft position sensor connector clamp and wire harness.
- Remove the bolt and crankshaft position sensor.
- Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring on the crankshaft position sensor.
- Install the crankshaft position sensor with the bolt. Tighten: 9.0 N.m (80 lb in)
- Install the wire harness and crankshaft position sensor connector clamp.
- Connect the crankshaft position sensor connector.
- Install generator assembly.
- Install v-ribbed belt.
- Install right engine under cover.
- Connect cable to negative battery terminal.
- Inspect for oil leak.
- Remove engine cover.
- Remove air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.
- Remove camshaft position sensor.
- Disconnect the camshaft position sensor connector.
- Remove the bolt and the camshaft position sensor.
- Install camshaft position sensor.
- Apply a light coat of engine oil to the O-ring of the sensor.
- Install the camshaft position sensor with the bolt. Tighten: 9.0 N.m (80 lb in)
- Connect the camshaft position sensor connector.
- Install air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.
- Inspect for engine oil leak.
- Install engine cover.
Remove engine cover sub-assembly.
- Remove camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Remove the bolt and the vacuum hose clamp.
- Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.
- Remove the bolt and the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Install camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it onto the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly with the bolt. Tighten: 9.0 N.m (80 lb in)
- Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.
- Install the vacuum hose clamp with the bolt.
- Inspect for oil leak.
- Install engine cover sub-assembly.
Remove engine cover sub-assembly.
- Remove camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Remove the bolt and the vacuum hose clamp.
- Disconnect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.
- Remove the bolt and the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Remove the O-ring from the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Install camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Apply a light coat of engine oil to a new O-ring and install it onto the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly.
- Install the camshaft timing oil control valve assembly with the bolt. Tighten: 9.0 N.m (80 lb in)
- Connect the camshaft timing oil control valve connector.
- Install the vacuum hose clamp with the bolt.
- Inspect for oil leak.
- Install engine cover sub-assembly.
- Remove engine cover.
- Disconnect the ventilation hose from the ventilation valve sub-assembly.
- Using a 22 mm deep socket wrench, remove the ventilation valve sub-assembly.
- Apply adhesive to 2 or 3 threads of the ventilation valve. Three bond 1324 or equivalent
- Using a 22 mm deep socket wrench, install the ventilation valve. Tighten: 19 N.m (14 lb ft)
- Connect the ventilation hose.
- Install the engine cover.
- Inspect for oil leak.
- Discharge fuel system pressure.
- Drain coolant.
- Remove front wiper arm head cap.
- Remove left front wiper arm and blade assembly.
- Remove right front wiper arm and blade assembly.
- Remove hood to cowl top seal.
- Remove right cowl top ventilator louver.
- Remove left cowl top ventilator louver.
- Remove windshield wiper motor and link assembly.
- Remove outer cowl top panel.
- Remove No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.
- Remove air cleaner cap sub-assembly with No. 1 air cleaner hose.
- Remove throttle body assembly.
- Remove fuel tube sub-assembly.
- Remove fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly with fuel tube sub-assembly.
- Remove intake manifold.
- Disconnect the ventilation hose.
- Disconnect the union to check valve hose.
- Separate the wire harness clamp from the intake manifold.
- Remove the 5 bolts, 2 nuts and intake manifold.
- Remove the intake manifold gasket.
- Remove No. 1 intake manifold insulator.
- Disconnect the sensor connector.
- Remove the nut and knock sensor.
- Install the knock sensor with the nut. Tighten: 20 N.m (15 lb ft)
- Connect the sensor connector.
- Install the No. 1 intake manifold insulator.
- Install a new gasket into the intake manifold.
- Install the intake manifold with the 5 bolts and 2 nuts. Tighten: 30 N.m (22 lb ft)
- Install the wire harness clamp onto the intake manifold.
- Connect the union to check valve hose.
- Connect the ventilation hose.
- Install fuel delivery pipe sub-assembly with fuel tube sub-assembly.
- Connect fuel tube sub-assembly.
- Install throttle body assembly.
- Install outer cowl top panel.
- Install windshield wiper motor and link assembly.
- Install left cowl top ventilator louver.
- Install right cowl top ventilator louver.
- Install hood to cowl top seal.
- Install right front wiper arm and blade assembly.
- Install left front wiper arm and blade assembly.
- Install front wiper arm head cap.
- Install air cleaner cap sub-assembly with hose.
- Add engine coolant.
- Inspect for coolant leak.
- Inspect for fuel leak.
- Install No. 1 engine cover sub-assembly.
- Disconnect the mass air flow (MAF) sensor.
- Release the two retaining clips (3).
- Lift the air cleaner cover (1) up and away from the lower assembly (3).
- Remove the air cleaner element (2).
- Install the air cleaner element (2).
- Lower the air cleaner cover (1) onto the lower assembly (3).
- Secure the air cleaner cover (2) with the two retaining clips (3).
- Connect the MAF sensor.
