How to Replace the Upper Steering Spindle Opel Senator B

Upper Steering Spindle, Replace

(see "Steering Column Assembly, Disassemble and Reassemble" for additional details).

Remove

Unscrew clamp bolt for steering spindle from steering spindle flange.

Unclip and remove cover plate with signal button from steering wheel.

Set steering straight ahead.

Pull steering wheel from steering spindle using KM - 210 - A.

Do not hammer steering wheel on or off!

Unbolt and remove both halves of signal switch panelling.

Remove lock cylinder.

Unclip signal switch (left) and wiper switch (right) - both with respective switch lever - from switch housing.

Remove switch housing.

Lever out both housing safety plugs (top and bottom).

Turn switch housing to left (turning lock) and pull off from steering column.

Pull steering spindle out of steering column.

Install

Guide new steering spindle carefully into steering column and steering coupling.

The lengthways recess on the spindle must align with the clamp bolt hole of the steering spindle flange.

Do not tighten steering spindle yet.

Fasten switch housing to steering column (turning lock) and secure.

Use two new safety plugs.

Clip signal switch (left) and wiper switch (right) into housing.

Install signal switch panelling and bolt in position.

Install lock cylinder.

Fasten steering wheel and secure - torque 25 Nm (18 lbf. ft.).

Use new locking plate.

Pull steering spindle upwards until stop on steering spindle ball bearing is reached.

In this position, tighten clamp bolt for steering spindle - torque 22 Nm (16 lbf. ft.).
