  1. ECM is located in the engine room passenger side behind battery.
  2. Remove ECM harness connector.
  3. When disconnecting ECM harness connector, loosen it with levers as far as they will go as shown in the figure.
  4. Connect a break-out box (SST) and Y-cable adapter (SST) between the ECM and ECM harness connector. Use extreme care not to touch 2 pins at one time. Data is for comparison and may not be exact.

  1. INSPECTION START Start engine. Is engine running? Yes or No Yes: GO TO 8. No: GO TO 2.
  2. CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-I Turn ignition switch OFF and then ON. Check voltage between ECM terminal 109 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester. Voltage: Battery voltage OK or NG OK: GO TO 4. NG: GO TO 3.
  3. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART Check the following. 10A fuse Harness for open or short between ECM and fuse Repair harness or connectors.
  4. CHECK GROUND CONNECTIONS Turn ignition switch OFF. Loosen and retighten ground three screws on the body. Refer to «GROUND INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S14334914712004120900000) . OK or NG OK: GO TO 5. NG: Repair or replace ground connections.
  5. CHECK ECM GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT-I Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check harness continuity between ECM terminals 1, 115, 116 and body ground. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S22253773802004120900000) . Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 7. NG: GO TO 6.
  6. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART Check the following. Harness connectors F32, E2 Harness for open or short between ECM and body ground Repair open circuit or short to power in harness or connectors.
  7. CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-II Reconnect ECM harness connector. Turn ignition switch ON. Check voltage between IPDM E/R terminal 4 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester. Voltage: Battery voltage OK or NG OK: Go to «IGNITION SIGNAL»(ref-169809-S09326610482004121600000) in SYSTEM & COMPONENT TESTING - TITAN article. NG: GO TO 8.
  8. CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-III Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds. Turn ignition switch ON and then OFF. Check voltage between ECM terminals 119, 120 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester. Voltage: After turning ignition switch OFF, battery voltage will exist for a few seconds, then drop approximately 0V. OK or NG OK: GO TO 16. NG (Battery voltage does not exist.): GO TO 9. NG (Battery voltage exists for more than a few seconds.): GO TO 16.
  9. CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-V Turn ignition switch OFF and wait at least 10 seconds. Check voltage between ECM terminal 111 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester. Voltage: Battery voltage OK or NG OK: GO TO 10. NG: GO TO 11.
  10. CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-VI Disconnect ECM harness connector. Disconnect IPDM E/R harness connector E119. Check harness continuity between ECM terminals 119, 120 and IPDM E/R terminal 3. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S22253773802004120900000) . Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 13. NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  11. CHECK ECM POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-VII Disconnect ECM harness connector. Disconnect IPDM E/R harness connector E119. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 111 and IPDM E/R terminal 7. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S22253773802004120900000) . Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 12. NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  12. CHECK 15A FUSE Disconnect 20A fuse from IPDM E/R. Check 20A fuse. OK or NG OK: GO TO 16. NG: Replace 20A fuse.
  13. CHECK GROUND CONNECTIONS Turn ignition switch OFF. Loosen and retighten ground three screws on the body. Refer to «GROUND INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S14334914712004120900000) . OK or NG OK: GO TO 14. NG: Repair or replace ground connections.
  14. CHECK ECM GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT-II Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check harness continuity between ECM terminals 1, 115, 116 and ground. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S22253773802004120900000) . Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 16. NG: GO TO 15.
  15. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART Check the following. Harness connectors F32, E2 Harness for open or short between ECM and ground Repair open circuit or short to power in harness or connectors.
  16. CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT Refer to «TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT»(ref-169472-S11178043272004120900000) . OK or NG OK: Replace IPDM E/R. NG: Repair open circuit or short to power in harness or connectors.

  1. INSPECTION START Which malfunction (A or B) is duplicated? A or B A: GO TO 3. B: GO TO 2.
  2. CHECK INTAKE SYSTEM Check the following for connection. Air duct Vacuum hoses Intake air passage between air duct to intake manifold OK or NG OK: GO TO 3. NG: Reconnect the parts.
  3. RETIGHTEN GROUND SCREWS Turn ignition switch OFF. Loosen and retighten ground three screws on the body. Refer to «GROUND INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S14334914712004120900000) . OK or NG OK: GO TO 4. NG: Repair or replace ground connections.
  4. CHECK MAF SENSOR POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT Disconnect mass air flow (MAF) sensor harness connector. Turn ignition switch ON. Check voltage between MAF sensor terminal 2 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester. Voltage: Battery voltage OK or NG OK: GO TO 6. NG: GO TO 5.
  5. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART Check the following. Harness connectors E19, F33 Harness for open or short between IPDM E/R and mass air flow sensor Harness for open or short between mass air flow sensor and ECM Repair harness or connectors.
  6. CHECK MAF SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check harness continuity between MAF sensor terminal 3 and ECM terminal 67. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S12471578762004120900000) . Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 7. NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  7. CHECK MAF SENSOR INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT Check harness continuity between MAF sensor terminal 4 and ECM terminal 51. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S12471578762004120900000) . Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 8. NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  8. CHECK MASS AIR FLOW SENSOR Refer to «COMPONENT INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S34688491882004120900000) . OK or NG OK: GO TO 9. NG: Replace mass air flow sensor.
  9. CHECK INTERMITTENT INCIDENT Refer to «TROUBLE DIAGNOSIS FOR INTERMITTENT INCIDENT»(ref-169472-S11178043272004120900000) . INSPECTION END

  1. Reconnect all harness connectors disconnected.
  2. Start engine and warm it up to normal operating temperature.
  3. Check voltage between ECM terminal 51 (Mass air flow sensor signal) and ground.
  4. If the voltage is out of specification, proceed the following. Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect mass air flow sensor harness connector and reconnect it again. Perform steps 2 and 3 again.
  5. If NG, remove mass air flow sensor from air duct. Check hot wire for damage or dust.
  6. If NG, clean or replace mass air flow sensor.

  6. CHECK MAF SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check harness continuity between MAF sensor terminal 3 and ECM terminal 67. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S07773036112004120900000) . Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 7. NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  7. CHECK MAF SENSOR INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT Check harness continuity between MAF sensor terminal 4 and ECM terminal 51. Check harness continuity between electric throttle control actuator terminal 2 and ECM terminal 47. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S25523214572004120900000) . Continuity should exist. OK or NG OK: GO TO 4. NG: Repair or replace open circuit.
  4. CHECK THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR 2 POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-II Check the following. Harness for short to power and short to ground, between the following terminals. OK or NG OK: GO TO 5. NG: Repair short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.

  4. Set selector lever to D position.
  5. Check voltage between ECM terminals 50 (TP sensor 1 signal), 69 (TP sensor 2 signal) and ground under the following conditions.
  6. If NG, replace electric throttle control actuator and go to the next step.

  2. CHECK GROUND CONNECTIONS Turn ignition switch OFF. Loosen and retighten ground three screws on the body. Refer to «GROUND INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S14334914712004120900000) . OK or NG OK: GO TO 3. NG: Repair or replace ground connections.
  3. CHECK FUEL TANK TEMPERATURE SENSOR POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT Disconnect "fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump" harness connector. Turn ignition switch ON. Check voltage between "fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump" terminal 4 and ground with CONSULT-II or tester. Voltage: Approximately 5V OK or NG OK: GO TO 5. NG: GO TO 4.
  4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART Check the following. Harness connectors C1, E41 Harness for open or short between ECM and "fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump" Repair harness or connector.
  5. CHECK FUEL TANK TEMPERATURE SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect combination meter harness connector. Check harness continuity between "fuel level sensor unit and fuel pump" terminal 5 and combination meter terminal 16. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S42458414302004120900000) .   2. CHECK EVAP CANISTER VENT CONTROL VALVE CIRCUIT With CONSULT-II Turn ignition switch OFF and then turn ON. Select "VENT CONTROL/V" in "ACTIVE TEST" mode with CONSULT-II. Touch "ON/OFF" on CONSULT-II screen. Check for operating sound of the valve. Clicking noise should be heard. OK or NG OK: GO TO 7. NG: GO TO 3.
  3. CHECK EVAP CANISTER VENT CONTROL VALVE POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect EVAP canister vent control valve harness connector. Turn ignition switch ON.   4. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART Check the following. Harness connectors E41, C1 IPDM E/R harness connector E119 Harness for open or short between EVAP canister vent control valve and IPDM E/R Repair harness or connectors.
  5. CHECK EVAP CANISTER VENT CONTROL VALVE OUTPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 117 and EVAP canister vent control valve terminal 2. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S39193908382004120900000) . Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 7. NG: GO TO 6.
  6. DETECT MALFUNCTIONING PART Check the following. Harness connectors E41, C1 Harness for open or short between EVAP canister vent control valve and ECM Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  7. CHECK RUBBER TUBE FOR CLOGGING Disconnect rubber tube connected to EVAP canister vent control valve. Check the rubber tube for clogging. OK or NG OK: GO TO 8. NG: Clean the rubber tube using an air blower.

  4. CHECK APP SENSOR 2 POWER SUPPLY CIRCUIT-II Check the following. Harness for short to power and short to ground, between the following terminals. (Scheme 587) OK or NG OK: GO TO 5. NG: Repair short to ground or short to power in harness connectors.
  5. CHECK THROTTLE POSITION SENSOR Refer to «COMPONENT INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S34804148382004120900000). OK or NG OK: GO TO 11. NG: GO TO 6.
  6. REPLACE ELECTRIC THROTTLE CONTROL ACTUATOR Replace the electric throttle control actuator. Perform «THROTTLE VALVE CLOSED POSITION LEARNING»(ref-169712-S39661707712004121500000) in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - TITAN article. Perform «IDLE AIR VOLUME LEARNING»(ref-169712-S09460714722004121500000) in BASIC DIAGNOSTIC PROCEDURES - TITAN article. INSPECTION END
  7. CHECK APP SENSOR GROUND CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT Turn ignition switch OFF. Disconnect ECM harness connector. Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 82 and APP sensor terminal 1, ECM terminal 83 and APP sensor terminal 3. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S25318957112004120900000). Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 8. NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  8. CHECK APP SENSOR INPUT SIGNAL CIRCUIT FOR OPEN AND SHORT Check harness continuity between ECM terminal 106 and APP sensor terminal 2, ECM terminal 98 and APP sensor terminal 5. Refer to «WIRING DIAGRAM»(ref-169472-S25318957112004120900000). Continuity should exist. Also check harness for short to ground and short to power. OK or NG OK: GO TO 9. NG: Repair open circuit or short to ground or short to power in harness or connectors.
  9. CHECK ACCELERATOR PEDAL POSITION SENSOR Refer to «COMPONENT INSPECTION»(ref-169472-S11154767412004120900000). OK or NG OK: GO TO 11. NG: GO TO 10.
  10. REPLACE ACCELERATOR PEDAL ASSEMBLY Replace the accelerator pedal assembly.
