Steering Column Remove and Install Opel Campo I

Steering Wheel - Steering Column 8 illustrations ~235 words

Remove

Steering wheel – see operation "Steering Wheel Remove and Install".

Steering cowl and combination switch from shaft – screws harness connector.

Snap ring and bush from shaft.

Remove

Lock and bearing assembly from shaft – harness connector shear bolts; centre punch bolt heads and drill suitable size hole to fit commercially available stud remove (see illustration).

Remove

Clamp bolt – steering column coupling to steering gear shaft apply locating marks (arrowed) to pinion and coupling.

Remove

Column securing bolts – two from floor panel and two from upper mounting bracket.

Steering column assembly from vehicle – do not use force to disconnect coupling from steering gear.

Install

Steering column assembly to vehicle – align locating mark on coupling and steering gear shaft.

Coupling to steering gear shaft – clamp bolt 25 Nm.

Column securing bolts two to floor panel - 19 Nm; two to upper mounting bracket – 17 Nm.

Install

Lock and bearing assembly to shaft – tighten new shear bolts sufficiently to hold lock in position tightening bolts until heads break off harness connector.

Install

Combination switch and steering cowl to shaft - harness connector screws.

Caution

Ensure electrical harnesses lay outside left post for fixing screw (arrowed) in lower cowl.

Install

Steering wheel - see operation "Steering Wheel Remove and Install".

Inspect

Straight ahead position of steering – see operation "Straight Ahead Position Check and Adjust".
