CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR Pontiac Vibe I

CRANKSHAFT POSITION SENSOR

Note. The numbers in parenthesis in removal and installation procedures refer to numbered components in referenced figure(s).

  1. Raise and support vehicle.
  2. Remove the 2 bolts (3) that secure the stone shield (1). (Scheme 14)
  3. Remove the 4 retainers (2) and the stone shield (1).
  4. Disconnect CKP sensor harness connector. (Scheme 15)
  5. Remove CKP sensor hold-down bolt (2). (Scheme 15)
  6. Remove CKP sensor (1) from the front cover of the engine block.

  1. Install CKP sensor (1) into the front cover of the engine block.
  2. Install CKP sensor hold-down bolt (2). Tighten bolt to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-153233-S09576916932003032600000). (Scheme 15)
  3. Connect CKP sensor harness connector.
  4. Install stone shield (1) and the 4 retainers (2). (Scheme 14)
  5. Install stone shield (1) 2 bolts (3). Tighten to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-153233-S09576916932003032600000). (Scheme 14)
  6. Lower vehicle.

Note. Use care when handling the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor. Damage to the ECT sensor will affect proper operation of the fuel injection system.

  1. Drain the engine coolant into appropriate container.
  2. Disconnect ECT sensor (2) harness connector (1), located next to the upper radiator hose on the cylinder head. (Scheme 16)
  3. Remove ECT sensor (2).

  1. Install ECT sensor (2) into cylinder head. Tighten ECT sensor to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-153233-S09576916932003032600000) .
  2. Connect ECT sensor harness connector (1).
  3. Refill the engine coolant.
