General Description
The auxiliary heating unit is located under the chassis. The unit is independently fired and designed to provide rapid heating of the engine coolant from cold, and maintain an even temperature of the vehicle interior under all ambient conditions.
From MY 2007, the auxiliary heating unit is available for all Vivaro models except the G03 Chassis Cab. From MY 2003 up to MY 2006, the auxiliary heating unit is available for Combi models only.
There are two variants of the auxiliary heating unit, one for diesel and one for petrol, depending on which engine fuel is used.
The auxiliary heating system is fully automatic and independent of other vehicle control units. It uses vehicle fuel for power and is active when the engine is running (receives a signal from the alternator). It includes the following equipment:
- Integral air blower for combustion
- Integral glow plug
- Integral flame sensor
- Integral coolant temperature sensor
- Integral overheat sensor
- External fuel pump
- External ambient temperature switch

On the F06 and G06 Combi and F36 Tour models from MY 2007, the auxiliary heating unit is available with or without the additional heater. The additional heater is described in “Functional Description: Additional Heating System” .
Operating Logic
The heater becomes operational when the outside air temperature falls to less than 5°C.
