Note. Use the correct fastener in the correct location. Replacement fasteners must be the correct part number for that application. Fasteners requiring replacement or fasteners requiring the use of thread locking compound or sealant are identified in the service procedure. Do not use paints, lubricants, or corrosion inhibitors on fasteners or fastener joint surfaces unless specified. These coatings affect fastener torque and joint clamping force and may damage the fastener. Use the correct tightening sequence and specifications when installing fasteners in order to avoid damage to parts and systems.
Remove the air cleaner intake duct. See AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT . Remove the filter element from the air cleaner housing. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten air cleaner intake duct to specification. See TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS .
Note. Prior to disconnecting negative battery cable, record all of the customer's radio station presets, turn off all the lamps and accessories and turn the ignition OFF. After job has been completed, install the battery ground (negative) cable and bolt to the battery. Tighten the battery terminal bolt to specification. Program all of the customer's radio station presets and set the radio clock to the current time.
- Disconnect the negative battery cable. Reposition the reservoir hose clamp at the radiator overflow fitting using Hose Clamp Pliers (J 38185). Remove the reservoir hose at the radiator overflow fitting. Remove the reservoir mounting clip. Remove the coolant reservoir.
- Rotate the cruise control cable counter clockwise at the module in order to remove the cable from the module. (Scheme 1) Remove the cable from the module band. Disconnect the electrical connector from the cruise control module. Remove the cruise control module from the bracket.
- Remove the engine coolant heater harness from the left front fender diagonal brace, if equipped. Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to the inner fender bolt. (Scheme 2) Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace to radiator support bolts. Remove the front end sheet metal diagonal brace.
- Remove the air cleaner intake duct. See «AIR CLEANER INTAKE DUCT»(ref-155806-S21744190612003070700000). Unsnap the latch on the upper cover and remove the cover. (Scheme 3) Carefully remove the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) leaving the 2 harnesses connected and set aside. Remove the 2 bolts from the air cleaner assembly and remove the housing. (Scheme 4)
- To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten the air cleaner housing bolts to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-155806-S21244843402003062600000). Tighten the air cleaner intake duct clamps to specification.

- Loosen the 2 intake air duct clamps from the Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor and the throttle body. (Scheme 5) Disconnect the vent tube from the air cleaner intake duct. Disconnect the MAF sensor electrical connector.
- Unlatch the air cleaner cover clips and remove the air cleaner intake duct and air cleaner cover. Separate the air cleaner intake duct from the MAF sensor and throttle body Remove air cleaner intake duct. To install, reverse removal procedure. Tighten the air cleaner intake duct clamps to specification. See «TORQUE SPECIFICATIONS»(ref-155806-S21244843402003062600000).
