Removal

CAUTIONPerform when the engine is cold.

  1. Drain engine coolant from the radiator.
  2. Remove air cleaner and air duct assembly. Refer to «AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT»(ref-163594-S35309392942004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article.
  3. Disconnect A/T fluid cooler hoses. Install blind plug to avoid leakage of A/T fluid.
  4. Disconnect radiator upper and lower hoses from radiator.
  5. Remove the lower radiator shroud. Release the tabs, pull lower radiator shroud rearwards and down to remove. Remove the upper radiator shroud. Remove the A/C condenser bolts and brackets. Remove A/T oil cooler bolts and oil cooler and position aside. Lift up and remove the radiator.
CAUTIONDo not damage or scratch air conditioner condenser and radiator core when removing.

Installation

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Remove air duct. Refer to «AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT»(ref-163594-S35309392942004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article.
  2. Remove the engine front undercover.
  3. Remove the radiator shroud (lower). Refer to «RADIATOR»(ref-169421-S19750326362004120800000) .
  4. Remove drive belts. Refer to «DRIVE BELTS»(ref-163594-S37532166452004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L.
  5. Remove cooling fan.

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

  1. Install cooling fan with its front mark "F" facing front of engine. see scheme 16

Scheme 12: REMOVAL AND INSTALLATION
CAUTIONWhen removing water pump, be careful not to get engine coolant on drive belt. Water pump can not be disassembled and should be replaced as a unit.
  1. Drain engine coolant so that no engine coolant comes out from water pump fitting hole. CAUTION: Perform when the engine is cold.
  2. Remove following parts. Engine front undercover using power tool. Air duct (inlet); Refer to «AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT»(ref-163594-S35309392942004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article.. Drive belt; Refer to «DRIVE BELTS»(ref-163594-S37532166452004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article.. CAUTION: Leave auto tensioner pulley in its fixed position when removing drive belt.
  3. Remove water pump pulley.
  4. Remove water pump. Engine coolant will leak from the cylinder block, so have a receptacle ready below. CAUTION: Handle water pump vane so that it does not contact any other parts.

Scheme 13: Inspection After Removal
  1. Visually check that there is no significant dirt or rusting on the water pump body and vane.
  2. Make sure there is no looseness in the vane shaft, and that it turns smoothly when rotated by hand.
  3. If there are any unusual concerns, replace the water pump assembly.

Installation is in the reverse order of removal.

Removal Of Thermostat

  1. Drain engine coolant from the radiator. CAUTION: Perform when engine is cold.
  2. Remove air duct (inlet). Refer to «AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT»(ref-163594-S35309392942004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article..
  3. Remove engine room cover. Refer to «ENGINE ROOM COVER»(ref-163594-S12273651962004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article..
  4. Disconnect water suction hose from water inlet.
  5. Remove water inlet and thermostat.

Removal Of Thermostat Housing, Water Outlet And Heater Pipe

  1. Remove Intake manifold. Refer to «INTAKE MANIFOLD»(ref-163594-S08315826862004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article..
  2. Remove thermostat housing, water outlet and heater pipe.

Removal Of Water Cut Valve

  1. Drain engine coolant from the radiator. CAUTION: Perform when the engine is cold.
  2. Remove air duct (inlet). Refer to «AIR CLEANER AND AIR DUCT»(ref-163594-S35309392942004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article..
  3. Remove engine room cover. Refer to «ENGINE ROOM COVER»(ref-163594-S12273651962004120700000) in ENGINE MECHANICAL - TITAN - 5.6L article..
  4. Disconnect heater hose (heater core side).
  5. Remove heater hose bracket.
  6. Remove vacuum tank.
  7. Remove water connector and water cut valve.

  1. Place a thread so that it is caught in the valves of the thermostat and water control valve. Immerse fully in a container filled with water. Heat while stirring (the example in the figure shows thermostat).
  2. The valve opening temperature is the temperature at which the valve opens and falls from the thread.
  3. Continue heating. Check the full-open lift amount. NOTE: The full-open lift amount standard temperature for the water control valve is the reference value.
  4. After checking the full-open lift amount, lower the water temperature and check the valve closing temperature.

Scheme 16: Installation Of Thermostat
  1. Install the thermostat with the whole circumference of each flange part fit securely inside the rubber ring. (The example in the figure shows the thermostat.)
  2. Install the thermostat with the jiggle valve facing upwards.

Installation Of Water Outlet Pipe And Heater Pipe

First apply a neutral detergent to the O-rings, then quickly insert the insertion parts of the water outlet pipe and heater pipe into the installation holes.
