Transfer Case - Servicing: Maintenance Pontiac Aztek I

Transfer Case 1 illustration ~209 words

LUBRICATION

CAUTIONTransmission oil circulates between the transmission and the transfer case. In situations where transmission failures circulate debris into the transfer case, the transfer case must be disassembled, cleaned, and inspected for damage. See appropriate OVERHAUL article.

SERVICE INTERVALS

Inspect the transfer case-power transfer unit rear drive module every 12 months or at engine oil change intervals. Manufacturer does not specify scheduled maintenance.

CHECKING FLUID LEVELS

To get an accurate reading, vehicle should be on level surface. Remove fill plug (2). (Scheme 12) If the level is below bottom of fill plug hole, add appropriate lubricant. See RECOMMENDED FLUIDS. Add enough lubricant to raise level to bottom of fill plug hole.

Manufacturer recommends synthetic gear oil GM P/N 12378514 (United States), or P/N 88901045 (Canada).
