System and Function Description

The air conditioning components for the vehicle interior have been taken over from the familiar system installed in the Vectra/Cavalier. The air conditioning components in the engine compartment are new.

A new feature is the type of temperature regulation:

In contrast to the familiar Vectra/Cavalier air conditioning system, the displacement and thus the refrigerant supply output of the compressor used here is constant.

The temperature is regulated by an anti‑icing switch which switches off the compressor magnetic clutch at temperatures lower than 3 °C/38 °F at the centre fresh air nozzle output and switches it on at temperatures above 3 °C/38 °F.

This regulation prevents the evaporator from icing up.

The dual switch monitors the pressure in the refrigerant circuit and switches the compressor magnetic clutch off as required.

To replace the high/low pressure switch, the air conditioning must be drained.

Observe the safety measures and general instructions from the Service Instructions when servicing the air conditioning.

For some Service operations, e.g. removing the power steering pump, the compressor must be removed and laid aside - the refrigerant lines are however not disconnected and the refrigerant circuit remains closed.
