Function Description

The telematics unit communicates with the NCDC 2015. The connection between the NCDC 2015 and the telematics unit is formed by a CAN E bus (E bus).

Remarks: This CAN E bus must not be confused with the CAN E bus that connects the body control module to the instrument module. They are both separate systems.

A telephone module (8 W) is the basis of the telematics unit. All OnStar services between the vehicle and the Call Centre take place over this telephone module.

OnStar offers information and driverassistance services such as traffic information, route recommendations as well as vehiclerelated services and automatic emergency calls.

A monochrome display (GraphicInfoDisplay, GID), the speakers connected to the radio and a microphone connected in the interior lamp (for the conference microphone device) are activated for interaction with the user.

Aftersales

Before removing a component of the infotainment system that is not to be reinstalled in the same unit system, the antitheft protection for the system must be reset via the immobiliser code of the Car Pass using Tech 2.

If this is not performed, the request procedure is repeated three times on installation in another unit system and the unit switches to antitheft protection mode. The device is then no longer functional.

The antitheft protection of the new telematics system generally differs from the known principle for audio appliances. Previously, each radio device and the CD changer had their own codes that had to be entered after the supply voltage is reconnected to enable the device to operate.

In the new telematics system, this is changed to the principle known from the immobiliser:

The display and the control unit are married together just before they leave the factory and this activates the antitheft protection. In other words, each of these components knows the other telematics component of the specific vehicle. The entire system only functions in this configuration. If a telematics component in one vehicle is replaced by a telematics component from a different vehicle without authorisation, the system will no longer function.

  • Deactivate the antitheft protection for the system.
  • Remove component
  • Install new component when replacing
  • Program code file
  • Other necessary programming
  • Activate antitheft protection

For the selection in Tech 2, there are the menu items Deactivate antitheft protection and Activate antitheft protection .
