Functional Description

The IPC comprises the following functions:

  • Vehicle speed display
  • Engine speed display
  • Total mileage odometer
  • Trip odometer
  • Configurable information display
  • Automatic transmission display
  • Fuel level display
  • Engine temperature display
  • Display lamps
  • CAN interface

Speedometer Function

The ECM transmits the current vehicle speed signal to the IPC. This message is sent via the HSCAN from the ECM to the CIM interface and via the LSCAN to the IPC. The IPC actuates the speedometer stepper motor using this information.

Tachometer Function

The ECM transmits the current engine speed signal as well as the "engine running" signal to the IPC. This message is sent via the HSCAN from the ECM to the CIM interface and via the LSCAN to the IPC. The IPC actuates the tachometer stepper motor using this information.

Odometer Function

  • Total mileage odometer

The ECM transmits odometer information to the IPC. This message is sent via the HSCAN from the ECM to the CIM interface and via the LSCAN to the IPC. The IPC calculates the new mileage value from the difference between two odometer messages and the current mileage value. This information then appears in the total mileage odometer display area.

  • Trip odometer

The trip odometer functions similarly to the total mileage odometer but can be reset via the reset button. The symbols for seat occupied detection are also located in the trip odometer display area.

Fuel Level Display Function

The ECM transmits the current fuel level as a percentage to the IPC. This message is sent via the HSCAN from the ECM to the CIM interface and via the LSCAN to the IPC. The IPC actuates the fuel gauge stepper motor using this information.

Coolant Temperature Display Function

The ECM transmits the current coolant temperature to the IPC. This message is sent via the HSCAN from the ECM to the CIM interface and via the LSCAN to the IPC. The IPC actuates the coolant temperature display stepper motor using this information.

Speed Warning Function (Country-Specific)

If the speedometer exceeds a specified speed value, the IPC transmits an acoustic warning signal request to the CIM via the LSCAN. If the speedometer then falls below this threshold, the acoustic warning signal is switched off.

Information Display Function

Two versions of the configurable information display are installed; one for vehicles with AT and one for vehicles without AT. The AT version includes an additional block with automatic transmission information.
